Motivation – The success story of a visually impaired man

Every time I look at my life I can’t help but be grateful to God, I am really grateful because I am not physically challenged in any way or sick, the fact that my well-being is not resting on the shoulders of anybody is an additional bonus.

I really can’t imagine what my life would have been if I was deformed in any way.
My confidence level is not yet up to 100% as complete and healthy as I am how much more if there was something wrong with me?

I know sometimes I can be an ungrateful fellow, complaining about the slightest acne that appears on my face or how emaciated I look but each time I think about everything happening in the world I take back all the rubbish I have been complaining about.

Something fueled this post or rather someone.

Mr. Tommy is a colleague of mine as well as an acquittance, Mr. Tommy is visually impaired, he has been working at my office for two years and he has been doing well, someone might be wondering what Mr. Tommy’s job description is, He is an Estate Surveyor, a very smart and good one at that, he has never allowed his condition to weigh him down.

source

As a staff in my office, Mr. Tommy has taken the time to learn the patterns and structures of the entire office, He can walk with his stick to the cafeteria, toilet, and various offices without the help of anybody.

Whenever I see him performing all these activities I always wonder.

Now here’s a very interesting thing about Mr. Tommy which I have always noticed, Mr. Tommy can have his lunch all by himself and you will never see food particles around the corners of his mouth, funny how people who have their two eyes open can be victims of having food particles all around their mouth or soiling their clothes but here is a man who is visually impaired doing amazing things.
He would carefully eat his lunch and clean the table he used to eat and come out refreshed.

source

Mr. Tommy is the only visually impaired person that I am closed to so forgive me if I sound so fascinated because I truly am.

When I say Mr. Tommy is smart, I mean he is really smart, he is the choirmaster of his church choir, he is also into real estate, Mr. Tommy just finished building his house and moved into it with his family, his wife just gave birth to a baby girl and the last time we spoke he said something about getting a car.

So we were having a conversation one day, we talked about the various beautiful cities in Nigeria and Mr. Tommy said something that broke me, he said “I remember when I was in Port Harcourt, I really enjoyed it there, I just can’t wait for these eyes to open so I can explore more”, for 5 good minutes I was mute, it was when he called my name that I was drawn back to reality.

I felt so sorry for him, apparently, he wasn’t born blind, he was in his final year of college when the awful incident struck.

source

Despite his condition Mr. Tommy has never stopped dreaming and aspiring for the future, he doesn’t like people to pity him as a matter of fact in the office we don’t even help him do stuff or try to be excessively nice because he is all good by himself.

I hope this story inspires you never to stop dreaming or aspiring to be better despite your condition.

I loved this! What a wonderful tribute to an amazing man and an inspiration to you! 💜 This post would have been great with the #thoughtfuldailypost tag by @wesphilbin, too!

#thoughtfuldailypost is a tag created by WesPhilbin in 2019. It is for posts of a thoughtful nature, something inspirational, or a personal musing of how you have learned something or grown as a human being. The writing should be of a reflective nature and teaches a lesson about our human condition and how to improve it.

  • Hi, There

Mr. Tommy is very inspiring, it is funny how we like to complain sometimes about things we don't have and forget all the things we have going on good for us.

Our condition should never define us, we can always find a way to achieve our dreams regardless of what life throws at us just like the amazing Mr. Tommy is doing with his life.

I hope that he regains his sight sooner than later.

Mr. Tommy is very inspiring, it is funny how we like to complain sometimes about things we don't have and forget all the things we have going on good for us.

I tell you and I have been a victim for so long, i'm really trying to stop complaining about all my shortcomings.

I hope that he regains his sight sooner than later.

    I hope too😀

Our lives have a way of becoming happier the moment we learn how to be grateful for those little things going on we'll for us.

    You're absolutely correct😃

Well-done Mr Tommy you are doing well, I believe that disability is not in any way a reason to be lazy and depends on people because success doesn't depend on how hard to try rather it depends on how consistent you are and how determined you are. Jehovah will always bless Mr Tommy.

Amen and thank you dear @beauty197 Mr. Tommy and I are grateful for your kind words😃

    @ibbtammy...

What a wonderful post, as well as a tribute, to Mr. Tommy. It's quite evident that he has made a positive impact in your life. Often times, it's the people around us who some might ignore. Or worse yet; it seems in today's society, anyone who is "different" no matter the reason. Will automatically draw the attention of others. Sadder yet again... this attention is often of a negative.

Being different doesn't make us broken, or unworthy. You've proven this by sharing the way you've rose above the norm, and treated someone with the respect they deserve!

What an honor this must be, to be able to learn and interact, with such a wonderful gentleman. As KittyGirl mentioned... I would be honored to have more of this energy in my Community... I look forward to seeing what you might share with us next!

I think society should learn how to stare less, pity less, smile sheepishly less at people who are different. These people know they are different so the least we can do is not to remind them of how different they are.

I would be honored to have more of this energy in my Community... I look forward to seeing what you might share with us next!

I am honored to be invited, I just went through your community and it looks like a place I'd love to be, see you on the other side😊
