ShowCase Sunday: If you’re going to Comment, Up-Vote me Dammit!

Introducing the ShowCase Sunday Community!

Originally created by @nonameslefttouse who has given me permission to use his idea for a community, I decided to create one and give him some rights whether he likes it or not.

I don’t want to blather on about the community, how it’s going to change the world, bring around an end to the CorovaVirus, or any other kind of blatant promises that are lies but feel free to use it and ’READ THE RULES’

I’m not lying about that intelligent code, they will find you and…

…’just get on with the damn content will you?’…

Today’s Showcase Sunday post was originally authored on the 30th May 2018. I had been on STEEM for almost 3 months and was already voicing my opinions strongly.

Reading this again does make me chuckle. If you're going to comment, then vote my post.... you twat!

…’I wouldn’t have dared to say it so brazenly in those days’…

I had just discovered a certain @tarazkp who partook into the comments and added his opinion. If you had more than 500SP then, you were in the 1% group of top stakeholders!

It shows what a difference the chain was compared to now. I noted @tarazkp’s wallet size and positively drooled at the massive votes he was handing out.

Could I ever attain that level? Not a chance. Yet today we are quite similar in stake size. Perseverance can pay off, and you need to work at things if you want to see the gold.

@mysearchisover who received a plethora of flags for self-voting comments and buying votes in the past 6 months is doing what he does best here.

…’self-voting his own comments on my post that is criticising that very point’…

I notice today he still cannot contain himself from self-voting his own comments, /facepalm.

STEEM was probably around $3 per token when this was published. How things have changed.

The original post did well and gained a reward of $12 which was unthinkable for me at the time. It can be found here.

Below is a copy of post with a little tidying up.

Yes this is a bit of a gripe and a moan and groan, but as the title says show some appreciation for the author.

I have written something that is unique to planet earth, so if you're going to pay a visit and comment then up-vote the article.

I don’t care if you contribute $0.00 as your vote, it really doesn’t matter. I would love votes of $10 each from everyone, but even $0.00 shows that you appreciate the author and the work, and that’s what counts with me.

We are not all whales or dolphins, in fact, according the a recent article I read from @tarazkp, anyone who has more than 500SP is in the 1% bracket of wealthy Steemians.

Technically 99% of people viewing my post will have less than 500SP if this is true, but it doesn’t matter…., I’m repeating myself now.

While I’m at it, another thing that is annoying is self-up-voting on comments. I don’t mean posts; I mean your own comments. As far as posts go, yes I do self-up-vote my own posts but I also shell out a lot of votes to others as well.

@shanibeer mentioned in a recent article that she is very choosy on who she up-votes.

Self-Vote.JPG

If your self-voting percentage is >10% then don’t expect a vote she says. Mine is currently at 8.16%, but never breaches 10%. There has been a lot said about self-voting recently so I’ll leave it there. We all make our choices.

@shanibeer does come and visit me sometimes, so I think I’m still in her good books

What instigated this article is a certain Steemian who visited my blog recently, commented and didn’t up-vote. I checked this person’s self-vote percentage and it was almost 94%.

I won’t name names, or point fingers, but if this person thinks I don’t notice, then they need to think again and start sharing the votes. Suffice to say, they didn't get my vote.

I’m aware that everyone has their own opinion about these things, and you can do what you like, but people will notice your behaviour and may change their stance toward you if you don’t adhere to what their perception of good etiquette is.

So my personal rules are:

  • I will never comment on a post without up-voting it.
  • I always up-vote comments if reciprocated.
  • If you don’t up-vote my post but comment, I may reply but don’t expect an up-vote.

I’m not a self-righteous bigot. Do what you like on Steemit, but expect people to notice if you don’t behave. It’s really your choice.

My thought's on this post from the Jurrasic Period

Well Damn..., I was the bossy bugger after just THREE months, but the responses I gained were almost all positive.

In today’s world, I vote most comments if they are decent. I DON’T expect you to reciprocate.

The ‘curve’ has made it difficult to comment vote, so save your voting power for other people's posts.

I knew just a few other people at the time. @steevc, @daan, @bozz and @shanibeer may remember it, but otherwise, it will be new to you.

Stay tuned for another spectacular special edition next Sunday.

Are you going to showcase one of your gems?

If so, use the 'Showcase Sunday' community (@hive-103425). The more comical and out of date the better!

If you found this article so invigorating that you are now a positively googly-eyed, drooling lunatic with dripping saliva or even if you liked it just a bit, then please upvote, comment, resteem, engage me or all of these things.

Sort:

I try to not autovote too much. It really defeat the purpose of consuming content.

Since I’m no longer managing tribe VP, it’s been much more doable.

It really defeat the purpose of consuming content.

Your right and I'm guilty of this to some extent. I will respond on my own posts but don't do enough on others'.

Well, don’t go commenting for the sake of commenting.

Only if I have something to say!

So. Back in the days before sliders when Steem was worth some real money, I left the first 'community' that I found because they insisted that if you comment you vote. So I left, never to return.

I read every single post I comment on. End to end. When I had under 500 Steem I had 10 or maybe 15 votes per day. I was desperately trying to make a name for myself and I read and commented on at least 30 posts per day. Often more.

But. Today everybody has a slider. I agree with you, there is no reason not to vote. None.

Times do change. I'm glad you hung around long enough to dust up a post from the Jurassic.

You do have a point @bigtom13, 99% of the population were under 500 STEEM and unless you were one of these 'really weird people who used busy' then you had no slider.

I had invested even at 3 months in and did had maybe 1800 STEEM by then.

It still wound me up at the time heh...

Times change, but some people don't. Constant self-voting just seems desperate. You can get a reasonable return voting others whilst actually gaining some respect. I may have used up some Steem VP on my last few posts there, but I went many months with zero self-votes.

whilst actually gaining some respect.

That's the key, respect. It's worth a lot. I'm back to zero self-voting again now, though with the lack of steemworld it's hard to see what anyone is doing.

What instigated this article is a certain Steemian who visited my blog recently, commented and didn’t up-vote. I checked this person’s self-vote percentage and it was almost 94%.

Given how few people comment and that you haven't been posting that much recently, it really wouldn't be that hard to track them down anyway!

I've still got you on autovote, but I set my limit at 85% VP (nice feature) so it means they only trigger for everyone I've got on sometimes, it's a nice way of balancing auto with manual.

and that you haven't been posting that much recently,

I had a break when Hive was released, I knew it was going to be chaotic but it's been smoother than I expected.

I aim to be back to a post a day again now, though I'm trying to filter the Urbex material out slowly.

I have quite a backlog of explores to write up, but due to this lockdown thing, I cant do anymore.

I remember those days! They actually still happen from time to time. With all of the stake some of these people have to throw around, you would think they might be a littl more benevolent. Nice walk down memory lane!

It's good to bring back one of the old posts, I had little in the way of followers then. I'll aim for one a weekend, some of the early ones were terrible!

I should dig back into some of mine too. I did manage to have some gems back in the day. They never got the love they deserved though.

Is there any situation you can offer for covid-19.

Hive is a new blockchain and surely we did not want those set of.people again on hive

I don't think the virus is too fussy about which chain it inhabits. I was expecting someone on here to say 'I have covid-19' but haven't as yet.

I remember seeing comments from authors "Nice enough to comment but not vote?", most of the times it was directed toward the Nice Post type comments. I was one of those, still am, that like to comment, some days a lot, so in the early days I would run out of vote power, I always felt bad when I could not leave a vote on a post I commented on, but then I slowly got over it. Then I found and learned how to use the vote slider on steemworld, and it was never an issue for me again.

It's an old post and not so relevant now. I was more laughing at my arrogance, and being a relative newbie!

Mostly all I could think about while reading your psot was meesterboom's nice post and comment gif's, I tried to post it in my reply, but gave up after trying for about half an hour to get it to load.

Iam a manual curator and never have used auto vote. Maybe I should try it but just love to manual curate and comment so much. Have since my beginnings here

I wish I had the time, I do some but it gets a little much.

Now that steemworld is not at Hive...how do you check the selfvoting percentage?

I don't know of a way to do it anymore. Losing Steemworld was like a kick in the knackers.

agree

steemd keeps track of everything :)

and next week hive version of SteemNow will arrive! :)

It sounds good! 🤗

LOL I remember this post! and since that day, I have never commented without upvoting but I remember excusing myself by saying that in the rush to comment, we often forgot to upvote!
I will checkout your new community now and join in next week!

LOL I remember this post!

Haha, really?.. it was almost 2 years ago when I wrote it!

I appreciate your creativity, @slobberchops
