There's a large monkey tree around here. They're so cool.
They are -- I found out while at the botanical garden that monkey puzzle trees get their name from a comment someone made upon seeing them for the first time: "It would puzzle a monkey to figure out how to climb that tree!"
It has a curious shape and grows so tall and spiky. It would be a feat trying to climb one, so that name is apt.

3:45 AM. We should be at the peak of the #eclipse. The moon is almost all red, with only one side remaining lighter.
The moon never becomes fully red, there is always a slight lighter area.
*Reading my own reply again, I sound rather abrupt... but that was unintentional.
Kudos for staying up to witness the event. We had an overcast and rain, so no luck.
Between clouds and light pollution, I have missed all the major auroras over the past couple years, so I was glad an astronomical phenomenon was visible here for once.
Aurora is definitely on my bucket list. You must be residing far enough north (or south) to witness (or miss 😉) those... but luckily the eclipse is much easier to anticipate and see anywhere in the world. Ive seen many over the years.
Almost at the Canadian border in the Pacific Northwest. I drove east to see the solar eclipse a while back, and I've caught a couple lunar eclipses before.
Thats a beautiful area to live in! I never been there, but i have clients who are big hikers and thry sent me photos form those regions... id love to take my telesope up north and have a better look at the galaxies.
Mt. Spokane is the tallest point nearby, and might be a good summer observation point if they allow you to stay at the lodge overnight, but I think they close at dusk. You might try the Quartz Mountain Fire Lookout though.
3:05 AM #eclipse update: the moon is dim, and about half red. I had to take a few steps into the yard to see it, because trees were in the way.
