Starting to be Able to Breath Again

( for those wondering where my trademark goatee and mustachio are... I shaved.. terrible mistake! )

My name is KLYE. I'm 29 years young and while some would say I'm an intelligent lad of sorts for the past 15 of my 29 years on this planet I'd been tricked into smoking cigarettes...

Now I can't say that any outside source actually duped me into smoking these fucking stinking, filthy and disgusting little devices of death. The truth of the matter is that for the 15 years I'd been tricked into smoking it was ME pulling the wool over my eyes and convincing myself I needed to spend thousands of dollars annually to put one of these things in my mouth a few dozen times a day, light it on fire and inhale smoke that had only detrimental effects to my psyche and body at the rate I inhaled them... while "enjoying" it.

While I started smoking young when a former friend of mine and I would skip classes to stay at his place watching TV and chuffing on his parents smokes I've no one to blame but myself for continuing the habit. The taste of a cigarette isn't something anyone truly enjoys, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to themselves and you.. But the human mind is a powerful thing at times and the true cause of my addiction to endlessly poison myself with these moronic little devils came from within my own mind. See, humans will do anything if they can justify it... And I'd justified it for years out of addiction, self hatred and looking"edgey".. But no more!

THE STINKIEST, MOST EXPENSIVE SUICIDE EVER

While I wasn't always a pack or 2 packs a day cigarette smoker for the majority of the decade and a half I smoked an estimate around 25-50 cigarettes a day was my average.. At $15 a pack (conservative estimate) at a pack a day for 15 years... So 365 days X 15 years = 5475 days!

~5475 days smoking at a pack a day MULTIPLIED by $15 a pack equals...
( rough math of course.. mathematics isn't my strong point! )

$82125

So I spent like $82,000 CAD (Canadian Dollars) to fill an addiction, possibly give myself lung, mouth and throat cancer as well as stink like a burnt hookers taint... WHAT THE FUCK?!

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but spending that much and essentially achieving nothing but straining my body and gumming up my lungs seems absolutely absurd now that I look at it.. But alas, I'd tricked my mind into thinking I needed those damn cigarettes.

FOOL, I was a straight up mongoloid fool

As much as cancer, heart disease and chronic illness isn't a topic to joke about for $82,000 I better have gotten soooooome form of terrible thing bestowed upon me after spending that much! I'd almost feel ripped off if I didn't end up with some terrible smoking related disease later in life after spending close to $100,000 and half my life chuffing on those terrible stink sticks.. <_<

Breathing Through a Straw

While it wasn't financial pressure that prompted me to try to quit smoking again.. I'll fully admit due to my recent health scare involving my infected ankle and the hospital it really sort of got me thinking that "Hey, I guess I'm not as young or immortal as I used to be.. time for change". Which turned into looking at my bad habits and how I could minimize the strain, stress and systematic destruction of my own body given my poor life choices at times.

Honestly I'd no idea how absolutely terrible my lungs ability to take in oxygen was until now 2 weeks without cigarettes. Sure I've been vaping a ton and likely actually ingesting more nicotine than I was before but holy hell..! I can actually get a decent deep breath now and not feel like I'm breathing through a straw! Actually incredibly excited to see further lung capacity and oxygen absorption potential come back to me as time goes on.

Figure Out WHY You Smoke...
Then Stop Being an Idiot!

For me it was a combination of addiction, trying to fit in when I was younger, boredom and then lack of love for myself later on that kept me going on, day in and day out, smoking that terrible smelling garbage. Atleast marijuana has an effect and a pleasant odour, can't honestly find a good reason that I'd start smoking again.. Last failed attempt I used stress as an excuse to start again.. First with cigars, then packs of cigars, then back to cigarettes.

DON'T MAKE EXCUSES TO SMOKE CIGARETTES... Just Fucking Stop!

Weening yourself off or what have you will not work. You need to first address the mental addiction and self brainwashing you've developed to make yourself smoke in the first place and work from there. Personally I'm still keeping the nicotine addiction for now and will eventually lower my nicotine per milligram in the vape solutions I'm inhaling these days. The goal for me was to stop smelling like burning trash, the secondary objective will be nipping the nicotine bug out of my life.

It May Take You Dozens of Attempts to Stop

Do or do not. Their is NO try. Yoda said it best.

If you're going to stop, stop, if you relapse.. who cares?! Just keep your goals and reasons in mind when you get the craving or are pressured to light up.. Because really... Do you wanna spend the rest of your life out of breath, stinking like burning dog shit and giving yourself and those around you cancer? FUCK NO.

If KLYE can do it, so can you! I've the willpower of a drunk gnat, the addictive personality of a crackhead and the odd day of self hatred sprinkled here and there.. But you know what? I deserve better than to spend thousands of more dollars to stink up my life, screw my lungs up and ultimately rob myself of life. So do you!

Thanks for reading.
Good luck on quitting and good on you if you have already!

It seems like you are very upset that the name of cigarette, but some people think smoking is a good friend

Yes, stop doing smoking. Its not good for body health.

It's rubbish and smells. As long as I don't allow myself to fall into that stinky trap again I'll be alright. :)

It seems like you are very, upset that the name of cigarette, but some people think smoking is a good friend,,,

Smoking is a fools hobby and yeah... I guess after spending half my life hypnotized by myself to smoke them... May be a bit of anger.. XD

This is a great post. Smoking is bad, everyone knows this but some confused people make it seem cool. Then more confused people think they would be cool if they started smoking.

Thank you for sharing your story. ♥

Nothing cool about smoking man. It's expensive, stinks, kills you slowly and ultimately is just shitty decision making..!

😊 I am female

Everyone is a man in KLYE's realm..!

lol, that and the age old adage "No actual girls on the internet, just 40 year old neckbeards" :)

My apologies if I've offended.

Congrats dude. I've been trying to quit. I've failed, I won't lie. I'm still working on it though. Each time gets a little bit easier for me..

as long as people would just stop being assholes every time I quit the goddamn things!

LoL

I like the little nicotine spray device. It got me through the some rough patches...

Like when people are being assholes and I'm trying to quit!

Good job dude. Keep it up!

Don't try, just get er done!

Admittedly I failed a dozen or more times to stop. It takes a conscious choice and no effort really.

You either accept smoking and make it a part of your day to day... Or you decide you love yourself and don't want to stink like a slutty ashtray.. I believe in you man.

Yeah. It's a simple choice. I made this awhile back when I announced my quitting on my blog. I actually lasted a long time.

I hate these bloody things.

Congrats dude, that's a tough, strong and brave stance/decision you took there.
Keep at it.
(Also try Headspace, still in favor of it!)

Ahh, I've yet to visit that and check it out.

Perhaps once I get everything somewhat caught up and this new witness server going. :)

Sure man, take your time. Didn't know you were a witness too!
What a great job I did in ignoring your signature lol

@klye who dont know you on steemit quite familiar whale...who supports minnows. Strange to know you were on path of death.
Smoking always kills..... Even i said the same thing to @cnts . looking young lads smoking i feel irritated. If itbis so fruitful one should inhale smoke from a burning anything....btw congrats on another achievements 👍...have a rocking life ahead..smokefree

Thank you steemflow. Your blessing and words are very kind and I appreciate them.

Steem forward!

Thanks @klye 👍 live life happily...and steem on!

Wow...you wasted so much cash on the ciggies- glad you woke up , realized and stopped it. Keep it that way and you will surely add more good years to your life :)

Absolutely stupid.. At the end there I was smoking nearly $20 a pack "Export A Gold" smokes...

Dafak was I thinking?! Much prefer the smell and flavour of this vaping juice I have now. <3

First congratulations... it is not an easy thing to eliminate a daily habit (good or bad) as the subconscious is enacted leaving conscious decision making brain cells out of the equation. Now we see another turn in Vaping, which is not the same as smoking tobacco, yet the destruction of the health still the underlying issue (it's called Bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) or popcorn lung). So good luck going forward in just stopping all.

Damned if you do.. Damned if you don't!

Not saying vaping is any safer to be honest... Smells better though!

Appreciate the heads up. :)

Seriously in the end does it matter...look at all the aluminum and other chemicals we breath each day... we are dammed either way, (so far). But our mission is to never give up, congratulations again.

I was a welder for a while... In enclosed compartments.. in oil field fracking trailers of all things.. D:

Sure I bought a $1500 respirator helmet to stave off some of the fumes.. But if it ain't the smoking that gets me it'll be the ridiculous gasses and metals I've inhaled while doing trades work..

Oh well, Here is to another 15 years of KLYE, and to your health as well!

Klye How are you doing! long time no see man!

I'm not dead! That's a plus.

Been slowly regathering myself to get some things done.. This winter has been garbage on my psyche!

Good to see you. :)

Congratulations on your resolve to cease the disgusting habit! Best wishes to better health & new habits!

At some point in a man's life he's got to look at what he's doing and have a big ole "WTF" moment.

save your lungs dear!
your pictures are themselves great messages for smokers!
BTW I have smoke allergy :(

Smoking cigarettes is terrible. Save your money...! Smoke marijuana! XD

marijuana is cheap there??

Yeah man.. I'm in Canada.. The whole west coast here is basically a grow op!

in next visit, I will meet you then ;)

Is it better to smoke marijuana or ingest it?

If you decarboxalate it... Eating is way to go...

Less smell and fine particulate matter in the lungs.. Just takes longer to kick in!

i can relate this ..smoking has guarantee to kill us but i still do that.. i promise myself to quit this bad habit but still remains the same..Maybe one day i can :(

You can any day.. Figure out why you brainwash yourself into doing it then undo the self harm. :)

Good on you man. @klye, you've made a great decision... And one that should add years before you shuffle off from the mortal coil.

Honestly, probably the best decision you've made in life, other than jumping on the Steem train. Hopefully your message moved others to quit. Sadly, I think it will talk a potential life threatening incident to move most... Let's hope not.

P.S. shaved my beard after 15 years. F'n dog growled at me when I came downstairs. Winter was a hell of a lot colder on my face this year.

Its a great topic what you mention on your post. i think in every cigarette packet body has written that its cause for health, but no one listen. Some of are smock because of habit & some of are thought its part of digital style. but i think we should avoid this. Everyone know that its causes so many disease, such as cancer, heart problem, also make problem in breath .. many of human die for this habit also wast of money..i like a part of your post, you mention that burning money, i want to say something, Money is the second god. no one want to burn the money, but they don't know that, the smoking is a one kind of burning the money. So everyone should say no .
thanks for let us know about this topic & everyone should know about it.

I couldn't finish reading this post. I must smoke a cigarette now!

Quitting smoking is not easy, even knowing that the harmful effects of smoking, quitting the habit of smoking is an elusive goal for most people, but it is not impossible, everyone can do it, congratulations very good publication!

Fantastic news that you've managed to quit and I have to agree with pretty much everything you say. The only thing I don't ;) is vaping. Everything I read about it does suggest you're still doing yourself a heck of a lot of harm. You might not be coating your little alveoli with ash / tar (which probably is pretty much what stopped your lungs from working properly in the past), you're still taking in a lot of extremely nasty chemicals. Shit that doesn't belong.

There are miracle cures now. I should know, I use one of them. Or rather I did. 3 months on champix* (so long as your doc is happy with you to use it) and you'll be free from nicotine for good. I'm 5 months clear now without a single regret. NRT - nicotine replacement therapy - is not a good idea. And vaping sounds like NRT in its worst form to me. In that the idea is hardly to help you off nicotine (vaping companies want to make the money out of you that cig manufacturers made).

Either way, it's a massive positive step you've made and I hope your health improves significantly as a result. Hopefully, others reading your post will also be inspired to quit, too. It's better they choose to go the whole hog, but if they take up vaping also, I'm sure they'll be adding to their life expectancy. Which is what it all boils down to.

So congratulations, good luck and keep it up! :D

*I think it's around £100-150 for a 3 month course. There's a similar drug that I only heard of last week here on steemit that costs a fraction of this which supposedly you can buy over the Internet. I know I can not recommend champix highly enough. And it gives you the most lucid dreams as a lovely (/ horribly, nightmarish if you're that way inclined) side-effect.

The (perhaps) lesser of two evils.. Ultimately I just wanted to stop stinking like a smokey bar and the vaping from what I read isn't THAT much bettter but atleast I smell like good things instead of old cigarette.

Maaaan, I've started getting my sense of smell back too. Kind of a gift an a curse.

Vaping had far less testing done than cigarettes. Some kf those juice companies are more rancid than cigarettes, and cause other problems. Be careful
