Why It Doesnt Make Sense To Upvote...

in #steemit7 years ago

Anyone but yourself.

Ive noticed after the HardFork steemians are getting stingy with their upvotes. Upvotes are worth more now, and why not reap the rewards? You worked hard for it right? People are just sitting back and upvoting their own comments and blog posts and not worrying about the future of this platform.

Should people just buy steem and powerup to invest in themselves?

Upvoting is a sign of respect. You use it because you found the comment or blog to be useful. What happens if you dont receive it in return? You see people earning tons of upvotes while everyone including yourself upvoting is getting less than 10 upvotes on all their content. Why not upvote yourself and make some cash?

There is definitely a flaw for sure that needs to be fixed ASAP. You should not be allowed to upvote yourself and recieve your rewards. This will create people to surf the platform for good content.

The consensus is people are lazy they are in it for the money and want it fast. They upvote themselves and call it a day. I know because Im guilty. If i werent able to upvote myself, I would waste my power on people who I thought genuinely took their time and effort to put together useful material for me to read and gain knowledge.

@jerrybanfield said it best. There is a flaw in the system and why not take advantage of it? And it seems like people are catching on and not out their surfing the platform searching for quality content to curate.

Steemit is looking like a desert and being able to upvote yourself should be banned yesterday.

Surely they will fix that at some point?!? You're right, it will kill the platform. People making a penny will give up I would imagine. Then it will just be a bunch of whales swimming around in all their money

Exactly. theyll be a few active users and everyone else will leave because theyre frustrated. Tehyre content isnt being noticed.

Not only do people not upvote but the value of STEEM fluctuates so much that I have half the amount I originally got, although I know it's eventually gonna recover. I was really excited about this platform when I came here and then I found myself needing to copy shitty news articles and do giveaways to make at least a cent per day. They really need to make it so people can't like their own crap.

there should also be recommendations, right now it's pretty hard to get followers without getting a few viral posts, and nobody goes to the New category

Its flawed and I know it is because it makes sense... Im doing it. Im paying myself each post I do and Im paying myself as much as I can. Why? because nobody else is paying me

I've noticed the whales using their slider so they can upvote more comments. Most of the whales realize that the only way Steemit works in the long run is to curate. Don't forget that these whales are sitting on hundreds of thousands in Steem Power. The only way that pays off is to expand Steemit by curating. When they curate, it gets minnows excited. Minnows tell others who become minnows and that increases the value of the blockchain and THAT makes the whales money...way more potential of larger payouts than upvoting themselves all day long.

I have noticed whales and dolphins simply splitting up their upvotes into smaller increments so they can use the upvote more often. This is just what I have noticed. YMMV.

My humble advice is to find something you love and create content around it. Do the daily grind and produce. This is what will get people to upvote you. And curate minnows...reward the minnows who comment and like your content. Those minnows will be dolphins one day.

Ive definitely seen them rewarding followers by upvoting their comment, but what about their blog posts? Theres no motivation to post because youre better off commenting. And youll get an upvote if youre lucky here and there. Why even have the opportunity to upvote yourself? Why does that even exist. It would make users much more active on the site for sure.

I agree and disagree with this post, which is ok. Alot of whales do give a couple votes to minnows but yes they can be a little less generous with their upvote power than they should be. is it greed maybe? Is it cause they are so overwhelmed by so many people asking for upvotes maybe? Or is it the platform? Ehhh. But if you find the right whales that care about the platform like @klye and they like your content and are commenting on your content then you will grow to be a whale someday.

Good call mate. I agree!! Just tell me more about it. :)

You're very right, this platform is not just about making cash for oneself, it's about appreciating others post and article that has benefit us. Upvoting for other whom have contributed to this community. I'll give you a upvote for this message and will be following. Upvoting to others a way of saying thank you.

That's great. but we need to expect the greediest and worst behavior of the users and built incentives up on that.

Why do you think it is that people aren't upvoting now?

Because they want to have their Voting power percentage higher in order to pay themselves more. That's not how this platform should work. Everytime someone upvotes theyre essentially losing money to give themselves. So why not be greedy? And newcomers are here struggling and they will leave because everyone is paying themselves.

Ok, I hear you.

Another idea would be to have split voting power. You have voting power for yourself and voting power for other people.

That way, you wouldn't have to worry about your votes for others hurting your own earnings.

Why should you even be able to pay yourself? Its so ridiculous... Think about it. Who pays themselves in the real world? If you had the option to give yourself $10 a day would you? or if you didnt have to upvote anyone you can give yourself $15 a day. Which would you choose?

I agree with you that the $10/$15 problem you mentioned needs to be fixed.

However, I think the idea of paying yourself has a value for the currency.

It is the incentive to keep your money in Steemit. If you didn't have that, people would just immediately pull out their earnings. There would be less reason to keep it in Steemit. As it stands though, there is an incentive for people to keep their money in this currency.

I actually think being able to upvote yourself is a great idea. Sometimes people create content and it doesn't get the attention or upvotes that they feel it should just because of the sheer volume of Steemit postings and they are able to pay themselves for the work they did. I don't think anyone should work at the total disposal of other people's control. There will always be people that take advantage of any and everything. That is no reason to ban everyone from features that they are not abusing.

This for sure is being abused. I can guarantee it. Everytime you upvote someone else your vote is worth less and less. Wouldnt you only upvote yourself? Tell me why it makes sense for me to upvote someone else?

No one can tell someone else what makes sense to them, but everyone is obviously not just upvoting themselves. If that is what you decide you want to do, this is an open platform and you are free to do that. I enjoy upvoting content that interest me and I will continue to do that.

thats what this site should be all about. Rewarding those that deserve it. Not rewarding yourself because you deserve it. How many more upvotes would be going around if people were dumping $20 upvotes on their own posts. How many more people would be happy creating more content? The number of active users is steadily declining and I believe its because of this flawed system

I don't agree, sorry. If people want to cheat the system they will find a way. People who feel they should be paid, should be paid. They studied this platform before it was built and plenty of thought went into why it was designed this way. Do you think that if people could not vote for themselves -- and wanted money from Steemit, they wouldn't just create another account and pay themselves that way? This way, people can do whatever they want to do. And I prefer it that way.

Agreed!

Please resteem and lets get heard! Im tired of this crap already

People are stingy! They only want! Don't like to give!

Agreed! Not being able to upvote yourself will fix this. Please resteem!

I was thinking this today. If someone can upvote themselves and make 10 bucks they are winning! this should be fixed!

Very interesting blog, thanks.
Just followed you and would be great to be in touch on steemit

I agree, it has not point to upvote himself

Where can we find the whales and dolphins to "promote" our content? I feel like a spammer so far, for asking to take a look.
