The first time she walked arm in arm with Ramiro, wearing his impeccable military uniform, she felt so proud that it was almost time for the borders of her dress to burst from being as swollen as her chest was, quite developed by the work and art of nature. . It was not the first time that she thought about the incredible resemblance between Ramiro and that fantastic American actor who was the protagonist of the movie Gone with the Wind, which she had had the opportunity to see in the cinema years ago. What was it called?. Gary Cooper? No, something like Clark. That is!. Clark Gable! They looked so much alike, in her opinion, that if you put the two of them side by side, it would be very difficult to tell who was who.
Although it was winter, that Sunday morning the sun was so beautiful and pleasant that she invited them to go for a walk even if they didn't feel like it. Probably for this reason, the surroundings of the Estanque del Retiro were so frequented by the people of Madrid. There were also many fifths like Ramiro, who strutted about proudly, no doubt influenced by the charisma that wearing a military uniform represented with ease. They could be seen in all weapons and colors: the blue uniform of the Aviation men; Navy white; the beige of the bodies of Earth. Even the pearly green of the African corps of the Legion, with its short jacket, mid-calf boots and cap on which a red tassel swung merrily, which, when it lost all momentum and stood still, reached the man to the tip of the nose, as if it were a bot that had landed on it. Some had the top buttons of their shirts undone, displaying with banal arrogance the kinky hair on their chests. A behavior typical, in her opinion, of the typical fanfare of the bride and groom of death, who staunchly defended the last remnants of Spanish colonialism in Africa.
It was impressive to see them, it must be said. But Maruja had no doubts that she would not trade Ramiro for any of them. Her Ramiro, outside of all speculation, was decidedly special. That was something that his bosses had realized in time, assigning him to offices. Fortunately, that circumstance also had the implicit advantage that he had fewer guards, except for the fact that he had to perform one every fifteen days to comply with protocol.
Being a native of Madrid, they would soon give him the overnight pass, with which he could eat and sleep at home every day that he did not have service. "And it is that Ramiro is so special -she never tires of repeating herself-, that he is lucky even for that".
