A musician is not the one who plays an instrument.
A musician is the one who through an instrument touches the soul and heart of people.
I saw this phrase a few years ago in a poster, though it was in Spanish: Músico no es aquel que toca un instrumento. Músico es aquel que a través de un instrumento toca el alma y el corazón de la gente.
I liked it immediately, as it is a very interesting and powerful message for us, musicians. Makes us think about how do we play and what impact do we have on others. Do we even have some impact on our listeners? If not, then what we do is just make noise. It can be pleasant noise, but still, touching the hearts and souls of our audience would be the only way to go.
Some ten days ago, I had a small recording session of a song that the local choir director needed for the rehearsals. He guides his choir very well and pays attention to expression and the message that the singers should transmit. A lot of details he works on with them... diction, breathing, phrasing, dynamics, expression and most of all, the story behind the music they are performing. This is actually the first step from where he starts. He tries to picture them the scenes and ambience, the feelings... all in an attempt to transform that group of singing people into a tool that transmits a deeper message and touches the hearts of the audience. Yes, he does it, and those were his words when we met to record the song. He asked me to play with the soul and touch the soul.
Well, I think I just could not have a better song to choose to play for this entry. The topic that @digitalopus has set for week 102 matches both that inscription I have seen and the way the director asked me to play the piece Alfonsina y el mar. I mentioned that composition in this post. The story behind it? The death of a poet, Alfonsina Storni. She threw herself into the sea in 1938 and went away with the waves forever. The Argentine composer and pianist Ariel Ramírez composed the music in 1969, upon the lyrics of Félix Luna. Mercedes Sosa was the first to perform it and the song was published in her album Mujeres Argentinas (Argentine women).
I don't usually share the lyrics of the songs lately, but this time, I think it is worth sharing at least the first verse, it IS touching somehow the souls. The rest of the lyrics can be seen here although it is in Spanish.
I hope this song could reach you and your imagination, and the story behind it touched your souls.
P.S. There is one thing that touched especially my heart today. A collaboration made with @jaydr, finally arrived at the scene of Hive Open Mic. I was very happy to see the published post, there were some inconveniences with the upload and I know how much work he has done to edit, compress, record and all. It was indeed touching to see the beautiful result of all that work.

If the musician lives to the story, if it feels it then the interpretation is spot on also. Without that "ingredient" it is hard to make others feel something while listening.

Que experiencia más hermosa la que vivirás, me emociona solo imaginarlo. Amé la dulzura, tristeza y fuerza que le diste a cada acorde. Alfonsina y el mar es una melodía que llega a la fibra más sensible pues la historia que la inspira es sumamente triste.

Estoy segura que será una experiencia inolvidable tocar con ellos Alfonsina y el mar.
Con el coro siempre lo pasamos muy bien, son divertidos y el director es una persona que aporta mucho valor a todo lo que trabaja.
El año pasado toqué varias piezas con ellos, una que se llama Negra Sombra, en el concierto , mientras tocaba disfruté tanto que tenía piel de la gallina y lagrimas en mis ojos. Me costaba leer las partituras de mis lagrimas...

No había escuchado esta canción, es verdaderamente hermosa.
Las dos versiones son estupendas. La primera está cantada de forma tan orgánica y esos golpes en la guitarra que hacen una maravillosa percusión añaden una sensación única, la segunda versión con varios artistas en escena también llena los sentidos <3. Negra Sombra me hizo recordar a un género musical folclórico de mi país (Venezuela) llamado Tonada.
Te comparto una tonada que lleva por nombre Tonada de Luna Llena del cantautor Simón Díaz, versionada en la voz de Karina, cantante icono de los años 80s en Venezuela. Si bien ella destacó en el género pop en español recientemente ha cantando otros estilos musicales de una bella forma.

Hi @mipiano! Touching, incredibly emotional and gracefully performed. I love this clean and well tuned piano sound so much, it's fantastic. I have been learning to play the keyboard for many years, I can create different melodies, sometimes even interesting ones. But full-fledged compositions are aerobatics for me, I hope someday I can do it like you, it's quite professional. I like the works of Joe Hisaishi, Ludovico Einaudi and many others, this is an interesting topic for me, 😃

The piano. I love to record with this digital piano but even more, I would like to have again a real piano. It is not possible at the moment because of the space in the apartment, but let's have hopes :D Lot more details I can hear and produce in a "real strings and real resonance" instrument.
Ludovico Einaudi :)) plenty of works I have already played and uploaded here, but at the moment nothing by Joe Hisaishi. Some of my students play [this](Joe Hisaishi) piece. But I will have a more detailed search through his compositions, and if I learn some and record&publish, I will mention you in my post :))
It's true, a real piano, unlike a digital one, is very bulky and takes up a lot of space! Hehe. What a beautiful melody, at times I felt in a movie but I could not decipher what genre, it is quite peculiar what this song conveys, nostalgia, sadness, but at times airs of hope, the truth left me a little out of place. I loved the way you played it, excellent as always.
Yes, the melody of this song is so nostalgic and sad, it truly represents the tragic fate of Alfonsina. That was the song I practised that day when I was cleaning the kitchen hahaha to release the stress 😂

I recall a day I was stressed out ayt work, a busy shift. I had a downloaded copy of one of your video and just listened to it. I don't know where the strength came from but I could see more patients all night long. You know how the work can be here.
