The bone of the debate was that African immigrants in the U.S only come to take away resources and make life difficult for the foundational black people. The big question was what is the benefit of immigration to black Americans. I’ll share my thoughts in my post sha

The Black Americans in America are a minority--less than 20% of the American population. Africans impact on the US economy is significant on a micro-level. Also, I don't think a minority group speaks for the whole of America. What we share with the Black community is race but when it comes to ideologies and values we are two different people. However, I did not want my post to be on the debate between the Africans and the Black Americans. I wanted a broader view of immigration and the positive and negative impact of diversity

Never really saw immigration from the perspective of homogeneity, I always looked at it as racism but then again I don't blame people from other countries who do not want Africans especially to come over, we do have a lot of bad reputation.

Never really saw immigration from the perspective of homogeneity,

Jordan Peterson has spoken on this subject a couple of times in his podcast and I do understand his point of view, but at the same time, we cannot mitigate growth which often is the product of work from diverse groups to preserve a homogenous group. I think it is a hefty cost to pay.

I don't blame people from other countries who do not want Africans especially to come over, we do have a lot of bad reputation.

The same way the first world countries have committed several atrocities in Africa. Even to date, Africa is been exploited by the west. It goes both ways. That doesn't mean there aren't people who are genuine about improving their lives and the communities they find themselves in if given a chance. Hive is a typical example of how diverse groups (even Africans) can work collectively to achieve something meaningful

Well, there are countries that aren't migrated to and they are still doing fine enough, here in Nigeria, we don't have much migration going on and we still have diversity in our culture.

The fact is, yes first world countries do a lot in Africa and yes, there are good people in Africa wanting to migrate but bad always overshadows the good and we are already in a disadvantaged position as Africans.

I understand why people would want to migrate, I was in that place a while ago so I'll always support it.

I (we) cannot control the narrative unfortunate but I certainly do not owe anyone any explanation, esp those who are not even actively contributing anything meaningful to their society about the merits of my involvement in their society. If I do find my way into a country legally and I am contributing positively to its growth and sustenance on a micro-scale, I think that is good enough. If people see Africans as a problem then that is on them really. I am not even trying to convince anyone otherwise.

certainly. if it takes going to a first-world country to better your life legally then take it by all means. borders are manmade, same with the construct of a state and patriotism. I do not believe in an unquestioned loyalty to a place, idea or people. If it is not a mutually beneficial relationship, any party involved has the right to opt-out at any given time.

Well, it isn't going to only be about you migrating legally but it Is also about the harm you could face, the crazy things that happen to immigrants are appalling.

If anyone feels like they aren't okay with where they are, then they should change it if possible, life shouldn't be that hard even though we make it.

True that. Which is makes it important to know where you are migrating to. Certain countries are a no-no to me.

Spot on!

A lot of countries are a no-no to me hence my sudden calmness for migration.

First of this immigration topic irks my soul. It is always a big deal when africans migrate overseas but if it’s the other way round it’s always nothing. Whether immigration is good or not as you said is based on perspectives .. To me anyway I feel immigration has done more good than harm a and that does not come from a place of bias. About the debate some weeks ago , I honestly do not see the reason why the so called foundational black Americans feel threatened by the exploits of immigrants; isn’t the land their foundational property in the first place why the hate ? I mean if immigration was a bad idea certain countries won’t be inviting foreigners over to their country to join their labor force. Uk for example granted many foreign doctors and nurses to join their medical labor force , that’s enough reason why immigration should not be frowned at.

That argument between AA and A is quite laughable. I didn't want to go that route with this post because I cannot comprehend the hate and misformination amongst the black community. I understand it but at the same time, it is quite sad.

Migration will continue esp in the US as it generates the government a lot of revenue. What's won't stop is the conflict between communities, that is why I don't fancy America that much. It's a great nation but it is dealing with a lot currently

Yeah right you are correct with the US having to deal with a lot currently, personally I would not consider it as an option when looking for countries to migrate to.

Immigration to the USA can be a slow and painful process. It reveals flaws in governance that can’t be mitigated easily especially with the volatility inherent in politics.

All habitants of a society consume resources that aren’t managed ideally: food, employment and housing to name a few. People immigrating, however, can also be a part of the problem. They immigrate to escape the hardships that drove them away only to yearn for the ideals of what they left behind.

Citizens already in place can be a problem as well. They want others to share in the great dream so long as they don’t give up their luxuries.

People need to wake up to the the reality that improvement requires sacrifice. Immigrating to a new land means there are new rules. Sometimes, you need to leave the past behind. Similarly, those wanting to create an avenue for immigration need to realize that balance is important.

This is a topic that will continue to be debated for centuries to come.

Nigerians will continue to leave. We have come to a point where the idea of moving out is ingrained in the thought process of most youths.
For one reason or the other Nigerians will keep moving out.
The receiving countries may seem to want to protest immigration, but ironically, they need us.
We have so much human capital, ready to get rewarded for offering what they have!

I understand immigration from the view of both parties. We are all protective of our space, most humans are not quite open to change and that is what happens when you have people from different backgrounds and cultures come into your space. However, with an open mind so much good can come from it.

There is always going to be this debate about immigration but one thing is sure we can't have our cake and eat it. There has to be a middle ground somewhere, a place where both parties don't feel cheated. moving to a new place means new rules and if you want people in your space then you have to be willing to accept them as they come.
