SPOTTED #1: The Smallest Auto in the World

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

This post is pretty much inspired by the SPOTTED series of our famous Fulltime Steemit Blogger @knozaki2015!

Walking the streets of Lviv I've spotted something interesting I wanted to show you this time.

I bet you thought that the smallest auto in the world is Smart Automobile produced by Daimler AG. You were wrong :D

Meet the Smallest Auto in the World: Peel P50!

_MG_9125.jpg

From wikipedia:

The Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar originally manufactured from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man. It was listed in the 2010 Guinness World Records as the smallest production car ever made.[3] It had no reverse gear, but a handle at the rear allows the very lightweight car to be physically manoeuvred when required.

Designed as a city car, it was advertised in the 1960s as capable of seating "one adult and a shopping bag". The vehicle's only door was on its left side and equipment included a single windscreen wiper and one headlight. Standard colours were Daytona White, Dragon Red, and Dark Blue. The 1963 model retailed for £199 when new (about £1,400 in 2010, or US$2,200). The company produced 50 P50s and only 27 are known to still exist, one of which was sold for a record US$176,000 at a Sotheby's auction in March 2016.

Some more statistics from wikipedia:

At 54 in (1,372 mm) long and 39 in (991 mm) wide[6] and with an unladen weight of 59 kilograms (130 lb), the P50 holds the record as the smallest car ever to go into production.[3]

I knew I've spotted extremely rare auto, but when I saw it I didn't know that it's one of 50 P50s ever produced!!!

I don't know how come it is standing on the street of an ordinary Ukrainian city, but it was really amazing to see that original auto there...

Nice find? You see how I'm giving you more and more incentives to come to that awesome city :D

I didn't have opportunity for a test drive, nor seen this one cute auto in action, so here is some great video from BBC for you:

Hope you enjoyed my post! Perhaps you also seen this car somewhere?

Everyone needs to drive a vehicle , even the very tall. This was the largest auto I could afford. Should I therefore be made the subject of fun , huh?

It is indeed :D

Perfect for commuting all the way to your desk ;)

Absolutely xD
Nice find, huh? I guess I shall try to buy it from the owner...
Thanks for stopping by!

We all know that small cars are good for us. But so is cod liver oil. And jogging.

-Jeremy Clarkson-

Wow, that's a great find. Thank you for sharing this post. I didn't know that there was a car that small. It would have been great to have car of that size when trying to park in a city like New York City where it can be really hard to find parking.

There are some funny things in the video I've posted, I mean about parking :D
Thanks much for your comment!

It just looks like a toy, I suppose :D
Just watch that video! Thanks much for commenting!

If I remember correctly I watched that episode of top-gear were Clarksen got up to all kinds of mischief driving it hahaha

I found this very interesting...

Thanks much for your comment!

Thanks for sharing this ! Now I can live in peace knowing there's a car this small :)

Now we all can live in peace xD
Thanks much!

cool car

Absolutely agreed!

It is basically a closed bicycle.....however it's novelty lends it it's value....so there is a business lesson here......it does not matter how small or innocuos your venture is....what matters is are you thinking what others are not!!!!!

Yep, these business lessons are all around us :D
Thanks much for taking your time to comment!

How the heck is that even possible ! I wouldnt be able to get a leg into that thing!

Well, it was positioned as a car for an adult with a shopping bag :D
Thanks much!

Oh! That expensive antique car looks like a bump car. It's so cute and unique. It made me think that people way back then are so simple. They are easily content with simple things like that car :)

Just like me lol
I would easily content with a car worth US$176,000 ))))
Thanks for your comment!

Fits perfectly into a backpack.

It would fit virtually anywhere I guess xD
Thanks for commenting!

I probably can't fit in there! =D

I can't tell about you, but I wouldn't suggest this car for a long ride anyway xD
Thanks for the comment!

that's very cool and cute! It's hardly to imagine that a car can be made as mini as this one. It's must be a wonderful experience to have a ride in it! I want to try it!

I would definitely have a test drive, but it wasn't possible...
Thanks for taking your time to comment!

I wouldn't be so scared, but I really haven't had a chance. Perhaps next time...
Thank you for your comment!

Very cute! I bet @ssekulji would enjoy a test drive! :D

Indeed, my friend!
This is kinda sport car afterall xD
Thanks a lot!

Amazing little car and I love the video of how it goes everywhere. Thanks for the post.

I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks much for commenting!

That amazing how small this car actually is I know I can't personally fit in it, but it just looks so cool. In today's age we are always trying to make things smaller like cell phones, laptops, even cars like we see with the smarts. Companies are all about making our lives easier sometimes for the better. When they first made this car it was only to innovate an help a single person, get around the city easier. This was probably a luxury for some back then, but a genius idea for the guys producing it. They identified a problem with large vehicles, then created a solution. This just shows people were ahead of the times innovating future change. Fast forward to today these small type of cars are in mass production. Who knows if it wasn't for the early producers of the car above, maybe there would be no smart cars today. So I encourage innovators, inventors, an producers don't be afraid of change or making something new. You could eventually make something that will change the world for the best, so keep pushing. Great post I never knew these small early cars existed. 🙏🙏

Uh oh, your comment seems to be bigger than my post xD
I share your opinion about innovations, absolutely agreed.
I'm also very glad you liked my post, please stay tuned for more great posts!
Thanks!

Super funny!!! And here I thought an Isetta was the smallest car ;)

Awww, you mean BMW Isetta? Had to google that one... Looks so cute :D
Thanks for sharing and commenting!

Yip, that's the one. My father-in-law actually has an Isetta ;)

The question is... Can it hit V-Tec?!

I guess it can hit something that's for sure xD

What a cute tiny car! I would have to pull a trailer for my dog, it doesn't look like he would fit inside! He might like running along the side though!

I wouldn't be risking that much... We should care about the animals xD
Thanks for your comment!

I remember this from Top Gear brilliant! Would not be seen in it though!

Oh, I missed that and haven't seen the video before I googled :D
Thanks for your comment!

That would be the perfect car for my height hehe! Think I once saw this in the show Top gear and it fell over a few times when making a turn... so maybe better you didn't test it!

Oh, I haven't had an opportunity to test it anyway :D
Thanks for commenting, Amy!

I learn something new every day. Thanks for the post.

Thanks much for commenting @rabidusfilms!

Easy to find a parking spot! ;-)

That's a huge benefit these days indeed :D

fact ! you cant drive it on a windy day ! ^^

Well, I was driving a big loaded car in mountains some years ago and I must tell you this wasn't a pleasant journey... So you must be right here, but it depends I guess :D

imagine that driving a "car" 59kg and another 85kg load (average male weight) and 6 beaufort wind ! Hard mode bonus: driving in the mountains you said ! xD

Машинка викликає розчулення :)

Абсолютно )))
Я був надзвичайно розчулений...

Wow that is one small car! I've never seen anything like it lol! Great post!

Thanks much, Natasha!

Yeah, I remember seeing that on Top Gear. Didn't he take it in the lift if I remember right?

Yep, and brought it to the office eventually :D

Oh, this car has already been taken to the street! Was in the cafe! Is not that?

It was outside actually, right at the entrance of the Atlas Restaurant.

great car, is this car? like not I think

Yes and no... I mean technically it's still a car, but whatever xD

Reminds me of the car Steve Urkle used to drive on family matters.

Cool for Steve Urkle! Thanks for commenting :D

it would be very intesting if they would have a omplete functional version.

I guess it is (or can be a functional version)...
Thanks for the comment!
