Roger Ver Interview - Bitcoin, Hate, Jesus to Judas? Future

in #bitcoin6 years ago

Roger Ver is guesting us, which is awesome! Love him or hate him, the man has done a lot of good for bitcoin in the early days, however recently the Bitcoin community feels strong negativity towards Roger. Especially after the Bitcoin Cash fork. Why is it so? How does it feel? Is BTC team evil? Is Bitcoin Cash confusing new comers by pretending to be Bitcoin? Why did Craig Wright lie about being Satoshi?

My goal is to get to know Roger on a deeper level. Hope you are as excited as I am!

This video will probably get disliked a lot, but who cares.

Good Morning Crypto!

Well done @ivanli

I like @rogerkver - he is a honest guy with a l of passion for Bitcoin/crypto. If you know people you can tell that he is honest and passionate. Sure, you can disagree with him, but he makes some great points.

Ivan also deserves a lot of cred for doing a very good and professional interview. This is good for the space.

Hate on Roger all you want but he is right. Lightning Network may be a catchy name but it's a huge step backward. Bitcoin was intended to be a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Solving high transaction fees with off chain transactions on the Lightning Network sidelines the most fundamental principal of Bitcoin.

I don't know if I agree with everything Roger says, but I do think the hating on him is is a bit ridiculous and unproductive. Baiting is so low. That guy who got flipped the bird by Roger wasn't trying to establish a meaningful dialogue or understanding, and he ultimately did a discredit to himself and other people on his side of the debate. That kind of behaviour really is no way to solve these issues or figure out where Roger is coming from. Ivan is a fantastic interviewer. It did seem that Roger had something to learn from Ivan about the nature of a hard fork and its effects on a community. I think he was too nice to school Roger on air. I don't understand the technicalities a great deal, and that includes Lightning Network. I also do think that the lightning network appears to undermine some of the fundamental properties of Bitcoin, but I was wondering if you could explain in some more detail why this is the case though.

Lightning Network uses payment channels and centralized hubs to route off chain transactions that are never truly settled until the channel is closed. This not only violates the title of the White Paper but Satoshi's vision of an economic system without the need for third parties. "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System." Lightning Network disregards the peer-to-peer aspect of Bitcoin and for that reason is a fundamentally flawed solution.

Great video!
I have been watching it live! superb!

Roger Ver is being firm, and keep showing his strong believes into Bitcoin Cash, I respect that a lot. Also he (and his team) is a face of Bitcoin Cash.

But the whole negativity about Bitcoin, which coming from Roger V, and other his supporters, is kind of destroying the whole ethos of cryptos, liberty and so on. Because this has to be the space where people always have a choice, and no one is forcing them to choose one thing over another.

Another important moment is branding (name of Bitcoin Cash), where Roger Ver "borrowed" Bitcoin's brand, and implemented it in many areas (Bitcoin.com website, etc) which brings mass confusion, specially in users who just joined the crypto space recently :/

Agreed, and Ver’s shady practices of labeling bitcoin as bitcoin cash on bitcoin.com just adds fuel to the fire.

There is a big difference between passion and arrogance, he crosses the line way to many times. He really is a child and has proven that he cannot take any form of critisim.

I only remember the positive value that has been given, and only this time I heard negative news for him about bitcoin cash, and the sacrifices that have given us results from the beginning will not fade.
thank you for clarifying. @ivanli

I did in fact smash the dislike button but only because i don't like Roger Ver.
However i have to say that your interview with him was truly professional and fair. great interview. A big thumbs up for that.

Hi Ivan.

Thanks a lot once again for this very informative video as always.

I was never such a big fan of Roger Ver do be honest. In my eyes he is just a Bitcoin Core hater and wants to pump his BCash all the time and BCash is in my eyes by far too much centralized anyway.

For me the scaling debate is not just about block size and I think calling BCASH bitcoin is just plain shady. However I have to say Roger made some interesting points so it was a very interesting talk.

I'm glad you had Roger on, I think he makes a lot f very good points. Mainly that Bitcoin HAS to be used in commerce in order for it to be valuable long-term and I couldn't agree more. If BTC continues to be expensive and slow it will not have a good future, and I'm far from convinced that the lightning network will ever be as quick and easy as the on chain alternative.

Sorry dude, I love your work but I cannot watch that bellend, we need South Park to do an episode on him, maybe let mr garrison have it him Mr hat.

“babies are literally dying”

Piss off Ver and when is it your turn for that to happen.

Great topic selection and effective explanation @ivanli

Good info, as always. Great work. And I like Roger Ver's Santa Klaus analogy for scaling. Its hard for Bitcoin Core to serve all the kids on xmas eve...

Gave up on the video I can't listen to Ver any more he's a broken record bitcoin cash is not the future maybe if it didn't have such an egomaniac at the helm it would have worked.

If the hardware had been about 20 years more advanced in 2009, we probably would have never had the scaling debate and had gone to 1+ GB blocks with no problems. But due to bandwidth limitations, such an increase to spread mass adoption to several billion people would increase latency and lock out average users from participating in block confirmation (we are already locked out of mining unless we join mining pools).

I've been developing software for over 2 decades now. We have LN, but it needs massive improvements in usability if it's ever to solve the scaling problem. Hodling both just in case.

@ivanli professional interview solid content as usual, appreciate you putting this together brother. Good to see some different questions asked. I think it is going to be very interesting to see how things pan out over the coming 24 months or so. I do agree with @rogerkver on some points regarding BCH. The fees are much lower and can be used like Bitcoin originally was back in the day, something I miss. Only time will tell what happens. In the mean time all we can do as a community is stay focused on the things that matter. Finding blockchains that can be used right now and be of benefit to us in our daily lives. In my opinon those are the true winners and ones with value. Steem in my opinion is set up to be a better cash system than most blockchains. With SMTs coming we will be able to tokenize many more applications across the internet. There are possibilities we have not even thought of yet. With that said, I do see a world where Bitcoin and Steem can coexist.

It is my belief that BCH is more in line with the original white paper than BTC. The idea that LN is based on a corporate owned patent does not seem in line with open source either, in my opinion.

Luckily my crypto stratigy is that of a HODLer, so my BTC and BCH (except for the amount to buy my Minnowhood) await the dust to settle on this debate. 😎

Wow this is so educative thank you for always teaching us because the world needs blockchain and crypto currency

It is so great that many big personalities in the space are so willing to express their opinions in public these days, and even debate one another. Learning a lot.
