How to start a woodcut - Cómo empezar una xilografia
First we choose a wood, either pine or mahogany, except those with veneer. From there we take linseed oil and pass it through the whole wood and the next day we sand it. I have already prepared this matrix and started to draw on it.
Primero escogemos una madera sea de pino o caoba menos las que son de enchapado. De ahí agarramos aceite de linaza y lo pasamos por la madera entera y al día siguiente lo lijamos. Esta matriz ya la prepare y la empecé lo que hago es dibujar encima de ella
The gouges are our main tool before starting we must sharpen them. For that you need linseed oil
Las gubias son nuestra herramienta principal antes de empezar debemos afilarlas. Para eso se necesita aceite de linaza
And then with a water sandpaper we put a gothic and scrape delicately to get the right edge
Y después con una lija de agua ponemos una gótica y raspamos delicadamente para obtener el filo adecuado
Now with the gouge that looks like a knife and we pass it around to define where I will draw wood
Ahora con la gubia que parece un cuchillo y lo pasamos alrededor para definir donde sacaré madera
From there I take a spatula to lift the wood.
De ahí agarro una Cómo espátula para alzar la madera
With this ready we pass it with sandpaper to remove the rough part and then I shape it with a curved gouge
Con esto listo le pasamos con una lija para quitar la parte aspera y después le doy forma con una gubia curva

Este es mi resultado y como va quedando
