It's time to resume my Postcard Experiment on Hive

in #teamuklast year

Three years ago in the other world, I started a Postcard Experiment. This is an initiative to extend online friendships offline and to showcase the beauty of my adopted country - Taiwan.

My Postcard and subsequent Christmas card experiment ran for about five months till I left Taiwan in February 2020. Here's a summary of the experiment, extracted from one of my previous post

The initial idea was to take advantage of Taiwan's very cheap postage service and spread some love and friendship around the world. During the experiment I met many new friends, many of whom have now become good online friends. Some, I have also had the pleasure of meeting in real life. Some participants were very sweet and offered to send a postcard/Christmas card back to me. That was unexpected and much appreciated 😍

Three years on, I'm back in Taiwan again, and I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to resume my Postcard Experiment. During this three years, we've moved to a new world, a much better world than before. Many people have joined since and it would be lovely to see some newbies join my experiment. Of course, I'd love to reconnect with those who took part last time. And, if you don't fall into either of these groups, you're also welcome!!

Taking part is easy. Just drop me a message on Discord with your name (real or Hive handle) and address and I will send you a postcard from Taiwan. It will not cost you anything. I will only use your address to send you a postcard and will delete it afterwards. DON'T drop your address here!!!

My Discord ID is livinguktaiwan#6787. You can find me on many Discord servers such as Pinmapple, OCD, The Terminal, Ladies of Hive, PeakD, ecency, Aliento. This experiment is all about trust and respect so please don't spam me with your post asking for upvotes or follows 🙃. Other than that, I'm more than happy to hear from you. This experiment will run till early March before I leave Taiwan.

If you want to find more more information about my Postcard Experiment from my previous posts here and here. Look forward to hear from you.

Ps. There still seems to be some outgoing postal issues in Taiwan, for example I know it is not possible to send anything to Ukraine yet (sorry @zirochka). Not sure if there are more countries.

You want a postcard from Taiwan?

Woops! I forgot! You're here already 😂

The postcard look really beautiful, it need you country is amazing

It's a lovely country in deed

HK is just so near from Taiwan.. Can I get one too from you? Hehe

Of course you can Jane!

Thanks. 🥰

Late for me to realize, I can't give this address where I live to others 😂.. I'm living with my boss, so she'll be the one to receive it and get it in the mailbox, lol.

Sorry, been really behind with messages. That's unfortunate. If you want, I can send it to a friends address for you. Either way, thanks for your interest

Whoa this is a cool experiment ha. Post Card is something anyone would live to receive specially if it contains a photo of a Place that some has no chance on visiting.

Yes, it a nice way to connect with people!

Good luck api :)
Best wishes and looking forward to what will come out of it

Hopefully lots of interaction!

Just incase if u r wondering API means elder sister (in Pakistan) and DIDI (in india) for elder sister.
API word is used to give respect to a girl.

I thought I was some sort of internet interface 😂

Half of my life, I thought a guy is standing in this picture. Thus you were a guy to me !LOLZ

Life is funny. :)

I wonder if glass coffins will become popular one day?
Remains to be seen.

You're saying I look like a guy???? 😡

No, I didn't looked closely. it was a fault from myside. Then once I saw ladies of hive badge on your id, then I opened the pic in proper size. On that day I knew you are a female. Otherwise, it was just a person's shadow standing in my phone's tiny screen.

Such a Good idea behind this experiment....is this for everyone?.

Best wishes and have a Great weekend.

Yes, open to everyone, as long as the postal service can mail it for me

Didn't know how to message you so I sent a friend request on Discord instead

Wow! This is something good. I haven't receive any post card before. I would try to participate and try to contact you in discord. Keep safe and God bless.

Great to hear that!

Great that you are doing this again! I admire all the ways that you connect with people!

Hi Sara, my last experiment stopped unexpectedly when I had to leave Taiwan the other year, time to give it proper closure 😊

Back to the old school and that's cool! 😎

It's nice to go back to basics sometimes, to actually touch and feel something instead of everything being virtual

It's truly a great initiatives to more people from all around the world, Hope you will get more responses own ward.

I hope so, thanks!

@livinguktaiwan What a nice gesture to accompany your experiment. I want to join you!

Look forward to it!!!

Postcard? Did I hear postcard as in real snail-mail?! Oh yes, I'm totally in, will see if I can message you on Discord otherwise I'll friend-request. And I hope to be able to return the favor and send you a card to Taiwan or the UK on day :)

Yup, postcard and snail mail. Two things nearly forgotten in the modern world 😃

What a lovely experiment @livinguktaiwan! It's so rare to find a letter in the postbox nowadays. Our postal service is really poor but we still get the odd letter, very much delayed though!
I would love to take part🤗

Yeah!!!! I'd love to send you one Lizzie!

Wow, I'm not alone!! :) I still send postcards to some friends everytime I travel, I know they'll put a smile on their faces. I might join in on that experience for sure! :) !LUV

I'll look forward to it @pardinus, I made quite a few new friends and learnt about other countries last time, hopefully it will be the same or even more successful this time

That’s awesome… I’m in… will send you a message shortly on discord.
I would like to send you a card too from up here 😉🤓

Yeah!!

How are you settling down Jackie?

Very well, busy though. Still unpacking and had already visitors (hubbies mom plus husband) for over 1 week. So things stopped a bit.
Now back into it. Paperwork, unpacking and exploring. All good 😎

Thanks to that nice experiment I received several gifts from you that I still appreciate and take care of, I have my postcard, my necklace, the stikers and from the second shipment because you did it twice for me, a 3D Christmas card that has decorated my tree, as well as a paper with a nice message.

Those objects connected us physically in space and time. Thank you Pauline. @livinguktaiwan 🤗

Sending the items to you was an experience for myself Ana Marie, and I learnt quite a lot Venezuela that time. Thank you for giving me that opportunity!

This is very cool. It's been so long since I received a postcard. I don't know if you can send postcards from Taiwan to Venezuela. Someone tried to send me something from the Philippines last year and was sent it back. But we won't know if we don't try, so I'm sending you a message to participate in your experiment 😊.

It should get to Venezuela, it just takes little while 😀

Hermoso cuando uno colecciona postales, tenia muchas pero con la mudanza no se donde fueron a parar,

That's a pity, we always seem to lose things when we move

Wish to receive a postcard from you, just kidding!

what a fantatsic idea, I always send them to my family from my travels,

That's so sweet of you! It's always nice to get something through the post that doesn't ask you for money or spam you 😆

lol @livinguktaiwan yes junk mail! I hate it.

What a great idea! Several years ago I took part in an interesting chain. A journal was being sent around the world. We'd receive it, write a bit about our country/city (adopted one in my case) and then send it out. I think it was a school project for a young girl in the States but I don't remember exactly. A cool idea anyway.

I am a fountain pen user and exchanging letters is a common thing in the fountain pen community (I think the idea is just to have an excuse to use their expensive pens and inks) so I've gotten letters from all over the world before. Kind of cool.

I don't know if Japan's postal service is still messed up or not. During the worst of covid mail from outside the country wasn't being delivered reliably, and even after it was still a mess for a while. Let me check on that.

You write till March till you leave Taiwan. So you are only in Taiwan temporarily?

The journal idea is really cool, though if it's around the world it's a really slow project!! Actually it's a bit like the Hive Torch we had previously, did that come around to you?

We don't get many opportunities to write anything nowadays, let alone using a fountain pen! My Christmas card list is dwindling every year ☹️ Which is why I figured this would be a nice experiment to do a few years ago when I was still in Taiwan. Then I had to leave and only returned recently, and now I want to give the experiment a proper closure before I leave again next month. (Yes, temporary stay only to wrap things up)

I think the mail has go better now, at least in UK, I even manage to send two parcels to Ukraine last year, but for some reason, the post to Ukraine is still not available from Taiwan yet. Hopefully it's only due to the war, and other countries aren't affected.

Ps. There still seems to be some outgoing postal issues in Taiwan, for example I know it is not possible to send anything to Ukraine yet (sorry @zirochka).

Let it be our biggest problem 😉

Great to hear your experiment continues! It's a great idea.

!LUV

You may be pleased to know there is a human router who has kindly offered his service to route mail from Taiwan to Ukraine 😊

OMG!! This is amazing! God bless you and that kind person ❤️

What a nice thing to do. A custom that has been lost due to the advancement of technologies. But to receive a handwritten postcard, a sort of traveling friend we can say, the postcard, which shows on your skin a little bit of another sky or another life. I would be delighted to send you postcards from Cuba... but I would make them myself. My photos, or something I make with my own hands.

Wow! A handmade postcard!!

Anyway, I'd love to send one to Cuba, that will be a new country on my list. Please do hit me up on Discord!

Wounderfull .thanks for sharing these

You're welcome

And your welcome too
