Uptober, Optimus, Monsoons, & Moonbeams

in #story29 days ago (edited)

It’s been a busy week in my corner of the world—but a productive and good kind of busy. Thanks to everyone who's shown their support for the latest installment of my new fan-fiction series “becoming”.

I was considering publishing this in book format at some point but there are all sorts of messy legalities involved that I don’t think I want to be bothered with. So, for now, “becoming” will live, exclusively, right here on the Hive blockchain.

Uptober

It's been an exciting week for Bitcoin in the news but, still, there hasn't been much price action compared to past market cycles. It certainly seems that Wall Street has a firm grasp on price-manipulation and is doing their best to suppress the price at this point.

Historically, Uptober (October) has been the best month for gains so if we see any major moves up it will probably happen in the coming weeks or else we could be waiting for another few years. Some are hinting at the fact regular market cycles might be a thing of the past for Bitcoin but I'm not fully convinced.

If the price doesn't go higher from here this will officially go down as the strangest bull market there's ever been.

Tesla Shareholder Meeting

Tesla.jpeg

The Tesla Shareholder Meeting is taking place in Austin, TX on November 6th and my brother and I might have the good fortune of being there! Tesla will be drawing names for tickets soon. This won’t be one to miss as Elon has hinted at a “very special” demonstration of the Optimus robot. It sure would be something special to see in person.

In light of Ashish Kumar's, head of AI for Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot project, announcement of his departure from Tesla for a position at Meta my guess is the majority of the important work on Optimus is now completed and it’s just down to the fine-tuning before the robots roll out to businesses and the public next year.

Home Renovation

The major phases of the home renovation are now underway and will be continuing up until the week before the Thanksgiving holiday. The tiling in our lower level is complete and the carpet installers will be here next week to finish up.

After the carpet is installed we’ll be living downstairs for a few weeks while the crews come in to install hardwood floors on the main level of the house.

Whether you call it topsy-turvy or upside-down, that’s what life feels like right now but it will all be well worth it when the project is done in November. Maintaining some kind of normalcy will be the goal. Let’s hope we can accomplish that.

Monsoon

Rain.jpg

I’ve never experienced a summer quite like this one in my thirty years of living in Minnesota. We’ve been having a downpour nearly every afternoon, even if there’s no rain in the forecast in the morning. The rain is torrential, coming down in inches at a time. It reminds me of the daily afternoon rains in the tropics and it’s very weird to experience so regularly in this part of the world.

All I can say is if this continues through the winter we’re in big trouble because one inch of rain equals four inches of snow. I suppose we should brace ourselves for what’s to come and be thankful that both of our vehicles have all-wheel drive.

Moonbeams

Moonbeams.jpeg

My Mom's friend and neighbor of almost a decade, Pat, is leaving their retirement community to move in with her daughter in Tennessee. After the worst of the panic was behind us, in 2021, my Mom started sitting outside in the evenings with a few of her friends to socialize.

Over the years this has become a ritual. The ladies, including my Aunt Betty eventually, named their social group, "The Moonbeams" and even though they gather in the full light of the afternoon now the name has stuck. The social circle meets almost every day during the summer to keep up on the goings on in the retirement community, laugh, and help solve the world's problems. I've been trying to convince them to bring the group inside during the winter months when social isolation can have its greatest impact. Hopefully they'll decide to do that.

We worked together to have Grok design a logo for the group and had it put on a T-shirt as a going away present for Pat. Eventually we'll get one made for each of them. I, personally, think they should all pick up and instrument and start a band—The Moonbeams has a nice ring to it after all. Best of luck with your next chapter of life, Pat!

All for now. Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend!

The Moonbeams.. that's so sweet. The tshirt looks very cool.

Empathy for the home Reno. Let's hope we are both kinda done by November

Thanks! We got it made through a company called CafePress.

We appreciate it and same to you! It certainly does turn your life upside down. Today we get the lower level carpet installed then we have to basically move everything down there and live on the lower level until the hardwood floors are installed in mid-October.

That last part of the post made me smile. I think our parents and all people over a certain age deserve and need to be in a group where they can laugh, feel useful, and have company, especially during those times when they may feel lonely. I can imagine how excited you are about the Tesla shareholders' meeting. I hope they get selected and I hope the repairs are minor and get done quickly. Have a great weekend, my friend. Hugs.🫂

She really enjoys socializing with the group. It sounds almost as if they've become teenagers again when they all get together. Thank you! It's a long shot to get chosen for tickets but it would be fun to go! I'll be so happy when all these renovations are done. It seems like that's all we've had time to think about since we've moved in. I hope you've enjoyed your weekend too!

I think we will see much higher prices for btc and ETH as well as other altcoins during this bull cycle. Fed just started cutting rates and it takes some time for them to get to lower rates and for the impact of rates to cycle through the economy. I would guess that the top will come in the next 3 to 6 months.

I'm hoping for that! It'll be a great finish to a very weird cycle.

The rain sounds like our torrential summer rains! It can be overwhelming, another sign that climate change is happening at a rapid pace.
But on the bright side, your garden will soon be lush!
That launch sounds super exciting, as do the renovations at home!

They've been very similar to what I've experienced in Florida and the Caribbean! It's been as green as Ireland here this summer because of all the rain. The leaves are starting to fall though so, soon, everything will be brown and white. I'll have "after" photos of the home projects very soon. : ) It's always great to hear from you Lizelle.

I forget that the extreme cold will soon be changing the colours of the landscape by you.
Looking forward to seeing the renovations, sure you can't wait!
You'll need to have a celebration, Eric🥂🎊

Yes, it's strange to think our seasons are opposite. Thanks, Lizelle, it's getting exciting now that we're out of the planning stages. I spent a lot of the weekend moving furniture out of the lower level and disassembling a closet organizer to get ready for the carpet installation this Wednesday. After that I have to move everything back and then the hardwood floor installation begins on the main level. A celebration will definitely be in order after we get through this.

We got some torrential rain the other day too. Thankfully it hasn't been daily here. I hope this bull market doesn't fizzle. I was hoping to correct some errors I made last cycle.

I wish Ohio would get some of the rain! My Mom said they're in a drought. This has been a very difficult cycle to predict but I'm still hoping for a strong finish. I think a whole lot of crypto influencers will be searching for something else to do after all of these bad predictions.

Yeah, I thought they got it for a while there, but last time we were down it seemed very dry. It sounds like there might be some more big news for cryptos in the coming weeks, so who knows.

They finally got a little rain last night. Yes, I'm hearing of a big announcement coming tomorrow from the US Govt. It's either they're finally coming around to the idea a national BTC reserve would be wise or it's the digital dollar. We'll see tomorrow!

I just hope it turns things around here!

The moonbeams is a great name for a novel, too - people get abducted by 400,000 KM tractor beams, into the core of the moon, where... something dwells. (Its just a retirement community having astonishingly deep philosophical discussions and tea) - but is it a intellectual utopia, or are the moonbeams harbouring something more sinister?

... Did I just write a synopsis for a book that I don't have the time to write (or read)? I think so...

Haha, you definitely have the imagination of a writer!

That monsoon sounds like quite something! I hope, for your sake, it doesn't continue, though I'd like to experience one someday tbh :)

It's a little like standing under a waterfall. We were driving in it yesterday and almost had to pull off the road a few times because the windshield wipers were nearly useless.

Was it scary?

Not too bad. I was more afraid of the other drivers than I was the rain. 😊
