Memorial Pavilion for the 40th Anniversary of King

in #steempress5 years ago

Strangely enough, many Koreans did not recognize the existence of this pavilion, this pavilion stood in the center of Seoul metropolitan.

Among surrounded contemporary buildings, this traditional style of building is standing. There are so many people passing by, but it seemed that they did not understand the meaning of this pavilion.

This pavilion was built at 1902 AD for the memory of 40 years anniversary of being a King of Chosun dynasty. At that time when this pavilion had been made, the fate of dynasty looked like candlelight in front of a dread storm. Maybe, the king Kojong seemed to try to overcome the threats in front of him and dynasty. But Chosun was weak, so they didn't have any possibility to maintain their independence amongst the fierce imperialism of the world.

In my guess, people passing by this pavilion seemed not to remember that shameful history, regardless of what was intentional or not

Let me introduce you the whole view of the pavilion and the stone structure. Below is the whole view.

O

Below is the stone entrance.

There were animals by the side of the entrance. The mason seemed to describe the animal bravely, but it looked not serious. The face of the animal reminded me of the tragic destiny of the Kingdom.

사진으로 보니 광화문 이순신 동상도 보이고, 건물은 교보 빌딩 같은데...
고종 40년을 기념하기 위한 기념비가 이런 곳에 있는 줄은 정말 몰랐네요..

You are welcome @slowwalker

Beautiful building; sad if it's history is so shameful. There is a similar building down the street form me in Los Angeles and I have not thought on its history much; perhaps I should be more aware.

Shameful past is also our history in my guess

That is magnificent pavilion, it seems the roof is much wider but maybe it is because of the shot from bellow. The structure of rood made of hundreds of single wood pieces makes it so complex. The gate with stone animals is impressive. Also I noticed that symbol on the gate, is that symbol on gate is it of Thai-chi or does it mean something else?

Thank you so much for your interest

history. nice works. as you said, the animal is weird.

Wow this is so cool! I've always wanted to visit South Korea. I wish I had the money to travel but I suppose just looking at other people's travel photos is good enough for now. Keep up the good work. ;-)

I will gather all my post on my homepage, then you can look around Korea at your place.

Hey there Mr Walker! So many interesting and historic places like this all over South Korea, and I love stopping by for a trip down memory lane, as you may recall I lived in Seoul for about four years.

Suddenly I have a new Korean connection. My good friend I was traveling with in Thailand and then Bali just a few months ago, met a lovely Korean girl in Bali and they totally hit it off! He ended up going back to Korea with her!

He had to do some traveling in Europe for business and to meet family, and now he has returned to Seoul to be with his girlfriend! Koreans are smart, hardworking, fun, and attractive people; just ask my friend, he knows ;)

From visiting family in my hometown of up-state New York!
