Yesterday I was reminded of an interesting conversation with @lrock back on the streets of Lisbon. He's currently working on a project called MetaSteem which showcases the power of Steem as a brand. There are really no other projects out there which inspires people to keep talking about it and creating stuff for it. It's all homegrown love and creativity.
Anyway, there was a part during our talk when Macromedia's Flash came up. I was a Flash-addict. I used to skip school just to learn javascript programming and animating vectors at home. So @lrock brought up the video below which used to be a big thing during the era of Flash. Something that I missed and probably many too. Made in 2004, it's about a fictitious entity in 2014 called the Museum of Media History talking back in time.
The shape of the future seems quite similar in the video above, right? Near, but not quite. @lrock came up with update after remembering about the above 2004 Flash video. The result is a more simplistic and probably more accurate one with the use of a cerebral, edgy track to go along with hundreds of Google-related videos. I think it's brilliant. Post-truth era and the end of journalism. Perhaps?
Now that you're experiencing a different kind of platform on Steem, does it feel like the Internet is bending back towards decentralisation and putting power back in your hands? Are there any giant monoliths feeding us information with automated feeds, content recommendations, and all that? Are those necessarily bad things anyway? In some ways, I could see blockchain technologies bringing something like EPIC to life, except more decentralised. Everybody contributes to the grid. Everybody earns along the way.
Some food for thought. What can we learn from nature when organising and building ecosystems? Our environments shapes our identities and the future, which in turns, feeds back into our environments. With blockchain technologies decentralising powers and information back to the people, will we just sit back and let the big boys build our reality, or do we do something about it? So back to the question posed by the Museum of Media History - how do you imagine the next 15 years of digital media? #epic2029
15 years is a hard time frame. More, or less, and I could be much more accurate.
It really depends on how fast the govern-cement tries to crack down.
Trying to control someone by "turning off their chip" will be met with self sustaining communities.
Trying to track every transaction will result in things like TOR being "soooo obsolete". Package, and packet rerouting. People actually creating false trails. $20 throw away computers being used to bounce things...
Trying to crack down on taxes will result in a gift economy the likes we have never seen. Sure, some cryptos may trade hands to make the exchange smoother, but what part of the coffee table is the IRS going to take as taxes?
And, trying to amp up all the control grids. The smart meters. Chipping everyone... What will happen is that the effects will not be felt by a few sensitive people, it will be whole groups of people. And they will be able to track it back to its source. Then there will be blowback. And further, there will come some real woo-woo tech to deal with it.
Last, there will be a scanner / sensor, that will sense who you are. You have a very specific electrical signature. And that can / will be used to identify you to all your wallets. But, this will also come about with a complete reversal of information flows. If people want to call you, they have to ask your permission. Everybody is blocked, accept who you let through. And that is the way it will be with all of your data.
Oh no, chipping! I forgot about that. Hopefully it isn't mandatory like vaccinations, etc.. Aside from tracking features in the chips, what about nanotech and possible influence via the chips. Nightmares......
Well, first the chips will be voluntary. Then they will say it is a good thing, if you want to be a good citizen, because only bad guys would not want to have one. Then it will be at gun point.
But, the reality is the govern-cements databases are bollux. They couldn't run this system. There are people who have stopped receiving SS, because they are dead. Dear govern-cement, fix that first, before trying anything harder.
Putting foreign items in your body does weird things. Especially one that is radio active. (As in, sends out radio waves) They have been working on bionic arms for people who have lost them, and they have found putting in metal items in the person causes interference from EMF, and the whole thing becomes bad. (and these are people that would really like it to work) So, chips, plus 5G is going to start having body overloading effects that are visible to normal people, instead of just ignoring all of the sensitive people that are complaining about things today.
I like that you ask the question of what we imagine in the next 15 years of digital media because we all in our own small and large ways will be creating it whether we realize it or not. Even if we're not consciously investing, where we put the precious commodity of our attention is what will grow. Asking ourselves and each other what we want to build, what we want to see happen is so important and putting our attention there.
I'd never seen the first video and it is pretty amazing! I like the google grid idea a lot and hope something like it comes about because like @steemmatt I'm very concerned with privacy.
Thanks for this thought provoking post!
What Steem is lacking atm is structure and I think communities and smts will help out with that in the future. Can't wait til stuff gets more organised and easier for the masses to work together in ways unimaginable now :)
yes I think you're right about that.
Probably will be social media bring forward and lot of activities doing though on internet services, Currently increase internet usage more than before 10 years usage. Have some information from digital media, unfortunately worst information using. For example Television channel held some good conversation suitable to community,so far more than showing non important conversations like as political, sexual etc.. things. Our important time wasted. TV channels watch all of families together. Its not suitable for children. Children brain washed by TV and Internet. Its terrible condition.
Other way, Digital media usage very best for communication each others any so far. In fact we can inform any emergency or valuable occasion to privileges. Also No require to go market, shops, banks for do our transactions. All of can provide though E-marketing & E-banking. Its doing cashless transaction bcoz safety our properties.
Digital media probably can be advantage also other way is worst. Better thing is Digital media controlling rights from peoples.
Great conversation @kevinwong. Resteemed your post.
So many routes to take here, but in short, I'm concerned that people are becoming desensitized to the loss of their privacy. Blockchain can help but also hurt when it comes to a digital paper trail of financial transactions. At this rate, future generations won't even know what the privacy some of us used to have is!
I'm also concerned about how malleable a portion of the public is to be manipulated by all of this instant digital information, social media influence of naive masses of "followers", and government/corporate abuse of such easy immediate access to millions/billions at a time.
False flags. Fake information. Profiling. People selling their rights for convenience. All of this worries me.
Legit concerns, although I wonder if it'll matter if people don't care about the news anymore. I think if the attention economy shifts to the blockchain, plenty of national concerns might not be so at the forefront anymore..
I honestly don't believe much of the mainstream news anymore. I haven't had cable for my TV in about 7 years and have no plans of it. Too much of a mind-numbing impact, commercials and filtered info that I want to avoid. The internet, depending on your sources, is becoming a lot of the same sadly.
Is that the answer? Cancer cells don't share and consume resources? Also, I believe that cancer cells simply are unrecognized by the human immune system, not that they don't share information. Happy to hear a rebuttal to this.
As for privacy, Steemit is a separate safehaven (relatively) for now. I was talking about other forms of digital media. I'm not sure if we're on the same page. Thanks for responding either way.
Of course. In time. We have such a small position in the marketplace, on top of being a cryptocurrency-based ecosystem, so it's essentially 2 foreign uphill battles to sell people on. In time, hopefully it catches on. It could take a few years though, but that's ok. We'll hopefully have some nice accounts built up by them to be good whales.
Steemit is Googlezon! In all seriousness, I do wonder how different our landscape will become as technology marches forward. These are exciting times for sure.
Your post is very good information. Personally, I think in the future, digital media will develop very far. Digital coin will probably come in a lot of our spending. Maybe people will use digital coin to buy products. There will be more media teaching online media. The phone will be essential in the work. Use of mobile applications to pay for merchandise. It is easy to say that everyone has to use technology to make everyday life almost 100% ever.
I think it'll happen as you've described :) I think coins will be close to social accounts which close to individuals..
I think it may be good for many people. But there will be confusion about the value of money different types. And with the money up all the time, people would not buy the same at different times. It must have been a lot of development.
I'm so excited to be living through this insanely strong digital revolution ! It's quite trippy to say the least but in 15 years I think we'll have a handful of currency's that are valued at a million+ and....maybe a bunch more Kim kardashians running around . Hard to say 😂
Just exciting to be at the front of the wave ;)
Ooohhhh I remember that! I was big on Flash back when its vulnerabilities weren't being abused by every hacker out there haha I used to love animating on it. Not that I was any good. The feel of doing it was just so great. The learning curve wasn't steep at all.
Yeah best app ever, I wish there’s an app equivalent for html 5!
WOW this is a great post. I watched all of the videos... Those are so informative that I didn't expect.. Through watching epic 2014-Museum of Media History, I could get to know about the great rivalry between microsoft and google...
I learnt a lot from this post... Thanks for sharing this post..
I think the next 15 years of digital media will be totally decentralized and will bring things unexpected to everyone...
Thanks a tonn for sharing...😊
I love that "circular economy"..it is very much possible and achievable in 15 yrs or even less if that's what people so desire. A combination of project venus and garden of eden, digitally and off-grid sustainance lifestyle.
Excellent post, in my opinions the future of digital media dependent upon humans trust and humans behavior, the things which peoples likes the most surely get's more growth, e.g back in 2010 no one knows about facebook, twitter and instagram but once there active users increases they suddenly becomes sort of viral things and now used world wide same case with bitcoin and now the steemit is also going great and i think steemit has a really bright future ahead and we surely see steemit a worlds No. 1 social media platform soon, Stay blessed and thanks for sharing
The loss of privacy is definitely a concern for the future. But I think people will start carring about that when they see the consequences of not carring.
if i was honest... i feel that the digital era is going bring the world to its knees in the next 15 years.. means the social life , nature and relations will all be subjected to the ONSLAUGHT by digital age and those resisting will be taken to task......
A good question, I think that digital media is increasingly entering our life and the further, the more will develop. But in my opinion, the ecosystem Steemit that, and it's good that we can take part in this process and it pleases. Thank you @kevinwong
Probably everything will be decentralized where facebook, whatsapp and firefox will be replaced by decentralized platform that pay its user
Our world was poorly designed indeed. Great vid.
the design was perfect... the trust upon the HUMANS to live n enjoy while in OBEDIENCE has been DESTROYED.....

this post is so informative @kevinwong ....
thanks for sharing
who know's what new will come by then
Hey @kevinwong your posts are great. Would you please check out my latest post I'd really appreciate your support. Thank you.
In the future we could see that we can make money by just interacting in any platform and it is just cool to think about that. We are in the road for it.
Not sure about the conspiracy-type narratives as I don't pay attention to any news these days. Just doing my own thing on the blockchain lol :)
