Keto Update

One of my last posts before life got in the way and I had a break from steemit was about me starting Keto.

That was over 2 years ago.

Shit happened as shit does. A good friend died, I ended up in hospital for a bit and then a couple of weeks after that I had to move from my farm to a B&B in a different part of the country.

Keto also took a backburner for over a year. Then came covid and lockdown. What also came with that was an extra 10 kilos added to the waistline and everywhere else for that matter!!!

In June 2020 I made the decision to take back control of my life and health. I was utterly sick of being a spectator in my own life instead of participating... I had high BP, all my joints hurt and my back was killing me!! I could barely get up of the chair and the thought of walking anywhere was enough to make me hyperventilate.

The Goal

I knew I'd had some success with doing Keto before but the task at hand seemed too big to comprehend... My goal for weight loss was 63.5 kilos or for those of you that work in pounds - 139.7!!!! Not for the faint hearted believe me. A nurse helped me see past that huge number by simply saying "don't look at it as a whole but just take 1 kilo at a time" That really did help and I keep going back to that one sentence every time I need to refocus.

Keto to the Rescue

For those of you that don't know about the Keto diet it's a high fat, low carb way of eating. The science behind it is that you stop eating carbs as a fuel for energy and train your body to burn excess fat stores. This is called Ketosis.
Using a Keto Calculator you work out your macros - for me it's 1500 calories, 20 grams of carb, 120 grams of fat and around 90 grams of protein a day.
Every day since June I have written a food diary. This helps keep me on track and also lets me look back at what I'm doing right or wrong.
You can make eating as simple or as complicated as you choose... I choose to make it simple. There's only me so I don't have to cook for anyone else. Basically it's meat, cheese, some veges, nuts and seeds and limited fruit. I haven't struggled at all with the food.

Progress So Far

I'm extremely pleased with how things have gone. I feel so much better health wise. I've lost 38kgs or 83.6 pounds. I realise there's still a long way to go but that's ok.. I don't feel the need to change how I'm eating as this seems to suit my body.

If anyone wants to know more about how this has helped me please feel free to ask questions..

That is a fantastic outcome @andyscanti48, you must feel great. This way of eating becomes a way of life I found out. I have been on a type of Keto diet for a couple of years, I don't like a lot of fat in my diet so needed to adapt. I find that smaller meals suit me especially at night. While I have always been a small shape now I can honestly say I am quite small with clothes in my wardrobe swimming on me. I feel good and that is all that matters. I always avoid scales!😊

Thank you I do feel great!! Still lots to go but I can actually see a place where I'll be happy with how I look. I don't need skinny I just need normalish :) Hehe I love cream in my coffee so don't mind the fat at all :D

Cream in my coffee is a daily affair with me😃

Terrific post @andysantics48 and congratulations on the weight loss!! That is really something to feel good about and something to be proud of! It is easier to focus on what you can have than what you can't have in a diet. I can imagine how much better you must be feeling and I'm sure that is a good motivator as well...wishing you much luck in your continued weight loss journey!! 💕

Thank you so much - funnily enough I don't have any desire to "cheat" I guess because I'm never hungry. I think by stopping any sugar you lose the cravings and by eating more fat you don't get hungry like before. I will do a progress report when I get to a full year.. not long now but I really hope another couple of kilos gone :D

You're very welcome! I've heard the same from people on keto that they don't feel hungry. Sugar can be so addicting especially in sodas. I could lose some pounds myself but keto can be quite a commitment that I don't feel I have in me right now. I hope you are able to reach your goal and wish you much the best! 🙂

This is wonderful Andy. I’m glad you found a way to lose weight that agrees with you.

“One kilo at a time” is a great way to think to focus and not get stressed.

Have a wonderful week.🌸

Thanks @redheadpei It has been much easier than any other diet and believe me I've tried a lot of them.. I feel great!!
