Upvotes: Finding The Style That Works For You

in #voting6 years ago

People often talk about upvoting and what is the best way to go about it.

I think it important to note for all new people, everyone on here, whether Whale or Red Fish, operates under the exact same voting rules. While the value of the vote changes as one amasses more SP, the amount of votes does not waver.

Each person is entitled to 10 full votes per day (100%). This is because it takes 2.4 hours for a 100% vote to replenish.

When one is new to Steemit.com, the voting slider bar is not available (from what I understand, it is available to those who use busy.org). Hence, all votes have to take place at 100%. I do not know the reason for this but it is how it is. Once a person hits 500 SP, the slider bar is available and will enable one to vote at lower percentages meaning he or she gets more votes.

Before deciding how to vote, I think it is important to know what your goal is?

Being a part of @fulltimegeek's program, we see a weekly listing done by @abh12345 of what each person who was delegated SP does. One of the big areas is the number of votes cast. If you click on his last update, you can see the voting is all over the place.

To read abh12345's full post:

https://steemit.com/stewardsofgondor/@abh12345/fulltimegeek-s-stewardsofgondor-weekly-stats-with-self-vote-percentage-data

As you can see from the chart, the number of voted given ranges from 55-1600+. That is quite a spread. So which method is correct?

The answer is they both are, depending upon the goals of the individual.

With voting, there are basically two approaches:

Giving fewer votes but having each worth more.

This is the method that garners attention especially if someone has a lot of SP. Here is where a post can really jump. From my observation, this is a method that many whales use. They will go around upvoting content they like yet give the article or comment quite a lift. These are the ones who are really looking to reward quality content.

Of course, it isn't only whales who do that. I know a few dolphins who are not as active as others on here, hence they can vote at a much higher percentage and still keep their VP up. It is nice to get these votes and these, people, even though they run in small circles, tend to be remembered.

Giving lots of votes but reducing the amount of each one

The individuals in @fulltimegeek's program who are casting 1,000+ votes a week are utilizing this approach. To them, giving votes to many different contributions is important. They certainly are from the "spreading the wealth" camp. If you look at the number of people they voted for, it tends to be a high number. They are all over the place upvoting things that catch their attention.

The first approach is a significant monetary award for putting up a quality post that someone likes. If you goal is to really reward the best of content you can find, this is the way to go.

If however, you want to motivate the masses, then spreading one's vote to as many different people as possible is very effective. This carries on even added meaning when upvoting newer people. Since their voting weight is not much, getting a vote worth .10 or .20 S.T.U. makes a difference. It could be the motivation that someone needs to stick with the site. We all know how frustrating it is when new.

Personally, I use a blended approach. To start, I have someone I adopted under the 1KSP program. He gets two 100% upvotes from me a day. The goal with this program is to move him ahead to 1,000 SP as quickly as we can. Hence, the votes I give him carry some weight.

I also upvote the quality comments made for my articles. Most of the unique 183 unique people I voted for are those who comment on my articles. Since I tend to get a lot of newer people reading and commenting on my stuff, I reward them each time they post a comment. I usually do this at 6% voting power which is roughly .60 S.T.U. There are a number of people who get 14-16 upvotes from me a week which, looking at their growth in their SP, is having an effect.

Obviously, I wish I could upvote everyone at 100%. However, the system is not designed for that. We have to put some thought into what we are doing and how we are using our votes. One thing I think imperative, at least for me, is to keep my voting power as high as I can. I rarely let it drift below 90% (I try to run it down to that level twice a day). As I wrote in the past, I do not want to take the delegation from @fulltimegeek and waste it because I ran my voting power down to 10%. In that situation, I just threw away 90% of the SP he delegated to me.

What about self upvotes? Many people seem to take exception to those who upvote their own stuff.

For me, it is simple. I take time and put a great deal of effort into my posts on here. Because of this, and based upon the feedback I get, I feel I produce quality posts. Therefore, I have no problem upvoting my own articles. Since I do 13-14 a week, this is the number of votes I give myself.

That said, I do not upvote my own comments. When I post a comment, it is in response to what someone else wrote (either an article or a comment). It is up to that person and whoever else reads it to determine whether the comment is worthy of an upvote (and for those who have seen my comments, they often are longer than many people's articles).

There is another reason why I believe in this approach. As my SP increases, so does my VP. Upvoting my articles brings in rewards that I use to power up, hence increasing my VP on a weekly basis. What this does is that, over time, the amount I am upvoting other people increases. It is rather simple: the more powerful you become, the more powerful I become: the more powerful I become, the more powerful you become. The system on here creates this magical circle.

I hope this provides some insight into how I use my voting power and offers ideas of the best way to approach yours.

One final thought, every person on here should make sure he or she is using the allotted voting power each day. This is how we move others, and ourselves, forward. The systems gives you 20% of your total voting power daily, use it.

I appreciate every upvote I get, whether it's .01¢ or $13.16 which I received from a very generous Steemian on a comment I left on your post Task.
I will remember that one for a very long time. (Actually I screenshot it)

I try to upvote 5 times in the morning, then 5 times before I go to bed, while searching for quailty content.

I try to upvote the freewriters in @mariannewest group but there are so many great writers, I really have to watch my VP when I'm sharing the love.

Really looking forward to the slider at 500sp. Great post task. 😎

Keeping VP always above 90% is a good idea to make sure we always operate at enough power. However sometimes I found out when I surf Steem a lil more active than usual, I would cast more votes than usual and bring my VP down.

I chose not to vote later on while keep reading new posts but I felt guilty doing that as those quality posts definitely need every reader's vote. Though my VP is not significant but making wise use of them makes me feel good.

Yup, I like to drop full upvotes on Minnows I see producing great stuff and then vary my vote based on quality comments on my page and users I follow. If I see an article I really like I try to upvote 100 and upvote in the comments as well.

I think it's important to upvote comments on your own posts, it's a great way to retain followers and show your appreciation

I agree. If someone takes the time to leave a legit comment, it is worthy of some type of vote.

With few comments, one can upvote at a higher amount...but as the comments expand, it gets to be brutal...then it is time to reduce the percentage some.

Nevertheless, I have seen the SP in many of my followers growing...especially the Red Fish. I want all of them to move up to 500 SP then 1000.....

As the price of STEEM increases, this can make a big impact.

What defines a red fish btw?

Under 500 SP is my understanding...

I think they call it planktin but I can never remember that so I just call it red fish.

I try to give much bigger upvotes to smaller accounts. For users bigger than I I usually give 5-15% , for users around the same size I give 20-60%. Smaller accounts usually get votes of 50-100% if I have the voting power for it. I’m not sure if this helps my own growth very much as I’ve never received 100% vote from a dolphin or whale but it spreads the distribution of wealth which is what I’m all about. Hopefully the big fish who know me don’t mind.

The thing I´m struggling with at the moment is, that I´d like to spread the wealth too, while keeping my VP up at the same time. It´s hard to find the right balance here. Also there is this contradiction of wanting to support newbies, while knowing that upvoting a newbie post most likely doesn´t give you any curation award at all and therefore slowing down ones own growth (and future potential to spread the wealth further). So yes, there are some upward spirals here, but as with everything in life, they are part of the yin/yang circle.... which brings up some ideas for my next post I want to write, that will be called "The TAO of Steemit" ;) Thanks for the inspiration :D

Upovted just for "The TAO if Steemit".

Run that by @wwf...I bet he would have amazing insight into that.

ha Thanks, that´s lovely. I may make this a series like my "Trade like a Crypto Monk" articles, but since I still have a daytime job and these articles take quite some time to write (...of course you know this...) it won´t happen before friday - ideas already coming in.... Thanks again for your daily inspiration! :)

Yes I know it and I work around it as much as I can....in fact, I am kind of over my job but hanging in for a little while longer.

I have to write a post at night to have it ready for the morning....so I can send it out first thing before leaving to go to work.

Soon we will all be full time Steemians.

I still have not figured this out yet. So when you up vote someone you lose steem power? And in order to power back up you have to use your steem? Also is there a bar to move your steem power to a certain percentage? Probably dumb questions but I thought I would ask any ways...

You don´t lose Steem Power but Voting Power. SP is your liquid Steem "powered up" and bound to Steemit for at least 3 months and is the basis for how much your votes are worth. Voting Power is decreases by each vote and replenishes itself over time - you get a slider to choose your VP after you got a certain SP value. If you look, there are many articles for newbies here on Steemit, that explain these things way better. :)

Good tip!

Like you, I am a "blended UPvote" person.
Having two steemians a week that I will UPvote 100% for the week, once every day' then I go about my business and give 10% here, 15% there, another 20% here. I watch my SP on steemworld and am constantly making sure I keep my SP between a 50-60% at the end of the day.

I let it re-charge overnight and start off the following day with around 90-95% SP and charge forward again.

I agree with all you wrote...that is my approach @goldendawne.

Keeping the VP up is difficult and requires discipline but it is well worth it.

I do not want to give someone an upvote worth .10 when it can be worth .60...the only reason it will be down is because I failed to discipline myself to vote in a manner that protects my power.

Plus, when doing like you are doing (as am I) with the 100% upvote to help more newer ones along, we see a greater impact if our VP is up. Again, giving them a vote at 1/5 what it could be doesnt serve them.

Discipline was the hardest part when I first was able to help so many people, but I have honed in on my UPvoting and SP.

Yeah...now comes the part of giving all that SP away. I havent done a lot (nowhere near what @wwf did) but am making progress...just delegated my third batch out.

Just keep passing it all on.....the compounding effect.

I did my third Golden Ambassador over the weekend and we announced it today. Hoping to keep adding a new one once a month now.

I don't let my VP drop below where it can charge back up in 24 hours. With the Debate Forum and the Stewards of Terra Mater, I want my vote to be as high as possible. But I also want to reward people for coming to visit and post meaningful comments on my posts as well. So does not give me much room to do much else. lol

I had 100% of my SP delegated yesterday, but I keep making more steem each day and so now it is down to 99. 8% and it will keep dropping until I find yet another individual to delegate towards.

We really are rewarded when we give. :) <3 Bravo to the two of you for working it through and paying it forward! whoooohooooo

It has taken some thinking to get to delegate to people. I was nervous, as you both know, but now I am good with it.

My plan is to keep doing what I'm doing, keep moving forward and upward and adding a new delegate every month so I can have 12 people in 2018, guiding and assisting new steemians.

Bravo! Good for you!

Young lady, you do a lot more than that. The @qurator account showers the platform with incredible upvotes that are extremely encouraging and you should be very proud. It's people like you that are essential for user retention...

Thank you! I am constantly on steemit looking for new members and quality posts. I love what I do for qurator and being a SOG for @fulltimegeek has been such a whirlwind experience.

Wow he called you "young lady".

That means I am a "young man" also. 😁

well, I am 49.. and have five grandchildren. Not so young here!

Hahaha, you're both young and enthusiastic in the eyes of all Steemians!

Right on your heels at 48...

I appreciate your mixed approach and the fact that you are supporting people who are trying to reach 1000 SP. This is the goal to which I aspire. I believe that this is the main goal to which every newcomer should strive. It is with 1000 SP that a serious "game" begins.
It's great support and you're doing a good job.
Whenever I reach 1000 SP, I will also encourage young users. After all, as the wise saying goes: "when we give - we get"
Thank you for your good informative article.

1000 SP will be serious money at some point in my estimation. That is why I felt it a figure that is important to get to. Those with 1K SP will easily have 100K at some point...potentially $1M if things go right.

Thank you for your support.

I agree with you, before I was engaged in investing in US stocks, but now I switched more to Steemit and crypto-currencies. I look at things from the position of the investor (long-term investor). In my opinion, STEEM is an asset that manifests itself and constantly invests in the Steemit and increase the power of the voice - this is promising

The returns in crypto are much greater and going to create enormous wealth over the next couple years. I agree that STEEM appears to be one that will be a total winner. The potential is absolutely sensational. We could well see 4 figures off this.

If that happens, everyone who is active on here now will be a very happy camper.

Time is the ally...use it to build up as many tokens as possible.

I agree with your words, time is our ally and the most important resource of any person. We must use time and invest wisely.
That's why some of the money earned here, I spend on increasing the power of voice.
Now my voice is small, but I will work further (to create content and comments) that would speed up the process of increasing the strength of voice.
Thank you

It is neat to see the problems that the people have with alot of steem power. When you are just getting started all you can think about is "man it would be nice to have a vote that was worth something" but when you get there i can see from your post life doesn't get easy it gets more complicated. Very informative post.

It seems like you and I are doing many similar things. I come from the "spreading the wealth" camp but during these last ~11 days or so, when I've been trying to recover some VP, I have started to upvote less content, but with a higher percentage.

This week's report by Asher will probably look different than the previous ones... But I'm totally fine with that. Because, even if I continue to "spread the wealth" like I did prior to the VP recovery, the votes will still be worth more than before. So it's a win/win either way. At least to me.

Many different ways to approach it @hitmeasap.

That is what is wonderful about it all...there is no single way to approach it. Some prefer hitting up a ton of people which will motivate them while others like to lay a nice big fat up vote only on a few people. It all works out in the end....

As long as we are using our VP, we are spreading the wealth.

That is very true. I'm still trying to find "my way" so to speak and I'll shortly start to delegate my own SP to "pay it forward" and to help others to grow a little bit. I will probably give them a few higher percentage upvotes on a daily basis or so too, to help them grow a little bit faster. I mean, the end game for me here, or the dream scenario, is to pay it forward and help others, so they can help others too in the future.

@taskmaster4450...bro i every time used to up vote 100% ...After getting delegation I had now access to the slider and my 5% vote would add a few more cents and I could share the love more. I upvote about 60 -80 votes a day from various red fish and planktons.
i still upvote by 100% for posts that are really exceptional and have made a decent amount because it often curated. More than the upvotes I also leave comments praising their work.
My goal is to really increash my SP that even 1% would give rewards so that I can vote more and make a difference when I look down a 100% person vote that I gain a follower. Win-win for both of us.thank you for sharing with us...

@taskmaster4450, you never stop to bowl me over with your very informative and educative posts. Where would I have gotten this whole information from? This voting power stuff had always had me confused. I am always finding it very difficult to build my VP to 100% , but it seems I have been over doing things. Thanks so much sir.

I am glad I can help @edith4angelseu.

You will get the hang of all this....you are a valued member here also...I appreciate all your commenting on here.

thanks for the post. I have found myself upvoting my comments too much and it feels kind of weird. I like your approach very much as it lets your post or comment speak for itself. I understand upvoting your own post to get the ball rolling and it makes sense if you made it, you should normally believe that it is good content. I think upvoting comments should be left to the community like you said. Cheers.

500 SP before I get access to the slider! oh oh, long ways away... Thanks for your post though, I look forward to earning my spot here on Steemit

I'm an artist and about 3 weeks deep on this platform, would you be willing to give me some feedback and/or tips on my account?

Thanks and best wishes,

Elephant sanctuary.jpg

Informative as always!! I will link it to the prompt post as well. I see a lot of the freewriters are commenting on your articles. I like it!!!

This is so kind of you . I am one month old in this platform . I have only seen flag wars between whales till now . The minnows who comment on one whales post , gets downvoted by enemy whale . The environment is somewhat becoming toxic .This issue has made it's way to the trending page . This is making some newbies skeptic of this platform . But i have also seen some whales like you who encourage minnows to express their thoughts . You are spreading a positive energy on this platform . Thanks for posting !

Personally I vote pretty willy nilly, its hard for me to stick to any sort of plan or numbers. However I never let my vp get down past 60 and I let it recharge if I had a curation frenzy that day haha. I prefer to upvote quality content at full power, and also support newbies with small upvotes regularily too.

I try to balance investing in sp with taking money out for life.
I also dont mind upvoting my quality posts, but never have really upvoted my comments. I agree with you that its up to others to judge my comments! I know for a fact I put lots of effort into my posts however!

I absolutely love this giving economy we have here! It is so natural and so easy in the way this ecosystem is set up. I hope it spreads far into the physical world and we all start to encourage and reward each other for giving selflessly!

I tend to vote 15% for most people I regularly vote on. For some people whose work I'm specifically trying to support I vote between 50 and 100. I try to keep my VP at 85 and above.

I'll be glad when I build my SP up further. At that point I will cut my regulars down some while still maintaining the same STU amount. This will leave me more VP for smaller authors I want to support.

This is a hard road but it will be worth it in the end.

Thanks for the post.

Keep Steeming!

Yes it is difficult to cut back...there is a lot of quality content on here and the inclination is to upvote everyone. That will only lead to decreasing the voting power.

There are so many advantages to powering up one's SP it is amazing. There is no way to convey this until someone really does it for themselves. Then they realize all the benefits to it.

Great post and tnx for sharing your insights. I vote mostly on posts that I learn something, but I have no rules. Being a minnow, I did not go deep into - what is best approach, just enjoying the ride.

I know only 10 votes at that percentage, I must confess I lose count here and there, thats why your right about the micro and macro strategies of voting, im getting familar with Busy. .thanks.
I upvote Baby Plankton smaller than I, knowing now I really wont see anything from it but I was rewarded by something they said or taught me that prompted my vote, thats automatic. Yet I can't do that all the time.

Now that Im getting more familiar with the platform,
Steemit is learning curb, especially if you wish to make it here.
Impressive share.

I would like to do what you do, but the problem right now for me is the voting percentage slider not showing. I think it should be there even for lower SP users on steemit (409.654 STEEM
is not that low).
And no, I don't enjoy other platforms like Busy etc. :P

Problem fixed....

A slider bar for one who is sometimes naked.

OMG I just upvoted you 99% !! :D
thanks!

Thank you..I am honored that you chose me to break your slider bar cherry with.

Feels good doesnt it. 😁

On your way to 1,000 SP now.

No @julienbh...it isnt that low.

I don't know why they do that...it is something that was put in by steemit.com...I never saw the reason as to why...

I did see many suggest that it should be changed.

Especially with the rise of steem.. 500 steem is worth a LOT nowadays

In my opinion 500 STEEM is not worth much in compared to what it will be worth.

Hang on, you havent seen anything yet.

We will see a massive explosion in STEEM once it starts to get on people's radar. So far, most people, even in the crypto world are not aware of it.

A poorly disguised attempt to create artificial demand for Steem amongst newcomers, lol.

Nice post taskmaster. Informative and easy to follow throughout!

Since steemit doesn't give me the choice of deciding the percentage, I just make sure that my upvotes are given to good content. I know my upvote doesn't make any difference as of now, but I am sure it will soon!

To me the idea of upvoting is the same as encouraging. The worthy ones need to be encouraged! And I just go with that principle.

By the way, I do have a question for you - how do I get into the 1KSP program??

It would be great to actually have the power that would make the difference and add value to community and world as a whole!!!

Any tips, suggestions or pointers from you would be deeply appreciated!!!

Take care!

Thank you for the comment @phoenix1947.

My suggestion is always the same to people who are starting out...

Comment, Comment, Comment.

Posting quality comments such as this will do a couple things for you. First, it will net you some additional SP since many on here will upvote quality comments (when my VP recharges, this comment will get an upvote). The second thing it does is that it allows others to get to know you. That is how you get a following. This is a social media site.

As for the 1KSP program....I havent done a post on that in a while since there are a few dolphins I know who are supporting people at the moment and trying to get them to that level. I will have to put one together here soon.

For now, you can add the most value doing what you are doing...participating, asking questions, commenting, and adding in an additional article here and there.

That is what I found works well.

Thank you for the response and tips! I will surely continue adding value with whatever I can!

I will be waiting for your 1KSP post as well, since that would definitely help me and others!

Have you ever bought steem, or is it all earned on the platform?

A lot of people seem to be investing in it as well. Is that a good idea?

Secondly, are there any good forums where I can meet like minded people, and also people who like to create new things on the platform or otherwise??

It would be great to have your insights on these topics!

Tc

I have bought STEEM to power up...did it over a 3 or 4 month period.

Yes a lot are investing in STEEM because we believe this will be much bigger in the future. There is a lot going on with the blockchain which should make the tokens very valuable. It is my biggest holding right now...I even rolled some of my holdings out of BTC, ETH, and LTC into this (and BTS).

I foresee $100 STEEM by end of year...but that is just my forecast...you will have to do your own research.

As for forums, I am not sure...just keep searching around on here, you will find those you identify with.

Although I will say they are adding a community feature on here which should help with that you are asking about.

Thank you my friend!

I wouldn't dare ask you how much you bought. :)

I honestly dont remember...I bought in different blocks....the price was between $.85 and $2.00.

Plus hard to figure out in dollars since I was often converting BTC to STEEM....

Needless to say I find STEEM to be a worthwhile option for many....I think there is a lot of money to be made.

And one advantage, it does help your SP which will increase your return when you vote....

So buying in, essentially, makes you a more valuable member of the community.

Thank you for sharing this taskmaster!

I know I would never get it at that price now, but I will try to invest some in the platform. I do agree that it will go a long way from here!

Will look forward to your support in future as well! Tc.

Preach! Early on my career in Steemit the first group that I joined demanded that everyone upvote and resteem each others post without fail daily even if we did not like the content.

This perpetuation of circle jerking each other meant running our VP ragged and since we were new doing 30-40 upvotes a day meant that our VP would be zeroed out.
It didn't matter of I would post 2 or 3 votes and some would post 5-7 different challenges posts. All must be upvoted and confirmed by everyone. Failure to do so meant expulsion. This left me unhappy because I couldn't reward content that I liked because my vp was always low. After voicing out my concern and not agreeing to their rules I promptly left and never looked back.
My votes were mine again and I could choose who I gave it to l usually have it at around 70-80 percent and I would vote from time to time to give it a chance to recuperate.busy and esteem was not known to me yet at that time.

After getting delegation I had now access to the slider and my 5% vote would add a few more cents and I could share the love more. I upvote about 60 -80 votes a day from various red fish and planktons.
i still upvote by 100% for posts that are really exceptional and have made a decent amount because it often curated. More than the upvotes I also leave comments praising their work.
My goal is to really increash my SP that even 1% would give rewards so that I can vote more and make a difference when I plop down a 100% person vote that I gain a follower. Win-win for both of us.

Excellent, for months I was voting 100% on all content and comments and my SP came down to 30%, because I vote many times and many different people. However, thanks to a delegation from @dmwh, in a few days I was able to recover a large part of my SP, since it allowed me to reach SP 500 in order to use the voting bar. I will try to buy Steem when the market goes better for me, and thus increase my SP faster.

Yes @vieira.

Getting to that 500 SP plateau, however you get there is a big deal....having the slider bar really can make one more effective.

My strategy is simple due to the fact that I don't have a slider yet

  • not more than 20 upvotes a day
  • only upvote aticles which deserve it (in my opinion)
  • upvote replies to my post or comments if they are not spam (or if the person has upvoted their own comment or reply)
  • try to up-vote at least one newcomer a day(based on shared interests)
  • dont upvote my own comments

Hell yeah. I can't wait to have access to the slider. I personally don't mind not having one now considering how low my votes are worth, I'd rather give votes that make somewhat of a contribution to the people who deserve it.

Can't wait to have one, though, so I can spread them out a lot more! Thanks again

If I get a lot of voting power, I will also upvote at least 100 to 500 people daily (maily small guys) using steemvoter.com . Good post indeed...

What is STU and KSP? Can you give a common
example for each in use, so I understand? Everything else made good sense to me.

STU=Steem Token Unit

That is really what is shown when you look at any post...it isnt in dollars they use the dollar sign.

Thus $1 equals 1 STU. If one opts for the 50/50 payment, it works like this.

1 = 50% SBD 50% SP (or 50 cents apiece).

Since 1 SBD = $1 (the face value) one gets .5 SBD

Yet SBD is $7.50 right now....meaning .5 SBD gets you $3.75 worth of STEEM.

Add the $3.75 worth of STEEM to the $.50 STEEM (from the 50/50 split) and you get $4.25.

So right now $1 STU is worth $4.25.

1KSP = 1000 Steem Power

Thank you so much.

Upvoting has been a mystery to me since I started. I noticed when I started that they were worth money, but I didn't know about curation. After I knew about curation, I figured that I'd try to make my votes as meaningful as possible, since they must be at 100% power on Steemit. I wish that Steemit gave you the VP slider initially, as I think it would benefit everyone.

This is insightful - yeah I see that you've given yourself a lovely ten dollars for this post and wow I really can't blame you because I certainly would as well. Although I agree when it comes to upvoting a comment that you made it seems tripe and silly. When it comes to the politics of upvotes I'm really quite confused, even though your insights have assisted me I still wish I could fully comprehend voting power and upvotes, etc....
Even earlier today I couldn't post a comment because I didn't have enough SP. How bothersome! I've invested some USD into SP but it seems not enough to even make a dent. Thanks again for your insights and I did sign up for the manna coins...

Thanks for the comment @lonestarpoet.

The reason you couldnt post is you nuked your bandwidth. Everyone has bandwidth based upon their SP.

Here you can see it on the left...you are actually negative at the moment.

Well I need to quit nuking myself! I also heard there was a lot of Ddos going on yesterday.
thanks 4 that link much appreciated

I’ve been going hard here on Steemit for a number of months now, and I’m figuring out being generous and spreading the wealth around as best you can is a great way to get noticed!

It’s never bothered me if someone upvotes their own stuff. Who cares? They’re not my upvotes. I upvote my own blogs. MYOB is my attitude on that.

I usually vote the posts I like to comment, and the people who makes comments on my posts.

I think it’s good for us to spread our votes so we can reach more people, because otherwise we would create voting circles that I don’t think are healthy for the long term growth of the platform.

The guy receiving 100% votes from you is super lucky! I know him from the poker community, nice fellow for sure :D !

I'm not at the magical slider number yet so all my votes are at 100% power, and I haven't given a lot of thought yet into what my strategy will be. That said, the strategy you use seems similar to my own philosophy. I will upvote good, thoughtful comments on my blog, and I upvote those things I find which I enjoy and appreciate. I do try not to run my voting power down too far (after running it down under 30% at the beginning of my journey here on Steemit), and will typically begin to slow my voting as my VP drops near 80%. Otherwise I haven't given it much thought other than supporting those who support me, simply because I don't yet have enough power to split my vote into anything other than 100%.

That is very smart @moneyinfant.

I think most of us are guilty of running out voting power down in the beginning. It is the natural thing to do. Hell, I even got blasted a couple times for running out of bandwidth when I first started.

I see a lot of dolphins who do what you did...it still amazes me....I can see why it happens since they have a large following and they want to keep their followers happy so they use the voting bots to do that. Yet they are operating at a low percentage, giving little more than a dolphin.

I guess it all works in the end but for me, I like give a .60 STU upvote for quality comments. I just wish it was higher.

I think any of us who really appreciate our followers wish it could be more. All I can say is that in the future, as STEEM continues growing in value, I believe it will be significantly more. You already make quite a difference for a lot of people, and that should only become more powerful as the platform grows.

And yeah, I got blasted for low bandwidth a couple times when I first started. Made me stop for a day just to let the VP recuperate.

I have noticed that many of those who regularly comment on my posts are getting increasing SP....that makes me happy. I know it is not all me, but it does help to know that I am aiding in accounts pushing upward.

Over time it all builds and I am glad to help when and where I can.

I have to say I've certainly benefited and it makes me quite happy to see the increased SP and the increased voting power that I can then share with others.

It is rather simple: the more powerful you become, the more powerful I become: the more powerful I become, the more powerful you become. The system on here creates this magical circle.

I hope to keep doing my part to help it move up.

The more you grow, the better it is for all of us on here.

Magnificent article. You described in detail about different voting methods. Each of these methods has a deserved right to exist. I'm glad I'm part of the initiative from @fulltimegeek. Thanks for doing Steem - Better. Good luck to you and Good. Resteem.

Resteem.

Still new to Steemit here, but I view every "upvote" as a bit of positive karma. Like, if you have 10 votes a day, why not spread a little positive energy if you can? Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on the matter. As for upvoting one's own content, I can see why that might be controversial for some. I think that for people coming from Facebook and other platforms, there is a belief that upvoting one's one content is a way to generate "momentum" for the post, and not necessarily a way to game the rewards system. I think it's a matter of human psychology -- if you see a lonely post with no comments, no upvotes, you are much more likely to pass right on by. But if you see a like, a heart, an emoji - well, anything! - you are much more likely to consider leaving something behind. thanks for the insights!

Hahahaha, as you can tell from an earlier discussion, I've also blended the two... but the wrong way.... giving out lots and lots of 5% votes but also way too many 100% votes too. It's challenging because there really is an incredible amount of great content here that I wish I could reward better.

I know I just need to be patient and my dolphin-y time will come... I really like the system as it is... you have the choice to spend a lot of time or a little bit of time... it's a great system, that took me a couple of weeks to understand.

There maybe that will help you get to your goal a little quicker...I like round numbers and 1000SP is better than 711.

Now protect that VP...

WHOA!!! Wow, that's incredible! Thank you so much!

I'm a massive fan of round numbers as well... so I honestly couldn't be more excited about your generosity! Thank you.

I'll definitely get this VP back under control now... thank you!

No problem...you are a valued member of this community and I appreciate all the input that you give to my posts with your comments and support of others.

This site is craving more people who are interactive.

It's honestly very easy.... your posts are often about the bigger picture which I find inspiring and you're always positive which offsets the negative you often find on the platform, even if it should be a place of joy because we're all making money to do something really fun. .

I always get excited when I see your post on my feed... and I'm loving Presearch.

I've got a lot more people to bring onto this platform and your help today will help me look after them. Thank you.

Good luck bringing people to the platform. I hope you have better success than I did. I introduced a number of people to it yet few took me up on the offer. And those that did, only one is doing much on here.

It seems like people reject the idea of making money...especially in a different way than they are accustomed to.

Thank you... the people I'm going to target are all content creators who need extra money to fly around doing ninja competitions... so I'm hoping to be fairly successful... but retention is absolutely the key... and generous upvotes will help that a lot.

I agree on the self voting. I occasionally upvote my own comments but it is for visibility only. Especially for thank you comments because I want the op to see I am grateful.

Keep up the good work homie.
STEEM to $1,000!

STEEM to $1,000! From your keyboard to whatever makes that come true.

We will get there....just need to have some patience (not my strongsuit at this point). The development is going very well on here and the user base expanding. Another couple months like this and we will see liftoff....not quite to $1K as of yet but start moving in that direction.

I am excited for $20 STEEM....I want to see that in the next 90 days.

I feel that the best way to consistently use your VP is by using services like steemvoter, even though some people don't like it.
Automatically upvoting the people you follow gives them steady rewards even though you might no be able to login that day or even week. Of course I still manually vote but I let steemvoter vote on the people I usually follow.

Yes @calatorulmiop.

An upvoter can really make life easier and enable one to support those he or she feels worthy.

There is nothing wrong with it since, most likely, the people you are putting on there are ones you deem to be quality contributors.

You are on my autovote list for this reason TM - not seen a bad one yet 😁

Great to hear your standing point on votes. The trek to 1000SP is helped along quite nicely with your comment upvotes!

I prefer to have people dropping by to my posts regularly rather than just seeing somebody swing by and drop a heavy vote on it. Having continuous support is nice, even if it is just a 0.20-0.50 upvotes on most articles.

The consistency matters.

writing a good friend, I also had read this @abh12345 post about @fulltimegeek. this is indeed me interesting for us, because our sp beginners are very few and I also commented that it feels like the SP delegation even though it is impossible given. thank you, I am very happy to use the esteem application created by @ good-karma and also the busy.org created by @ fabien with his partner. thanks for the knowledge of friends.

I got to my slider yesterday! I've not yet quit 100% upvoting (I'm on holidays anyway, so reading less) but I think I will start upvoting comments on my blogs from now on, since I can do this with something like 10%, so I won't blow up all my VP too fast. Until now I didn't upvote people leaving comments on my posts since I wanted to upvote great articles. (I read so many here!) - Anyway, interesting post, and will have to see what it will change in my upvoting strategies.

Upvote that is everyone hope it....
How about me....

thanks for this, that will help me to understand this
