Intel's new i9 CPU

in #tech8 years ago

So, I’ve always been a PC gaming fan but I’ve never had the funds to really dabble into it. (My gaming PC is almost 7 years old now)

I’ve decided I’m going to save up some of my Steem and invest in upgrading my PC. So, looking into CPU’s led me to find Intel’s new X-series.

Intel’s new family of “Core X” processors are offering even more powerful versions of its existing Core i5 and Core i7 models, along with a new, top-of-the-line Core i9 line for those who want even more firepower.

The Core X CPU’s are being aimed directly at enthusiast customers like gamers and content creators (In other words us!) - people who want to be able to run the latest games at the best possible resolution while streaming footage and running a chat with viewers or have four different creative tools open at once in my case to put together a new vlog.

The Core X-series scales from models with 4-cores topping out with the $1,999 Core i9 Extreme, which Intel proudly points out is the first consumer desktop processor to offer 18-cores and 36-threads.

So unfortunately, my earnings on Steem won’t save me enough to afford $1,999, so I may have to opt for an I5 or I7 if I’m lucky.

Big question,

What CPU should I save for?

I wish I had an excuse to buy a 20-core CPU. I just couldn't imagine what I'd use all those cores for, even though I do a bit of video editing and gaming.

I always buy the K-series to overclock, but even then, it's not very often that I even need the extra hertz.

Maybe the cash is better spent on a 1080ti? Widescreen 144hz?

Yeah 20 cores is excessive, my CPU is 7 years old i think it is well in need of replacing haha

These new i9 cpus from intel are normal xeon cpus.
They have to release something after AMD make big approach.

Also, I am looking for new benchmarks, it will be nice to see.

I think I will, I'll need a new board to support it so some serious Steeming being done!

YEAH! You will need a New Board For It! But It is Future Proof!

Yes totally agree!!

I don't do games, so my quad core AMD may do for a while. They must be hitting some limits of what is possible, but I guess they can keep adding cores. I like a quiet PC, so I'd go for one that doesn't use too much power.

I found specs here

Yeah I agree A quiet PC is good. I have a Macbook Pro with an i7 and all the mod cons for my Video editing and photo work. Mac's just dont cut it for games, so PC upgrade is needed haha !

i7 7700k Pal, thats what im getting, Its £300. one of the best out there until the i9

Yeah seems like a good option, depends on how much I need to spend on a new motherboard too

Im currently looking at an Asus one thats about 130 quid. but youll have to buy different ram. DDR4

Yeah pretty much a new setup altogether hahah

resteemed, i got drewling going on from the specs :) even if i probably would never have us for anything like the i9 extreme ^^

Yeah I agree, if i wont the lottery i'd be straight on that i9 hahahah
