Hurricane Irma just did something to the NFL that has never happened before. It gave a first week buy to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins. Although the hurricane is still days away from making landfall in Florida, it appears to be headed directly towards Miami.

Irma is already a Category 5 Hurricane. That is the strongest category that we have ever seen. It's winds are hitting as high as 185 miles per hour and has Florida in its sights. Over the last 2 weeks, we have seen just how devastating the power of a hurricane can be in the United States. The damage of Hurricane Henry not only caused over $150 Billion in damages, but took the lives of over 60 people.

The NFL absolutely made the right move here. The sooner that people can evacuate south Florida, the better. Trying to squeeze in a game would have sent the wrong message to the citizenry of the state. If we can learn one thing from Henry, it's that it is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry when dealing with these catastrophic weather events.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins will play their rescheduled game in week 11 when both teams had a BYE. This will mean that new Dolphins quarterback, Jay Cutler, will have an extra week to work on the new offense and the Dolphins will have 5 extra days to prepare for their road trip against the Chargers. The Buccaneers will have 5 extra days to prepare for their home opener against the Bears.
Irma is also wreaking havoc on fantasy football owners. Jameis Winston and Jay Cutler are on fantasy rosters in almost every league. And the wide receivers and running backs from each team are on 100% of fantasy rosters. Having a strong bench will be more important than ever this week if you have multiple players from this game.
Please everyone stay safe and make sure to listen to your local government about your evacuation needs.

Irma is no joke, and it's good to see the NFL taking precautions.

Just for future reference, when a team doesn't play, it's called a "bye," not a "buy.

Also, the hurricane that hit last week was "Harvey," not "Henry."

Too bad the NFL decided to wait so long to make a decision on this. They could have relocated the game to Atlanta easily since the Falcons are away this week. They could've sold the tickets cheap and used the proceeds to help victims of Hurricane Irma. Great way for the NFL to help out, like JJ Watt has been for Houston. The NFL needs all the good PR it can get right now. But instead, the Bucs and Dolphins have to play 16 games straight, more if either of them makes a wildcard playoff slot. What a shame....

I was thinking the same thing! It's crazy that the Dolphins and Texans might have to play in other stadiums for a while, depending on the damage.

@steemsports
It's crazy that Dolphins and Taxis have to play during the second stadium in awhile, depending on the damage. In addition, the storm of the past week did not have "Harvie," "Henry".

This should not be taken lightly!..sports or no sports,human lives are the most important factor here!..if those in charge really care about the citizens NOW is the best time to evacuate!..are they going to see danger coming head-on and hope for the best ??..These WARNING signs couldn't be clearer !

I hope Irma doesn't tear up Florida. I wonder where the Dolphins would relocate if they need to? Is the dome in Atlanta still running?

Great post and thank you for updating. Can't image living there. Hope it's not going to be that bad.

posting a very cool friend
Thankyou for sharing @steemsports

a little late, but well, at least it was done, you have to try to raise awareness of the population that during Sunday and Monday are safe that the storm is expected to be stronger at that time, I share a post that if you can share where he comments the forecast of how Irma is going to advance, luck and greetings to all.
