High Water

in #esteem6 years ago (edited)

We are supposed to get more rain and storms tonight and I had the opportunity to go out and take photos this afternoon, so I thought now was a good time, just in case we get high winds and all the pretty leaves end up on the ground.

image

Driving along the river in some spots the water was almost up to the edge of the road. We really do not need another drop of rain!

image

You would get pretty wet if you wanted to sit on these park benches that are normally along the banks of the river.

But the ducks and the geese don't seem to mind swimming around trees!

A perfectly lovely day to be out of the house!

Love the colors of the leafs. Is that a Maple tree? Oh the ducks are so cool. We get peliguns at the lake here in spring and fall. We always have ducks and geese.

Love

That is a maple tree. We don't have too many of them that grow in the woods. These are usually specimen trees that have been planted in people's yards, this one happened to be in the park.

Our ducks and geese pretty much stay all year too, unless it gets bitterly cold and everything freezes over. Then they will go in search of open water. The Pelicans tend to stay west of the Mississippi River. I don't know why that is. Occasionally I'll see a line of them flying up my river in the spring, but not very often.

Are you finding that you have enough RC to do the things that you want to do now?

Looks like you have a beautiful park. Yes i want you to know that has helped out. I have not been denied access to anything. Thank you for the boost. I have in one month gone from 25 to a 45 reputation. I give credit for that to lessons learned on pryor account.
The HF20 seems to have taken a toll on the reputations under 40. Funny how I am a person that has never worried about a reputation. Being a truthful person that thinks we are all purple some have more color ($) some have less but we are all purple. One shade or the other we can get along.

Love to you

That is a Big spider! I'm glad it is not in my room! I am glad that helped make it easier for you to post and comment! That makes me happy. Glad to see that you are at 45 rep. I have never paid much attention to that number either, and I agree with you about purple!

I knew you would understand the purple.

Love

I forgot where you live. That bench is sure out there.
The rain is supposed to stop for one day tomorrow here.

I'm in South Central Wisconsin. We're supposed to get more rain through tomorrow and then on Thursday the sun is supposed to come out and we're supposed to have high temperatures in the 40s for all the rest of the week. Freezing temperatures at night. Are you getting this much rain, too?

Sounds like us in Nebraska.

Rain? What is the thing you speak of? : )

I'd be so happy to share!

Please do. We need it!

Beautiful pictures! I'm sure you enjoyed that walk and took lots of pictures. Those ducks are enjoying the river

Ha! I came home with 200 pictures from today. I'm sure many of them will need to be deleted, but it's going to be fun to have some new pictures to work with! It was really good just to get out of the house.

I know exactly how that is. I always take many photos, my cell phone has almost no memory and I must delete some photos... I think that in the future I should buy a camera would be great and the photos would be better. I had one camera full of pictures of cakes but they stole it... Today I make a mini cake and take so much pictures😍

I made sure I had a fully charged battery before I left home today. I totally used the entire battery up and couldn't imagine why it did not last longer. Until I got home and saw how many pictures I had actually taken. Then I understood why the battery had died.

I think I would also make sure to have all the battery of my cell phone before leaving home and have many photos to take. With such a beautiful landscape, I would take many photos. I imagine a beautiful cake under that beautiful tree would be very beautiful😍😍😍

It would be the perfect place for a fancy tea party! Do you remember seeing the photos of the surprise tea party that my grandson organized for me down beside the river?

Yes I saw them. And one of them is seen when I go to your steemit page, right?

how divine it is to take a walk and breathe fresh air, it is an amazing place nature with its charms and beauties fascinated me the ducks look so adorable

Thanks! It was such a beautiful day to be outdoors! Those silly ducks were kind of muttering at me under their breath as I went past but they didn't bother moving very far. They say colder weather is on its way though!

Love the maple tree and the ducks and geese. Especially the geese photo. Look at the bright side, think how much snow that would be if the precipitation was next month ;)

I know! I really hope this precipitation pattern changes before the snow begins. Otherwise we will be up to our eyeballs!

Good idea. Many a time trees have turned, only to be instant stripped of their beautiful foliage by a surprise hard storm. Just when you start to enjoy them, they're gone !

Amazing the river is so full already. Hope ya'll get lucky and don't get much rain.

We have had a ridiculously wet summer. Last weekend we got 4 inches. It seems like every few days we get 2 in. or 3 in. During one storm Madison got 11 inches and even though Madison is 50 miles away, eventually all that water ends up in this river.

We found that many of the areas that are usually really beautiful haven't even begun to change yet. Everything seems really out of sync this year.

Here in NC, we have had a lot more rain the last couple of months that what as been the norm. When the hurricane came in a few weeks back, the ground was already saturated and I'm sure that made the flooding much worse. I am mid state and although the prediction was dire, we didn't get nearly as bad as they thought, even though we got lots of rain and wind, it was not that bad. We were lucky, but it looks like something else may be heading up shortly with more rain. It is too soon and I hope it dies out before it gets here, otherwise, those folks that are barely getting out of flood danger, will be right back in it.

My neighbor has sandbags in her garage so she is prepared if it comes up a little bit further here. It won't take much to put it at her doorstep. If this precipitation pattern continues after the temperatures get colder we are going to have snow up to a roof lines. I certainly hope that next hurricane just dies out. You guys have had more than your share, too.

I lived in San Antonio, Texas for 6 years and still talk to some of my friends there. When I lived there, we were lucky to have rain once every 2 or 3 months and then it would rain for 3 or 4 days and fill everything back up and disappear for 2 or 3 more months. I have been talking to a friend there and he says they have had so much rain for the last 6 weeks to 2 months that it keeps flooding because they are also very saturated. Talk about somewhere that much rain isn't normal ! Interesting that multiple places are having SO much.

Ew ! I hope it isn't an omen for tons of snow, here or there either one !

So nice picture miss.

Beautiful photographs! The softness, the lighting, everything! love the angle and colors so much, love your photography style.

Thanks. Luv!

howdy this fine Wednesday melinda010100! wow you are so right, those colors are amazing and that water! lol man it needs to stop raining for awhile, those park benches put it all into perspective, this is a great post!

Thanks, luv! Glad you enjoyed seeing it. It continues to rain today. It is so dark and dreary and the temperatures are beginning to drop I brought all the plants in off the deck on to the back porch because the temps are supposed to drop down into the 30s tonight and then for several nights in a row. Sounds like this is a prediction for a hard killing frost. I may try to cover a few of the plants that are planted out on the deck, just in case we get a few more weeks of warm weather later on. It would be nice to have the chrysanthemums out there until Thanksgiving, if I could. They had so much color on these bleak days

howdy there melinda010100! yes aren't those bright colored plants marvelous in dreary weather? absolutely, that's a good plan. That one photo on your post with the deck, I assume that is your deck?

It is right outside of my screen porch. I love to be out there and I often sit out there with my phone so that I can be on Steen and with my camera close at hand!

oh wow melinda010100..now you make me want to be out there too! We could sit around talking about all your world travels with a glass of wine
while observing the beauty of nature!

Come visit anytime! Do you like red or white? You might want to wait until next summer, though!

haha! yes the summertime on that deck has to be totally amazing. I like whatever has alcohol in it! lol. I actually haven't had much white wine but what I have had was really good but usually I have red or merlot.

We almost never have it anymore because Mrs. J started developing a reaction to it, like an allergy to the sistenes or the nitrates or whatever they had to help keep it from spoiling, at the moment I can't recall what it is but anyway that's why we unfortunately stopped at least for now.

Indeed, and loved to see the geese and the ducks having fun around the trees and the benches, lol! I'm happy you had a wonderful day, my dear Melinda!

It was very nice to get out and enjoy the sunshine while it lasted! We're back to being dark and dreary and it's raining.

I kinda miss a bad weather, lol! I will get a cold, for sure, my body is no longer used to 4 seasons, lol!

Leave it to the ducks to make good use of the rising water, @melinda010100.

So, I guess your neck of Wisconsin is prone to flooding this time of year? And where does the weather usually come from? My guess would be either Lake Superior or Lake Michigan.

We've yet to have the rain we normally get heading deeper into fall. We've got a nice "Indian" summer happening for the most part, which is just fine. I don't mind lingering sunshine and temperatures that reach the low 70s. There's a definite chill in the air, though, and I imagine the rain won't be held off too long.

It takes quite a bit to flood here, though. Usually ground at its saturation point, then a heavy rain mixed with higher winter temperatures so there's snow melt and runoff from the mountains. When the water rises in the reservoirs, the Army Corps of Engineers generally opens up floodgates to alleviate pressure on the dams, and of course, that water comes barreling downstream.

That's here in the Willamette Valley along the rivers or tributaries. On the coast, and other lower lying areas (we're above 200 feet), it doesn't take much at all for it to flood. On the east side of the mountains, it's high desert, where I guess they could have flash floods, but I can't think of when I've heard of that ever happening.

Well, hopefully it didn't get worse. I guess I better check some of your newer posts to see if it did or not. :)

This is actually very unusual for Wisconsin in the fall. We do get flooding in the springtime after the snow melt but usually our August's are hot and dry and we're looking forward to some snow to replenish the moisture. This year we have had ridiculous amounts of rain. Madison which is just 50 miles to the North had one rainfall of 11 in and all that water ends up working its way down stream. Two weekends ago we had a 4-inch rain fall. And in between it seems like it has rained almost every day, thunderstorms, showers, with a deluge or two in between! We have had it all!

If this precipitation pattern keeps up we are going to be up to our eyeballs in snow. Temperatures tonight are supposed to drop below freezing. So winter is not too far away. But for now I'm just trying to enjoy the brief periods of sunshine that we do get and enjoy autumn!

Okay. Wow. That sounds more like what we can get here, minus the heavy snowfall. Which is okay by me.

Well, I do hope you guys get some relief and dry out before the main part of winter hits. We live as about as north as I ever want to live, but we haven't quite figured out where might be better, all around, including climate. There's always something lacking, even if other things are way better. It's going to be a trade off. And so we end up staying longer just because the net result is pretty much the same.

Well, that, and we're waiting for our two sons and their families to settle down so we can live somewhere between them so we can visit grandchildren. Not them. Just the grandkids. :)

Haha! All my grandchildren are nearby and that's exactly what keeps me in Wisconsin!

The one we have now lives with us. The other due in December will be about 25 minutes away. Not sure how long that's going to last, but it will into the foreseeable future for both of them. The oldest son, with grandson coming, needs to find a job, though, and depending on where that is, might have to relocate. My guess, he's not going to find something where they'll be living, if he actually finds a job in his field of web design and development. Won't know until it happens, unfortunately. This grandpa gig is so far a lot of waiting and seeing. Boring! :)

My grandkids are all teenagers. I miss having little ones around. They grew up much too quickly!

I guess that means you just need to hold on until the next round. I'd like to see some great grandchildren before I go. I'd say great great grandchildren, too, but that seems a little too optimistic. Or drudgery, depending on how my body and brain are doing at that point. :)
