Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

Enrollment
As you can see, there are lots of ways that you can win free shares. If you don't want to wait, or you want to enter contests but also hold your own contests, enrollment couldn't be easier:
Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo. You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program.
I've had some questions about this again as STEEM and SBD keep trading places on which is stronger. The official currency of enrollment is STEEM. We accept SBD at our discretion (usually when they're very close, or when SBD is stronger) but you do not receive extra shares or a refund for paying in SBD instead. So use STEEM for a 'sure thing' enrollment, or use SBD and risk 'overpaying' or having your enrollment returned to you.
It's fine to send a list, but we prefer a comma after each name. If you send a list, please specify share amounts for each or we will assume equal distribution (e.g. 15 STEEM with 3 names means 5 shares each and 15 for you, unless you specify otherwise).
As we get close to automation for enrollments, we will tighten up the transaction memo guidelines, but we will make plenty of announcements. Please bear in mind that enrollments are currently processed manually, so there may be some delay before you receive confirmation or adjustment to your voting weights.

Hi steembasicincome, i certainly can clarify! I am a curator for upfundme
upfundme is a community on steemit where users can crowdfund for items and projects - as a community incentive I run a steembasicincome reward program - active upfundme users are entered into this program for being part of our community.
I looked at it and I'm still confused by the system.
Do one become a member with upvoting #upfundme posts? Or upvoting the mentioned posts from steembasicincome (so your post)?
Or do we have to start our own crowdfund? And how to start even one? What can be funded?
I could totally use a faq right now. 😂
Hi takowi, its is our community members running a upfundme crowdfund that are entered, however, those who regularly upvote my post can potentially earn more steembasicincome shares as once the list is complete for that month any remaining shares will be distributed at my discretion to those I feel have contributed.

Thanks for coming back to clarify. So it sounds this is an upfundme crowdfund to sponsor shares for anyone that runs an upfundme crowdfund.
So running an upfundme crowdfund gets you on the list, and then upvoting your upfundme crowdfund is what funds memberships for the people on the list?
It's a little complicated, but who am I to judge? Something about glass houses...
Thats exactly right, regular posters of upfundme crowdfunds will be entered on the list, and those who upvote my "Upvote Crowdfund - Community Steembasicincome" posts regularly may earn extra shares. General community contribution (ie upvotes on others upfundme posts) is also taken into consideration.
Its a pretty simple system right now but as upfundme grows it may be refined a bit.

That might be a little ambitious to crowdfund before April 13... but if you have a good backup plan you might get some upvotes.
We have members funding all sorts of things from drones to raspberry pi, cameras to motorhome parts! Charity funds may get more organic upvotes but almost anything can be crowdfunded;)

I like it. This is a very similar structure to the first contest we held to get the ball rolling.
I decided to put my modest recent winnings to good use, have a little fun, and promote SBI in a contest where you try to figure out the purpose of a piece of lab equipment (or, better yet, make up a great story about what it could be).

The upvotes will be on each of your posts, with your weekly weight adjusted based on your own posting frequency.
Thanks for sharing my post. I love how the community here is always willing to help each other out. So many ways to get free SBI shares and a good amount of them involve engagement with others, which I love seeing. I'm excited for the day automation comes onto SBI. It'll make your life easier. Thanks for all the hard work that you do.
It will indeed make my life easier, and then I can focus more on promotion and new features that move it closer to the goal of 'basic income'. (I have some great ideas up my sleeve, but automation needs to happen first.)

On another note is it still the case that we can double our shares with your service by voting for your posts on a regular basis. You are set up on my auto voting system.
Currently you can receive a bonus which increases the 'effective' shares that go into your upvote calculation. It's effectively doubling, if you get enough upvotes in. As we move into full automation, we will replace that with a new system that's even better. We will describe that in more detail as we get closer.
I just looked yours up, and your current bonus is 35.71% The goal to reach a full 100% is 28 upvotes in a rolling 28 days. Most members that rely on auto-voting systems are a little low right now, because I haven't been posting as many daily updates as I should. Upvotes on comments count too, but there is no need to upvote more than 28 times per month.

Keep in mind that we use your 28 day upvote history, refresh it every day, and you only need 28. So upvoting beyond a certain level won't help you immediately, and could set you up for a sudden drop in 28 days when the spree drops off your record.
No problem, steembasicincome is already set up on https://www.steemdunk.xyz, so posts should be autoupvoted with 100%. Keeping the voting history close to the 28. 👍
So with that running in the "background" and with upvoting comments here and then (I'm pretty sure I will still reply to content.) everything should be fine now.
Also, I'm only upvoting with 14 SP (red fish here), basically I'm getting way more back then I'm generating with those votes. Even with 28+ votes.
A totally another thing, because I'm curious: From a theoretical point of view, the calculation from the bonus shares seems only be based on the number of votes and the upvote weight. One account with, let's say 100 shares, would make a 3,8 Steem per week from steembasicincome over the course of 180 days. (Based on the ROI of 180 days with 100 Steem inital investment) To double his number of shares he would need to upvote 28 times with 100%. His return for those votes would be 3,8 Steem per week over four weeks. So in total roughly 15,555 Steem. He is getting basically 0,555 Steem per vote in return.
Smartsteem is paying 85% of a vote's value. So 5000 SP would generate (with data from now on https://www.steemnow.com/) a 0.67$ worth of upvote and Smartsteem should pay roughly 0,569 Steem per vote.
So the account would generate more income with selling those votes than with upvoting steembasicincome to get bonus shares. (unless he gets more steembasicincome shares, then it would need a higher amount of SP and so on) Ofc he could still upvote steembasicincome because he likes the content or he is generous, but the financial advantage is capped for a whale.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the bonus shares (Obviously 😁). And they are really good for red fish and minnows to get things going for them.
But I would like to understand the design choice behind that system, what was the intention?
It was a design choice based on the limitation of manual processes for calculation of the upvote weights each member receives. We are moving into a fully automated system soon, and it will have a better system for rewarding upvotes that will provide more incentive for members to upvote our material.
From what I have read, the added income from the upvotes also is used to increase the value of future votes, correct? So the added votes may not have an immediate impact, but long term it adds to the trailing income stream.

You will receive a transaction memo the first time you are enrolled. After that you will not, but you can check the list whenever you want.
In the future, we hope to start notifying members every time they are sponsored, but that's just too much to do before enrollments are fully automated.
@simplymike sponsored you and you are mentioned in sbi3 on the memberlist sheet (can be found here https://steemit.com/basicincome/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-membership-update-pulling-back-the-screen)
So you should receive, sooner or later, a 0.001 STEEM transfer with the memo "Your enrollment to Steem Basic Income has been completed.". The listing is done manually, so it naturally takes some time.
