When you are being hyped it has a way of boosting your ego. I think this is the reason why most people employ hype men.
Everybody has an ego and in one way or the other will like to grease the ego for it to function properly and one good way to grease or lubricate your ego is to be hyped. When a man is being praised he tends to do what he couldn't do on a normal day. And this act has been right for ages.
I remember visiting one ancient palace standing next to the king sitting on the throne is a hype man although they don't call them hype man but the work they do is the same as a hype man. They eulogize the king before he starts to talk and almost at each statement he made and this made him speak with some level of dignity and confidence.
And this happens to everyone at one point or the other even at one level of influence to another. That is why when you call a man by his name without putting some of the qualifications he has acquired (like Dr, Prof, Hon., etc) he gets furious.
The funniest part is that this doesn't leave anybody out. People may decide to hide it so they won't be called a proud person but it is inherent. That is how we are made. Whenever our ego is being massaged we tend to go from ordinary to extraordinary.
