Steem Monsters VS other crypto games.

in #steemmonsters7 years ago (edited)

Crypto games are really coming into their own these days.

Right now I'm aware of four trading card games on the blockchain.

That's right.

FOUR trading card games.

Giphy

Steem Monsters, which is on our very own Steem blockchain and is rated third on state of the dapps. Everyone seems to love it, and so do I. It's doing quite well.

Darkwinds, which I've just discovered. To be honest it looks kind of terrible. I don't know much about it but it uses ETH and everything about it seems a little bit.... crappy. Sorry Darkwinds, you're a no go for me.

Zombie Battleground. This looks like a cartoonish zombie based trading card game that runs on the ETH blockchain and it actually looks pretty fun. However, looking through all the cards I have to say if you thought Steem Monsters was expensive wait till you have to pay $124 for some non legendary cards.

God's Unchained. This is the one to look for. This game is actually being backed by Coinbase, which is huge.... and it looks just fantastic. It's not actually playable yet but apparently if you buy a few packs and then go to their Discord you can get involved with the beta. Then you'll be able to play it. I'm sure some of the cards are expensive here too, but I think these are going to have real value because this game simply looks amazing and like I said earlier it's backed by Coinbase.

You can see that only one of these runs on Steem. The other ones all run on the Ethereum network. In order to play an Ethereum based game you have to install Metamask on Chrome. These ETH games that use Metamask all do a bunch of transactions using the Ether network and those transactions cost gas. It can be expensive and it can be time consuming.

However, everybody knows about Ethereum and it's a lot more popular than Steem right now.

I personally think there's a lot of money to be made by purchasing some God's Unchained cards. I'm not necessarily saying that you should do it, but I am saying that you can buy a pack of cards for 0.012 ether which is $1.48 right now.

It might not be a bad idea to buy a few, then again it might be a bad idea....so I'm not actually telling you to do anything.

The question is how these games actually fare against Steem Monsters.

Well I've never seen another card game exactly like a Steem Monsters. I like the simplicity of it all. I think there's a lot of good to be said for Steem Monsters. However, I think of all the listed games God's Unchained is going to be a serious competitor that we need to be careful of.

I only hope that the developers of Steem Monsters are also watching the development of God's Unchained so that we can stay ahead of the curve.

The crypto world can certainly support more than one trading game but I've been kind of concerned by the fact that I'm seeing a lot of people leaving Steem Monsters lately and I've seen a lot of cards selling for lower than they ought to.

Thanks for reading.

I will still prefer steemmonster to all of them as for me.

It's definitely a fun game.

Yes. I have watched many videos about that game. But i guess it needs a lot of investment in cards which i did not have now to join

At this stage I stopped to play SteemMonsters because the game is repetitive and boring. Those card game are too concentate on the speculative side of the price cards!

I do agree that something new needs to be added.

I thought the Etherium network was too slow and expensive for apps that require realtime interaction. The timing requirements for a turn based game are pretty loose, but you still need reasonably good response times to keep people interested in playing.

Waiting around for your next turn is what kills a game.

It's slow and expensive.... no doubt about that. However, Ethereum has a much bigger fan base than Steem right now. I know a bunch of games are going to continue to come out on it. I also really believe God's Unchained is going to be humongous given the backing by so many big corporations like Coinbase.

I will check it out.
