Fellow Hivers, Help Me, Help YOU ~ #communities

in #communities3 years ago (edited)

About a month ago, I created a Community here on Hive. You see, I am part of a FB group called The Crunchy side of MN & Western Wisconsin.

Wtf is crunchy you ask???

Well, it means a lot of things. The grand base is that people who call themselves crunchy are more or less traditional or self sufficient kind of people.

There are homesteaders, farmers, homeschool families, holistic healers, etc. Most of them are for a natural way of living compared to 40 hours in a cube and running the rat race.

If that didn't sum it up for you very well, try this:

Crunchy is generally a term used to describe a type of parenting style. Although I hardly think that it needs to solely apply to parents. I believe someone without kids can be crunchy as well; they just won’t be practicing some of the crunchy areas that apply to those with children.

Being crunchy usually means that the person is someone who doesn’t just go with mainstream ideas and philosophies simply because everyone else does.

Now that is not to say that someone who is crunchy doesn’t do mainstream things, sometimes mainstream works. However, it means that (usually) crunchy people are notorious for researching their hearts out.

We spend hours reading books, talking with others, and scouring the Internet. Basically we don’t want to do something because everyone else is, we want to research all the options and then make the best decision.

To get to the long and short of it, Crunchy people have adjusted the way they live to be more natural.

source

Did that sum it up better? I hope so.

What I like most about people who are crunchy, is that there is very rarely shaming and or disrespect towards someone with a different view point, unless of course that view point is trying to be made mandatory.

Some crunchy people just want to homeschool their kids and could care less about GMO foods. Some think v*x's can be safe and there are others who would never touch them. Some want to work the land and be left alone, others want to live in a city and be able to shop at the farmers market down the street.

It's a wide range of people with different ideas, but the principle remains the same...you do you and I do me.

So why am I writing this???

Well, I have had zero luck trying to convince the leader of this FB group to even write me back. But then again, if I were her, I'd probably look at the community page I created and think "There's nothing here, wtf is this? I'm not going to recommend all my group to go to this Hive thing. We already have Parler and Mewe."...and she'd be right.

I didn't make the page so I could pump out tons of content, I just wanted to make an easy home for like minded people here on Hive. This demographic of people are ripe for the picking. With a lot of people already here on Hive who I would maybe call crunchy, I think we would be a nice welcome for the people leaving FB and the like.

So here is what I am asking of YOU!

If you write about homesteading, cooking, food, homeschooling, learning, natural medicine, health tips, veganism, my body my choice style politics, or anything else that fits the crunchy genre, please, please, PLEASE, just include the tag EC which stands for everything crunchy.

And/or! Post directly on the community page or crosspost to the community for the posts to show up there.

I know there are specific communities out there right now, but I figured an umbrella group would be a good way to build up some content and be more diverse to accept more people than trying to pinpoint one demographic.

So fellow Hivers, help me, help you, bring more talented people to this wonderful blockchain so we can all flourish together.

Thanks for your time and attention. Hive on.

Also, a link to the EC community page.

Tagging people who I think could help out :)

Good morning @intothewild. You got me, I am in. #EC, #evertything crunchy. I think there are lots of peeps out there that are EXTRA crunchy, I may be one of them. My brain is already churning, this is gonna get interesting!

Good morning to you @farm-mom! I love and appreciate your shared enthusiasm. Did you already have your coffee this morning???

4 hours ago woulda been about 3am NY time if I'm not mistaken? What in the world are you doing up at that time young lady?!?

Now there's a story. Well @thebigsweed 's clock is getting a little twisted. With him, almost always outdoors, in the cold, which he loves, me not as much, he comes in, devourers my lovingly prepared food than sits down finally, he always says 'let's watch a movie together.' Ok, but then within minutes falls asleep. Sometimes as early as 7:30pm. Ok, but I stay up and watch the show. Then I fiddle around the house doing stuff. I don't fall out until 10 0r 11. BUT by 3am, he is rested. Ready to go. He brews the coffee and as soon as I smell that delicious aroma, I am up also. Hence, my early morning dive into the #hive world. Needless to say, by 10am I was napping.
Screw it, I am retired, and life goes happily along.😊

What do they say ????
Come on now, you've got to get this one, one more correct answer and you'll have the 3 correct answers you need to win the big prize.

Lets not forget some of the things that go on during those early morning hours that you would miss if you were to be lying around in bed.

ie: yesterday's early morning sky had you walking very briskly down to the corner in your PJs and slippers to capture the start of a new day.

IMG_5371.JPG

Early to bed, early to rise?
ORRRRR
Is it the early bird catches the worm?
It's gotta be one of those.
Did I win?

Oh man that morning sky was awesome. but I should have put my boots on, I got so excited I didn't want to miss it. It was worth some soggy slippers. hehehehehehe

Winner winner, chicken diner. And the correct answer is, the early bird catches the worm sunrise.

Please excuse my tardiness!

he always says 'let's watch a movie together.' Ok, but then within minutes falls asleep. Sometimes as early as 7:30pm. Ok, but I stay up and watch the show.

This is the same for me and the wife, but opposite. She'll find a great movie for us to watch, and within 10 minutes she's got her head on my shoulder, out like a light. But I still stay up and watch it. Then the next morning I have the job of filling her in on the whole movie, lol.

You two were clearly meant for each other. Early sunrises are the best.

Hello and good morning. I used to work 2nd shift at the hospital, so I come alive at around four. Back when I was working I was glad to go, I spent my days with the kids, once @thebigsweed got home I shot out the door. I liked my work, but it was great to talk to adults. hehe
The hubby and I are like peas and carrots, just like Forest and Jenny.😃
Have a great day, nice to hear from you. I will give you a pass on the tardiness, having little ones taint easy.

Thanks for the pass!! Being furloughed and basically on lock down, I'm going stir crazy here in the house with 4 other humans. Like you, I enjoy work and talking to other adults. Haven't been able to do that in over 3 weeks, and as of today it sounds like our great overlord, I mean governor, is going to extend it further. Not sure when I'll ever work again...

"Have a nice day 🙂" to keep the FG theme going. Talk soon Jenny, I mean @farm-mom.

ahahahaha😂 My name is Gump, Forest Gump.
Love that movie, probably watched it a half dozen times.

It sucks not working...gotta be tough on all of you.
Have no fear...crypto is on a roll, this could be "The BIG Year"🤞🤞🤞

I smoke weed like everyday because they smoke weed like everyday I'm so high because they smoke weed like everyday because they smoke weed like everyday I'm so high because they smoke weed like everyday...

If you're going to tag me I might as well make it good!

IMG_20201019_142710308.jpg

lol, thx dude.

Of course! Fire!

Is he/she your lost stash hunter?

In training! And I'm hoping so! That would be epic...

Hey bro. I enjoy your enthusiasm and sure, why not? I can add that tag when relevant... though I feel like I must tell you a story first.

For three years I posted inspirational daily quotes here under the tag #dailyquotes hoping that I would start a revolution of people posting under this tag to inspire each other on a daily basis. But that is not what happened. I just posted my stuff for three years while everyone else posted their stuff and very few people used the tag. If I had been actively rewarding anyone who used the tag this would likely have made a big difference. The dangling carrot needs to be clear & tasty ;)

Things are different now with communities, so if you can get people to post directly to your group that would at least create a central hub for everything. However, if I post to your group I am therefore not posting to my usual groups, @naturalmedicine & @ecotrain which means my followers are less likely to see what I am writing. So there is a conflict here. Unless I am not understanding the mechanics of this platform? It seems to me #ecotrain is the already existing crunchy group which covers all your subjects of interest. Why not just join them and save yourself a whole bunch of work?

Perhaps the trash can reference from our highest ranking member here relates to his experience of watching people like me who spend three years trying to get users to post under their tag... only to find it has made no difference at all. Had I focused my daily quote efforts always into the ecotrain tag and group I would likely have reached far more people.

Don't get me wrong. Anyone can achieve anything! I really mean that.

I'm just telling you my experience and trying to make sense of the comment from @doitvoluntarily

Thanks for thinking of me @pandamama

Your concern and honesty is honorable!

Don't get me wrong. Anyone can achieve anything! I really mean that.

I literally felt your sincerity

@samstonehill, I greatly appreciate the long, well thought out and well intentioned response. I totally get it and understand. I think I could have, and should have, made my intentions more clear or precise...

Maybe my thought process was wrong in making this community, instead of just sending people to @ecotrain, or @naturalmedicine, or what have you...but I basically just wanted a Hive BC version of the FB group I was already a part of. 6.4K members there, a lot of them are very active and have become friends over the years based on shared mindsets. I just wanted a Hive version for them to hop on over to, one stop shop if you will, instead of segmenting each and every person to their preferred spot. I figured once they were here (because that is the main goal, just get them HERE!), they would tool around and find all these other great communities on their own.

But you are correct, starting a new community with no content and basically no user base, is an extremely uphill battle. I posted on the #EC page that I personally, was not going to be pumping out tons of crunchy content, that wasn't my intent. Again, just tried to make a home for those people here on Hive.

I think your idea of reblogging great posts from those already established communities that share these same ideals is a fantastic idea and I will get to curating here very shortly.

The dangling carrot needs to be clear & tasty ;)

100%! Which is why I am powering up and buying more Hive :) Once a few of them come here, and get some rewards, it would make sense more would follow.

As the old wise sage @thebigsweed said, "I literally felt your sincerity", I did too.

Thanks again for your input and your time.

6.4k, getting just a small fraction of these people to check out # hive would put this idea in the winner's circle.

Run with it!!!!!

I love your initiative, @intothewild, and am happy to include #ec in future related posts!

Thanks so much @erikaharris! I appreciate you!

Dude! I know this guy! He's lives here in MPLS. I used to work with his SO. That's hilarious.

No kidding?? Man that's frikkin cool. I weren't back n forth with'em about 5 years ago about tour dates--really cool group of guys.

And I dig their sound too.

#ec

For reals dude! We've had some funny musician coincidences. Lmk if you happen to rear end my boy TM in the next few days.

Thanks for the tag! If I write any "cruchy" blog posts, I'll use #ec or #evertythingcrunchy.

Much thanks man!

Subscribed to the community! Also, tagged a few people who came to mind.

TY good sir, I appreciate all the help!

@samstonehill is a perfect candidate

Awesome to try to bring some more peeps on over here! @naturalmedicine is full of crunchy folks (maybe even direct some of them to naturalmedicine.io for a look at another frontend tied to Hive?), right @riverflows and @trucklife-family? Hive definitely is a better place than FB for those who live outside the "norm" and want to share about it. :)

Great idea about @naturalmedicine! There are a few really good specific type communities that would benefit from having more like minded people around.

Thanks for the tags and ideas @plantstoplanks!

Definitely! @ecotrain and @abundancetribe are great, as well. I think there's also the @homeedders community...lots of different options, and plenty of space for more to meet everyone's needs for posting and finding their Hive "home(s)".

Some groups don't like the cross-post option, one way around that is to just sign into your community account and re-blog post that fit your community needs. Like @samstonehill mentioned he has a following where he does his community postings, if he were to suddenly start cross-posting in more than one community people may have a problem with it, not necessarily your community.

So when you come across a post you like you can re-blog it in your community. I would caution however leaving a spammy "Look what I did for you" type comment. Leave a real comment, then if you want to say you re-blogged the post just leave it at that. Example: I loved the hint for how to turn the compost pile over and felt my followers would appreciate the hint also so I re-blogged you for our community." Just something simple.

It does take awhile for communities to get going but in a few years you may be bigger than your FB group and also more world wide.

Right on @bashadow. I agree and will begin doing that asap. I've never been a "Look what I did for you" kinda guy, I've been here almost since the beginning to know how things work. That definitely does not work.

But for real, follow me and I'll follow you, don't forget to upvote all my work ;)

lol, thanks for your thoughts and maybe some day...

you may be bigger than your FB group and also more world wide.

Here's hoping.

I am sure it, (Hive and your community), will grow. Face Book took a few years, YT took a few years, Hive is in reality only 8 or so old Months old and the separation from steem is for me pretty obvious, people seem to be much more social minded on Hive and more reward minded on steem.

One day people may wonder what ever happened to that steem thing, like they do with what ever happened to that myspace thing.

Good idea. Reblogged. Beyond using the tag #EC people will have to post to the community or crosspost to the community for the posts to show up there.

Ah, good call on that @pfunk! Thanks for letting me know, and the reblog.

Thanks for the heads-up, I had no idea this community even existed.
I like the whole idea and will gladly include the #ec tag.

So much of what entices me to read and reply to a person's work deals with so many of the topics that fall under the umbrella crunchy.

I never heard the word crunchy used in this manner but think it fits the bill perfectly.

So much of what entices me to read and reply to a person's work deals with so many of the topics that fall under the umbrella crunchy.

Same here bud. Hopefully a few stragglers over there will be enough to entice more and more to come here.

Thanks for helping out as always bud!

My pleasure!

What I like most about people who are crunchy, is that there is very rarely shaming and or disrespect towards someone with a different view point

Bad idea and poor logic needs to be held to the light (silence and too much respect for idiocy, is how we ended up here today - imo)

I'm crunchy! lol (by your definition)

Bad idea and poor logic needs to be held to the light (silence and too much respect for idiocy, is how we ended up here today - imo)

I 100% agree. The difference is that government is why we are where we are today, not because a person in a group is a vegan and I'm not and we didn't want to argue about until the end of time.

It's a non-mainstream view point, mostly. And as I blatantly, and literally say in the one paragraph bio for the page:

"Either you have logic and facts to back up your opinions, or you don't."

I would still call quackery, quackery, but if it works for someone, good for them, it doesn't effect me.

I'm crunchy! lol (by your definition)

You very well may be! I only know of you from what I've seen on my computer screen. I would say your politics, I've noticed lately anyway, has been righteously pro-freedom/anti-state, which would be non-mainstream. But idk...you just do you man. Just don't hurt me doing it :)

The difference is that government is why we are where we are today

Government doesn't exist as an entity - only the people within that governmental structure. ....which is exactly the need for bad ideas and poor logic, being held to the light.
As long as we see 'the government' as some sentient entity - and not individuals contributing to the mess, we end up where we are.

I'm not 'righteous' in the slightest - just firm in my perspectives (based on facts and logic).
I welcome anyone to alter/influence my perspectives - they have been altered many times over the years - but the people I do have conflict with, always shy away from the debate...(funny that).

@lucylin, have we not had discussions in the past about government? I thought my viewpoints on the matter were fairly well understood, we agree more than you seem to think.

I think our biggest difference is that I no longer have the time to debate and argue with everyone I disagree with (3 kids will do that). Especially when the disagreement means nothing to me and more importantly, doesn't negatively effect me.

Example:

Me: The sky is blue.

You: Actually, it's not. The light that comes from the sun reflects on the earth and is refracted into the sky which your eyes perceive to be blue but it's really not.

Me: Ok. Not an argument worth my time. Have a good day.

Vs.

Me: I'm all about freedom.

Someone else: I think you should be forced to take this va((ine.

Me: Um, no. Let's have a conversation about why you think you have any rights as to what I put in my body?

See the difference?

You like to argue/debate when there is no need and/or a simple misunderstanding...like when I said righteously, I meant that in a positive manner. Like you were doing it well, and good. We are on the same page dude. But you took righteously condescending or malicious, when that's not how I meant it.

This has already taken time away from my curating that I need to do. So I hope you now understand where I was coming from. Have a great day man.

Cool. Thanks for tagging. I will join and try to remember to use this tag - I do quite a bit of stuff - and sometimes even write about them! I will just add that NaturalMedicine community seems to include a lot of this stuff.

Awesome, thanks much! I will look more into natural medicine and see how we help each other.

I am very very crunchy and I will tag @innerblocks and @justinparke you fit the bill ehhh @intothewild good luck and I will add the tag to discord use aswell

Much love @brittandjosie!! TY so much!

It’s done no thanks needed thank you for spreading the hive word and trying to expand. The fact they aren’t willing for now is their loss

lmfao no thanks. hope the trash stays in the trash can

What an interesting response, @doitvoluntarily. I felt just the opposite when reading this. I felt excitement and hopefulness. And actually felt uplifted to have been included in the tag list. Not that I identify as "crunchy" per se (I don't), but I definitely esteem the values mentioned here, and even feel protective of them.

With respect and gentleness I ask... what is a specific example of something trashy in this post?

I don't seek debate. Am just genuinely curious.

Just another dude wondering in what context you use the word trash.
Just another dude whose name was also mentioned here.
Just another dude that enjoys everything @intothewild brings to the table.
Just another dude that has experienced the loyalty of this gentleman.
Just another dude who thinks this guy is a family guy, 👍👍
And hopefully just another dude out of many who think a little bit like this guy.

my body my choice style politics,

Although, what was stated in the @samstonehill reply can not be overlooked,
You have got to admire the initiative, intention, enthusiasm, and spirit that comes with this message.

IMG_4221.JPG

I'll patiently wait for your reply to a question many others are asking!! 🤷‍♂️

Just another dude...dude, you ARE the dude!!! lol

Almost made me tear up this morning bud, save that sappy flattery for @farm-mom man! lol, jk, I loved it!

I've got plenty of Luv to go around and sending some your way just seemed like the right thing to do. #farm-mom isn't the jealous type. 😁

What do you mean @doitvoluntarily ?
Who or what is the "Trash" that you are referring to?

@doitvoluntarily, also very curious what was trash? I thought voluntary was what you were all about?!

You may disagree with someone who is crunchy, but they're trash because of that?
