Introducing Identity/Content Verification Reporting & Lookup

Last year we posted Identity & Content Verification Guide: When to Ask and When Not To. Keeping up with who has and hasn't verified is a huge undertaking. It is just as daunting for contributors to be proactive in making the community aware that the content they post does indeed belong to them.

@patrice has been working on a solution to this and other problems @steemcleaners has faced in identifying & tracking abuse as the platform has grown.

Identity & Content Verification

Today we want to introduce the first tool on steemcleaners.org that will be available to the community to report and lookup 'Identity & Content Verification'.

There are no fancy badges... Sorry folks. If you are someone who has an online identity or content @patrice can provide you with the information on how to get the HTML link to your entry on the site. You can use it however you like. You can even create your own badge!

The concept is simple.

Anyone can fill out the Verification Form with the Steemit users name, a link to the post where the verification information is posted, a link to any external site such as twitter that the user provided to prove their identity or content ownership, and they can include any additional information. A member of @steemcleaners will review the entries.

The field 'Steemit User Name' is unique. If something needs to be changed you will have to contact a member of @steemcleaners.

Fields:

  • 'Steemit User Name' - Please do not include the @ symbol.
  • 'Link To Steemit Post/Comment Verification' - A link to the steemit.com post where a user has posted their verification information.
  • 'Website or Social Media Link' - A link to any external website that proves their online identity or content ownership.
  • 'Additional Information' - Please provide any additional information or links you think are relevant. If a user has more than one website or social media account they may list the links to those websites here.
  • 'Status' - This field indicates whether or not an entry has been reviewed by a member of @steemcleaners.

Anyone can see if a user has been submitted using the Verification Lookup table and the status of the submission.

We want express to the community that this is not an ironclad 100% guarantee method to ensure that the user reported is who they say they are or that the user owns the content they are posting. This is meant to provide information to the community that they can use to make their own decisions on who to upvote and support.

Who Should Use Identity & Content Verification

If you haven't already, read our Identity & Content Verification Guide: When to Ask and When Not To.

This tool is not designed for reporting the average Steemian. You'll notice that there is no field for community members to upload images. That field is for special cases where individuals need an alternative method for verifying such as a temporary Facebook or Twitter post. Some users don't want to share their content outside of steemit.com.

Website Development

We want to thank everyone who has taken the time to use the new Google form to report abuse! This has been a great success in reducing the amount of time we spend researching, logging & commenting.

The form is just a stepping stone. In the next week or two we will be migrating to a form on the same website for reporting abuse. This will further increase our efficiency and the time it takes to log and track abuse within the community.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions you can contact @patrice on steemit.chat or Discord.

Thanks for sharing and what a great initiative only equal to the power of its idea. I am positive about the power we have to create change that will bring about more integrity to the entire platform and thus a higher value for us all here on Steemit.

As you know, I have been contributing to your posts for a long time now and am glad to see such process seeing the light of day. I can't thank you enough for all of what you are doing.

Namaste :)

I am in Steemit hell because of all these additional layers of red tape. Among other things, your links for resolving the heinous accusations made against me of plagiarism are filled with ultra frustrating and time-wasting results like this one
Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from steemcleaners.org (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID Not a link I am likely to use. Look: I have posted comments here https://steemit.com/quotes/@udbarflower/quote-of-the-day-on-the-power-of-reverence and here https://steemit.com/spiritual/@udbarflower/thought-of-the-day as well as having sent emails to Steemit's customer support - all with no response and no resolution. I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO PURSUE ALL OF THIS LUDICROUS RED TAPE, and if you read my responses per above provided links, you will see why this is ludicrous and wasteful. If this does not get resolved after this post by virtue of your contacting me - and you can do so at my email, [email protected], then this is the last post I will be making here and will move on to continue on Medium and other platforms that treat their writers and members with more respect and actually have communications with them. I don't have time to both write and pursue this time-wasting bullshit. And I happen to know there are a good number of others jumping ship since recent calamitous and ill-conceived changes have taken place, reflected by exactly these kinds of actions on your part. Will Steemit respond in a non-egoic,professional way to resolve this or ? We will see...

In the same hell as you, I am out

Hmm yep, this is the base, content should be original :)

I think that's a positive step towards solving the difficult problem of platform abuse, being heavy handed like FB/Google/Twitter you often throw the baby out with the bathwater.
🍎 Let the users decide - I like it!

Thanks for sharing this post

Depending on whom you ask, success means different things. If you were to ask me, I'd say it means having a career that revolves around my real life. If you were to ask my cat, she'd say it involves finding a way to catch, immobilize and destroy her own tail. The first step in achieving success is often deciding what it means to you.

Chances are your answer is similar to mine. But whatever your version of success, people who want to be successful should mimic the behaviors of the great ones who came before them. These behaviors include:

Follow your talents. It's helpful to be passionate about your pursuits, but passion without talent is like a car without a full tank of gas -- it won't get you as far as you want to go. The book The Element discusses this: no matter what you are good at -- whether it's writing, drawing, computer coding or motivational speaking -- focus on that area and keep pursuing it. Everyone has a gift, so find yours and put in the time to make yourself better at it.

@hivewatcher is still sending new users here. Need an up to date post with working links and no mention of St--mit :)

Hi,
Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
I hope that the new, updated guide that we published has solved this.

No problem and thanks for updating. I just want genuine new users to have a good experience and feel welcome. Obviously there will be abusers, but I would assume innocence or ignorance until there is proof of maliciousness. I know you get flack from various people, but most cases I have seen were justified. It needs to be easy for the innocent to get off the 'naughty list'.

Cheers
