Ep.3📲 The Attention Revolution - Mass Adaptation

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

I’m picking up this blog- series again about my thoughts on the future, history and present-based predictions in different aspects, ranging from blockchain tech over social media to AI. The reason why I want to exclusively share this with you is because the Steemit community as of right now is still like rare breed of people who are more curious than fearful, awake while everybody else is still sleeping, scientists who choose doing and knowing over waiting and watching and by simply being here, reading this, it is likely that you are open-minded enough to be interested and you might have similar futuristic thoughts, that I would love to learn about as well.

Episode 1: <<here>>

Episode 2: <<here>>

The new world is digital

and is moving at a rapid pace like never before. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited, slightly freaked out.. but actually I don’t really spend time on figuring out whether I like where we’re heading or not, because it’s going to happen either way, and I have to choose now and act quickly to position myself and everything I do, to be prepared and ahead of time.

If you’re reading this right now we are in the same boat, the one that has left a sinking island. Some of the people on the island don’t know about our boat, some don’t know about the island sinking and others know about the island and the boat, but disregard it, because they fear the unknown sea and will only find it necessary to leave when the island is close to gone.  (Hopefully this made sense in comparison to the real world banking system)
That's the game of the ever-changing market.

We know that our attention and majority of time spent is transitioning from the real world to virtual more and more every day and yet the majority of the biggest brands in the world are blind to this fact that the Internet has arbitraged out the traditional media channels.

Today I felt inspired by a speech I came across of social media, entrepreneur and marketing star Gary V and he summed it up pretty well… All humans are traders, every day you are day-trading attention. No matter what you do, what you sell, if you're running for office or if you're trying to raise money for a nonprofit, you’ve got to communicate your value. Regardless of what you do, you need to find where the attention of your target audience is and then learn how to communicate your value properly.

In the last years 96% of the Fortune 500 companies in the world lost market share. The main reason for that is that they fail to recognize the ATTENTION SHIFT that is taking place right in front of their eyes. They are too busy looking at statistics and running their traditional system instead of looking around and realizing what’s really happening and they continue to market like it's 1985.

The only time this big of businesses have lost this much global market share was the late 40's and early 50's when the world transitioned from radio to television.

Right now we are transitioning from television to the mobile device.

Our phones have become the primary device of our lives. Not only the remote control of our lives, but our phones have become the television and the television the radio.

Now all these platforms Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat are the new media channels just like CNN, BBC NBC, Nickelodeon. But there is one big difference. Anybody who wants can own a channel, advertise and turn from a solo entrepreneur to a million dollar empire.  But more about that in a different episode.

How do you know that the REVOLUTION is just starting and far from over?

One reason of so many: Television commercials are still historically overpriced.  Meanwhile Influencer Marketing is more underpriced than anything else in marketing. The traditional social media is still undervalued (which shows how far ahead Steemit is). It's news that social media is not just this fancy thing teenagers have, it's the current state of communication in an internet environment. We are just at the edge at the very beginning of the transition of people realizing that it's not this little thing anymore.

Linking back to what I wrote a while ago about the future of technology and mass adaptation… People used to think social media was a scam and I used to think „Who gives a crap about what you ate for dinner“ In 2017, turns out.. a lot of people do.

Everybody would be laughing at me if I was to say it's possible to make money on the internet, to create a product and sell it on an e-commerce website... 20 years ago. The entire internet was "a scam" back then. It took 46 years for people to believe that electricity is not fake, 35 years for people to understand that telephone really works, 16 years to adapt to using a computer and another 7 years to realize the internet is real. Even with YouTube, people made fun of kids creating videos and posting them online, like "what a waste of time". The guy who’s recording himself playing video games, that now has a few million dollars more in his pocket and is the number one YouTuber.

Being a YouTuber a few years ago was not a term, maybe a stupid hobby. Now back to the storyline.. that tells us two things. Firstly, people are always skeptical, they fear the unknown. And actually when we think about this form a psychological POV it's quite funny,  I wrote if you wish to dig deeper into the origin of why humans fear of change, feel free to read this article of mine. And second, Congratulations! I'm assuming because you are reading this on Steemit, you are ahead of time; aware of what's happening in this world and I hope you will stay for the long-run and prove the doubters wrong in a matter of time. If you've built an online business, use social media effectively, invested in cryptocurrencies, you have prepared just like when you get snacks just in time, before the movie starts.

I remember a few years ago when people told me I shouldn’t invest in this risky spam thing called Bitcoin. Can you guess who called me the other day asking „What exactly is Bitcoin and how do I get involved?“ Yes, the same people. As I like to put it:

Don’t wait until it happens, because in today’s world the downside of being wrong is nothing compared to the upside of being right!

As we are approaching a new economy, transitioning from real world to digital, there are many different shifts taking place and the effect this will have on existing systems, businesses and people is beyond our imagination. So stay excited for me to explore all that and more in the following episodes.

What are your thoughts on the future?

Much love,

- Mrs.Steemit

Sort:

Steemit is blowing my mind. When I think about all the bloggers who put in years and years of blogging, just to get beer money, I'm astounded by what we have here.

Steemit really feels like the right place at the right time.

Yes timing is critical to success! Mass adoption here we come! #TheFutureIsNow

Ok you just gave me a good reason to follow you
to me it seems you are really on top of your game :-)

right now we have infinite possibilities to create something mind blowing

being a part of a online revolution is just great
future will tell how clever we were ^^
the big players don't like losing control over the masses, they will try to stop us
but if you get your mindset straight, right now :-) you probably don't need to worry

Thanks, I appreciate it!
Even though I think education plays a huge role, I believe what matters much more is simplifying it. In the beginning only those who knew how to build a computer had one. If it would require people to learn how to build a computer in order to use the internet, the world would probably not be where it is today.

There is no question about it @mrs.steemit
education is everything
but what have you learned in school?
how to be a part of their system, nothing else
so here is a real need in developing different education forms
and it should be FREE for everyone
Steemit or similar platforms could be a great possibility to offer education
teachers finally can teach what they think its necessary without being regulated by some creepy system ideas
they will also earn more probably, if they doing it right...
and it gives students rewards as well

Yes invest in your education whatever form that may be, and when it comes to investing in crypto - Learn, don't trade lol!

Speaking of education, more and more classes are now on the internet.

A few of my faves - BitMedia, Chris Coney's Cryptoversity, and Ameer Rosic's BlockGeeks :)

Andreas Antonopolous describes this as the 5 Stages of Grief that banks will go through after the invention of bitcoin :)

The future will be completely digital as we age out from the older generation to the more younger. There is a swift transition taking place and those that entered early will only benefit more than those who come later. We are still at the beginning of that slow transition. It's our duty to tell everyone about this global change which will effect everyone's lives in some years to come! @mrs.steemit

Great post BTW. Love it as usual

I'm new around here and so glad to have discovered her blog today! :)

Totally agree. I think the change will happen whether people are told about it or not. It's a tsunami and nothing can stop it!

First of all, thank you very much for your insightful article. It is nice to read intelligent, well thought out articles that stimulate the mind. I agree with you 100% about getting the word out to as many as possible, as quickly as possible. I have been telling anyone that will listen at work, socially, etc about IOT, cryptocurrency, decentralization and Steem that will listen. It is exciting to be involved in this in the "earlier stages" of the technology adoption cycle. I just started following you and look forward to the future articles!

Thank you! Keep actively working for progress, so many people will thank you later for it

@mrs.steemit, very interesting and thought provoking post... enjoyed hearing your thoughts!

The future is always hard to predict; what will people adopt, what will they not? Just like we have these amazing inventions that changed the course of history, we also have a trail of great ideas that became nothing... whether it was the choice of Edison's electricity, rather than Tesla's... VHS vs Beta; CDs beating out Laser Discs.

In other words, a great and revolutionary idea is no guarantee of mass adoption and paradigm change.

I like watching meta trends in society... seems to me a large part of current shifts (towards the "attention economy," among other things) can be attributed back to a broader shift that's making "things" less important than "experiences." The old paradigm still tries to keep us addicted to consuming "objects" but as Millennials age "stuff" will continue to lose ground, and "ideas" will gain; the idea of "work" will grow independent of location and "production" of anything... in many ways, Steemit is at the bleeding edge of that trend.

How far decentralization will go remains to be seen... humans tend to be tribal and seek like-kind; even loners will confess that they belong to "the tribe of loners," so I'd suggest we all need to be cautious that we don't throw away the positives of centralized structures with the proverbial bath water.

Thank you! I agree the future isn't certain, but the direction is, by looking just like you stated at trends. I personally want to see decentralization, freedom and fairness spread across the world.

Great thoughts ! Keep following ur dreams !

Thanks and back at ya :)

like the part about everyone being a trader and only the commodity changing whether it be money, time, crypto or combination of sorts.

Appreciate you took the time to read my opinion :)

What I find disturbing is that the Facebook algorithms used to control your news feeds are programmed to show you things that you want to see and that it knows you will like. This leads to people developing very narrow minded opinions.

This why I love steemit because I get to see alternate views along with the ability to show support to those views to which I agree. This platform is therefore a much healthier media channel for society in my opinion.

100% agree with you. I was actually thinking about writing a blogpost where I elaborate on this. Love that you pointed it out :)

No worries! I was first made aware of it in a documentary I watched earlier this year. I'll see if I can find it for you and I'll message the link :) Loved each episode so far, keep them coming (Y)

I knew you were the right person to take advice from. VaynerNation represent!

I had similar encounter too in my 4 years for being a crypto enthusiast. First they tell me "it's a scam" and refuse to listen to any of my explanations. Then they call me out as a scammers when i ignore them because apparently one can be a scammer without asking for money. Then in a few months to years time I suddenly get a msg from them demanding me to tell them "I do I mine bitcoin and how soon can I expect profit"..

Sorry, ship has sailed and I'm not going near that attitude.

By the way in case I haven't tell you yet. I love your post! In fact I love everyone of of them!l

It's crazy when you think about it that most people simply lack optimism, doubt everything and let their fears ruin incredible opportunities. I truly think in this era we have to be careful about underestimating a thing. Who would have thought that social media would become the new TV.

& Thank you. Appreciate the support! :)

With all the information out there (real and fake), Care is something we have to take into our own hands now.

IMO We'd have to be both optimistic and be smart about not being easily duped at the same time. I'm not the type to immediately dismiss something but im the more of Elon-Musk-style keeping tab on things rather than jumping all in so easily. Which is why when Steem clicked with me, I bet everything (like Mr. Musk) i have and spend all my hours on it. Steem really is the way forward. Social Media is the new Media and Steem will soon be at it's forefront.

Hope i can make it to SF2 and meet you there! :D

I am always trying to read up on what the future is going to be like. Some of the craziest things being predicted are by Ray Kurzweil, who is a computer scientist, inventor and futurist. He says in the year 2045 the 'Singularity' will happen where advancements in artificial intelligence will bring upon an explosion of technological advancements - so much so that it will be too hard to predict what happens after.

That's interesting! Only a matter of time...

thanks mrs steemit you're killing it!

Really enjoyed your article. I agree that times are a changin' as Bob Dylan sings, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's as simple as one island sinking and needing to get on a boat. Some people will never get turned on even to what we view as the simplest technology, and they can still live a lucrative and happy life without sinking to the depths of an ocean trench (metaphor for bankruptcy I guess?).

Farmers, artists, servers, chefs, certain types of doctors even, don't need to immerse themselves in the tech-driven world. I'm in med school and I fear the idea that physicians will become too reliant on technology, so reliant that bedside manner and individualized, face to face communication goes by the wayside. If I jump too quickly on the tech/AI boat, maybe the metaphor changes around and I've actually gotten into a boat with a leak in it....The point is I think we need people that show an enthusiasm and attention to detail outside of the technologically driven world as well, and whether or not you sink or swim is hugely dependent on the field you're in.

Thanks for sharing your really interesting p.o.v.! I definitely agree with the points you mentioned and with the metaphor I mean the people who rather trust centralized authorities to be in charge of their assets instead of themselves because that's the traditional way, just like with education.. only those who do research on their own to find truths and don't rely on school to educate them, will win, not in terms of money, but in terms of life, freedom, personal progress and happiness. But that's just a though of mine. Time is the answer

Thoughtful reply :). Right, I think your main point does (and will) hold true in general for those who hold on traditional authorities a little too tightly. I'm one of those who does want to adapt with the times, but in a way that keeps me grounded in the past as well.

Couldn't agree more. Some people act like the economy is tanking...and it is in a way...but I think it's also just shifting. Like you say, things are transitioning...and I believe it's one of the greatest times to be alive even though there are many hardships, there is also many more ways to recover if you stumble.

I agree that we are living through an exciting era, if we think about history and the world 100 years ago..

That is a thoughtfull article that you wrote! I tried to explain to someone that 40 or 50 years ago it might cost close to one million dollars to buy a low en t.v. camera, lights, sound equipment, and air time...today a superior production can be done for under $100. I think as time moved foreward people started to care less and less about "fake" theatrics and the film studios that have millions of dollars invested think that people want to see fireballs.

But instead of focousing on what did happen I want to focous on what could happen. steemit is not just the latest social media platform, you tube and facebook ha financial backers, and if a guy like me did not toe the line the financial backers would put the squeeze on facebook. So facebook was to t.v. like democrats are t republicans. However in my understanding steemit is to t.v. like horses are to flowers!

I do not think that facebook would have allowed a huge conversation about neonectoids (they proably would as long as no issues were resolved) As far as I know steemit is not just a new way that things can be done, it is a changing of the guard (so to speak) I expect huge juggernats to go bankrupt once people read the unfiltered truth! So steemit is like a "controlled burn" people that manage the forest realize that every so often certain parts of the forest needs to be removed so that new growth can emerge.

Hi Miss Steemit,

The fact that we are shifting to an information age will result in a focus not upon knowledge, but upon experience. This shift is a radical one as knowledge is focused upon by the mind, whereas experience is focused upon by the soul. We are moving towards a soulcentric mode of being where we are more open and connected, less judgemental and individualistic. As we move forward, we will get more and more clear and capacitated in our discernment between actions, words etc, motivated by unmet unconscious needs and those actions, words, etc that are motivated by service to the soul of humanity, which has greater intrinsic value & will be upvoted more than this post.

i really enjoyed reading this post.. very nice post.

Thanks!

you are most welcome.

Its already a digital economy. How soon people accept ai ,automation ,vr , self driving cars is the question? As a stated in my post decentralization is not all glittering gold.. it comes with its own challenges but some form of central control will always be there. Thats the human nature

Hello, I completely agree with you!

Don’t wait until it happens, because in today’s world the downside of being wrong is nothing compared to the upside of being right!

Great quote!

We now could own our data!

Thanks!

If you're standing still you're only going backwards because time stands still for no one :)

Who would believe, even today, there is a beautiful woman married to a social media site called steemit?

;-)

Great post, you nailed it. That's why the Wall Street Journal tried to take down PewDiePie - he has something around 13x the reach that they do, so they started producing hit pieces to kill his sponsors.

Everyone in cryptocurrencies has probably experienced other people calling them crazy. If you think you have an investment that is going to go up by 100x, you are wrong if everyone doesn't think you are crazy. For you to make $100, some 100 other people have to lose $1. Nobody ever made money long-term following everybody else.

Interesting fact. For the first time the people gain back control over media and influence.
And I agree we need to think for ourselves. Nothing great has ever come from walking a path, most have walked already.

It was amazingly interesting to follow your thoughts)

Thanks! :)

feel like i've not seen you around here forever! i remember watching your presentation at steemfest last year! are you going to steemfest2?

I've been hearing a lot about this, I wanna go lol! What can you tell me about it please?

just do a search for #steemfest2 or click the tag i put and dig deeper!

Thanks, that was easy enough lol!!

you're very welcome. follow me for more life hacks and power tips! :)

I completely agree, this is only the beginning.

One day television will no longer exist. Times are changing. that day is coming soon and that means advertisers will become more willing to invest in social media personalities and such, which is great.

One day we will be literally printing the food we eat.

The future scares me though. Technology will replace any job you can think of. So where does that leave us? That's the thought that scares me.

I agree everything you say, but what I do think can't be programmed is creativity. Robots can become perfect at imitating us and follow instructions, but they can't invent, so either the jobs will be you either become a programmer or artist.

"I’m excited, slightly freaked out.. " Same here! Fantastic read. I agree with most if not all of your points.

Thanks. What are your thoughts on this topic?

Well, i do agree that television to mobile phone is happening. Just like it happened to radio to television, and now i think we will move on from banks to crypto currencies/a more digital way. Like you said " that we are the ones that has left a sinking island. Some of the people on the island don’t know about our boat, some don’t know about the island sinking and others know about the island and the boat."

The digital revolution is real!

Someone talking about future and cool staff that i like deserve to be follow 😉

Thanks, appreciate it

You got the stigs first vote congratulations !

Super great post!
I love this topic and I totally agree to what you are saying. Technology is the future and I am still shocked what happened to all these "Youtuber" and social media stars in general.

Thanks love! So much more to come...

So exited darling <3

I love your writing style. I' m also very excited about blockchain future.

Thank you, appreciate it.

pewdiepie can buy steemit :)

We do things and ride on the phenomena of crypto and building a new community who's neighborhood is aware of what was happening on the web and what was fast pacing the new Dawn of era @mrs.steemit. but I do truly sad and felt lonely to those people whom we wanted to share this great opportunity to go beyond from where they just have and accept what is coming, but they just say "yeah and listen but never do and take no action of what we share to them" felt they just wasted time hope it's not too late for them while the bubble is constantly continue to grow. Well, it's there lost not our we just want to share what we have as steemians, googooo steem!

The creators of Steemit made something that will forever change how people consume content and get compensated for creating and consuming content. The thing I like about Steemit is that we get more by giving (be it upvotes, comments or posts) and the more people we have, the more value is created.

I'm excited about the future. Just look at the number of daily new users joining Steemit recently. It's now averaging thousands per day! Simply amazing.

:)

^ ^ Hands down the most beautiful steem blogger @mrs.steemit

you realy serious

I'm not joking.

Lol... we are already beyond the mobile device with cloud computing and virtual reality. this post is kinda lame

just looked at your blog, and I'm sorry you have all this negative energy. I wish you all the best and agree that we are beyond the mobile device already, but the as we know the mainstream market is always behind, the real world is in the mobile device revolution while we are in the future.

Word UP lady

I need to disagree ! I believe that the post is well written and its exiting to read. Not many people are talking about that topic and I am glad you took so much time and effort into this post @mrs.steemit !

thanks babe <3

Steemit is revolutionizing blogging and socializing. Thumbs up!

It's always too late to join the blockchain revolution

Wow great

I enjoy your optimistic and future-focused writing style. Upvoted and followed!

Great post, @mrs.steemit! I'm super into tech, especially cryptos so I'm planning on following you and look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Cable TV prices go up every year too.

Great post! Thoughts on the future?? We will be witnessing the greatest transfer of wealth in modern history! #TheFutureIsNow

I think the most important thing to realise is that the older chaps are institutionalised. They see institutions as the arbiters of power and that is where the fear lies with some people because the comfort of a belief in an institution. Every grain of comfort holds the seed of fear. Suffice to say, decentralisation has the momentum, like a tide encroaching on the sandcastles (institutions) that have been built on the beach. Has it all been planned this way, well, it wouldn't be called a plan-et, if it hadn't?
