After some research, I've come up with these three fun facts:

Did you know that the word "Steem" was created first before its analogy to the word "steam" was realized?

In deriving the name for a new currency, @ned and his team listed some names that signified influence, one of which is "steem". From this long list, they chose the word "steem" for the impression that it makes, similar to saying "steamed authors". Later did they find out that "steem" relates to "steam" on its purpose of fueling economy and how it is reflected in making power (steam engines produce power). They also found out that the reason why they were able to make "steamed authors" as basis is because the word "steam trains" actually influenced a lot of English idioms i.e.:

  • This conversation is picking up steam.
  • This conversation is getting off track.

Did you know that @dan, @ned, and their team of developers started little, working on a basement?

Yes, the huge Steemit community today started with a group of dreamers working on a place shown at 3:02 of the reference below. That is the basement of blocktrade.

On his keynote speech at SteemFest, @ned said that when they initiated in developing the Steemit blockchain, they had no capital. Luckily, they knew @dan and Donna from Blocktrade who offered them a place. @ned reminisced about the basement jokingly telling the listeners that it was hand-dug. After 4 months of developing the Steemit blockchain, they finally found an office.

Reference for answers 1 and 2

Did you know that @ned, the CEO of Steemit has the same name with a Hollywood photogapher?

Yes, he has! :) haha. Anyone can easily search it on google, or click here, though that Hollywood photographer is already dead. XD Nonetheless, it's still fun to know.

Here is my entry, with some cool statistical facts:

Did you know that there are more than 1,500,000 posts/comments made on Steemit?

Did you know that the estimated average account value is $721? It is probably very high because of some accounts with over $1mill estimated value.

Did you know that the average Steem Power per account is almost 4,000?

All sources used are from Steemwhales.com.

  1. Steemit has extra many tools http://steemtools.com
  2. https://steemstats.com is the best way to see your rewards from a post
  3. We can participate in many contests. I liked Open Mic but we have here steemsports, steembet,

Steemit provides an endless opportunity to write about whatever you want and you are not pigeon-holed into one area of expertise. This week I've written about making pancakes, my super high toilet and one of the World's largest and only hybrid greenhouse that is growing medical cannabis. That's diversity!
I also communicated with people who live in 3 different countries who I would have likely never shared information with before if it wasn't for Steemit and Steemit has allowed me to write over 60 blog posts in 3.5 months that I never would have done without the encouragement. It is life changing! :)

Your work is awesome RR!!! I have been dying for pancakes for months now for some reason and your toilet post was life changing lol.

It's true, I think this platform has encouraged a lot of people to TRY writing for the first time in their lives, it has really changed the dynamic for online blogging and social media.

Great post as always.

Thanks @barrydutton! Hahaha my toilet post changed my life too! It still brings a smile to my face when I think about how it all unfolded.

Unfolded, like the toilet paper lol, --I saw what you did there

Yes exactly! :D
