THE RETURN OF THE MOM...FRIENDS WITH FEATHERS

in Feathered Friends4 years ago

It's been awhile since farm-mom has felt the urge to express herself. She has been a very busy lady. #Farming and #homesteading takes a lot of work, and lots of time. Time well spent I can assure you of that, growing our own food has been top priority here at the farm. We are in full swing right now, either we make it or go bust.
Shortly after we returned to Upstate NY after a holiday in Florida last winter, the covid 19 virus hit New York city like torrent of natural disasters x 10.
New York was the epicenter of this awful virus. The city hospitals were overrun with patients, so sick, many did not survive.

Upstate was spared to a great degree, almost certainly because Upstate is largely farms, with big pieces of farmland, with mostly cows, ehem, and not a lot of people, at least where we live.

There are some new #featheredfriends that have come to our farm. While floating in the pond, one afternoon, this large winged thing burst out of the forest and just guided over the water, so beautiful, yet I think he was looking to grab a bass with his big talons.

Since that first sighting, we have watched this awesome bird, along with what we believe to be his mate, with two babies. We have seen them in the trees, hunting all over the homestead, standing in the road and even perched on @thebigsweeds truck.

What a beauty.

That same day I spotted another one, a little smaller perhaps, but just so awesome to watch.
I believe this is a Merlin, a member of the hawk family.

IMG_3492.JPG

We have noticed, squirrels and chip monks are no longer invading our bird feelers. I think they may have become bird food for our new neighbors, "The Merlins"

It seems these guys may be the newest members of the family.

Such a fun hobby, I am always on the look out for our friends with feathers, even when they are planning the heist of the pick-up truck.

He's on the look out for the state troopers who may be buzzing up the road at any minute.

OR, He maybe just looking for a little mouse to snack on.😋

Nature? Oh yes, it is truly #amazingnature. Love living on the mountain in the woods, never a dull moment, you never know what you will see when enjoying a warm summer day while floating on the pond.

Who could ask for more? I am blessed and hope all of my friends in hiveland find some peace through all that is happening in this crazy world of ours.

Keep the faith, stay safe and strive to be happy.🤗

Aww what a cute falcon. Hope it clears out some of the rodents.

Oh yes , we have already noticed a decline of squirrels and chip monks

Absolutely stunning!!

Good afternoon @therealmystery.
Thanks for reading my post. Yes, our new feathered neighbors have added some excitement to the homestead.
Very cool to watch them. When they take flight, their wing span is impressive and so beautiful to see.
Don't ya just love nature. We sure do.
#Hive a wonderful weekend. hehe

Loved the birds of prey, great photos!

Good day to you @pardinus, thanks for checking out my post.
Yes, those hawks are awesome. Their talons are impressive looking. They have helped keep the rodents down, which helps save some bird seed, which the squirrels and chipmunks love.
Have a happy weekend, be well!!

which the squirrels and chipmunks love

I bet the hawks love these two too! 😁 😁 😉

Oh for sure, the hawks just love our neck of the woods. Lots of good food.
Circle of life.
Thanks for stopping by, love the feed back.
Be well, strive to be happy.

Keep that falcon around and away from the Powerlines 😉 We have tons of hawks around here and they are all getting nice and fat due to the wheat harvest going on. When the wheat gets cut the gophers and mice have no place to hide. I counted 20+ hawks in one 20 acre field and a couple dozen flying in the air. I guess it was time to feast!!

Glad to see you guys are doing great and keeping that farm going. I got some salmon fishing coming up in September... I can’t wait.

OH man, salmon fishing? that's fantastic, nothing like a fresh, wild caught hunk of salmon, aweeee!
I can imagine those falcons could do some damage to power lines. Their talons are big and sharp looking.
We noticed an obvious decrease in squirrels and chipmunks, which is fine by us, they steal all the bird seed.
Hope you all are well and enjoying the summer. Stay safe!

So far this summer has been a busy for me at work. Instead of have 1 guy on standby for the weekend they decided to put 2 guys on standby for a whole week. Guys are getting tired of it and are giving their standby time away. It’s a free 2 hours of double time each day so.... it’s free money, just need to be available. If it’s free it’s me lol.
God Bless!!!

So now with all this extra money you should up your $10 Tuesday, hell go for $20 hehe
Good for you man...Enjoy!

You know it, I plan on stacking some more BTC and silver. Well the family has to go on vacation first. Hopefully dictators Inslee (Governor of WA) and Brown (Governor of Oregon) Don't shut down the beaches before then

Look at the hawk! wonderful. and as sweet as sharing. as if it was a beautiful day. Thank you and congratulations for sharing with us.

Hello there @hairofmedusa, nice of you to comment.
Those hawks are really awesome to watch, living in Upstate NY USA, nature is all around us.
We spent our days outside enjoying the nice summer weather, the blooming flowers and veggies growing like crazy.
Our farm offers peace and quite, beautiful environment and lots things to do.
Today we finished picking our wild blueberries, 50 lbs. now tucked away in our freezer to enjoy until next year.
Now, it's time to relax with a swim in the pond and an hour of just floating and who knows maybe another hawk sighting.
Have a fantastic weekend!

We have hawks here, but they are no match for all the chipmunks we have. I wish the coyotes were around...

Good day my friend, hope your crops are doing well, ours are really great this year.
Just today we finished our wild blueberry picking, hit our goal of 50 lbs.
Now it's onto blackberries and raspberries. Phew, anyone who says farming is easy as never done it.
We do love growing our food though, so for us it's never a chore, love being outside in nature.
As far as the rodents, those falcons have done a great job on them, it's cool having them around.
Enjoy the weekend!!

I agree! a lot of work, but so VERY worth it! We did the 68# of wild blueberries and that will be it this year for us. Just the stuff from the vegs and dehydrating herbs now...

Oh yes, we have our fill of blueberries now. Now we are just trying to keep up with the veggies and herbs too. Don't ya just love it. My cucumbers are over running us, any ideas how to preserve them ? Going to google that one.
Nice to hear from you.

I've turned mine into something approaching 30 quarts of bread and butter pickles, as you will see with today's post... You can also turn the same recipe into relish by grinding it before cooking. In the past I've made nearly the same of garlic dills, and if my 2 hills of cukes keep producing, I may make some for Christmas presents. I still have dills from last year, so hadn't planned to make any more for us.

There's always cool cuke soup for these hot days....

I like birds of prey in a special way. They look intimidating, formidable, graceful. Great post and photo!

Hello, good day to you. Thanks for reading my post, really appreciate you stopping by.
Yes, those big beautiful birds are so fun to watch, I get excited to see birds of prey, this year has been really awesome with birds and all kinds of new sightings. Just last week while riding my quad I caught a beautiful golden fox running across the road, I followed him and he actually stopped up in the woods and stared me down. Unfortunately ,I didn't have my camera with me.
Hope you have a great weekend.

What beautiful birds they are! Fantastic photos, and you may be right about the pick up truck heist! I'm so happy to see a post from you here. I know that summer times are really busy for you guys, but it's great to hear that things are going well.

Good afternoon @melinda010100, glad you enjoyed the photos. What a cool bird family to watch. Just love when a new one shows up out of the woods.
we have been so busy with blueberry picking, we just hit our goal today, 50 lbs. Yipee!
Now we move on to raspberries and blackberries. Farming and gardening take a lot of time, but once the fall hits and our freezer is full, we can relax and post a little more.
Thanks for dropping by and tx for the !tip.
Enjoy your weekend!!

I love all these images Robin; I wish you had more time to come around.
Upvoted and reblogged @farm-mom ♥️

Hello my friend, yeah, we are just so busy this time of year with our gardens and preserving food for the year.
We just finished picking our wild blueberries, we were so pleased with this years haul, our goal was 50 lbs., ended up with 56 lbs. We're pumped.
Those birds were cool right? We love when we can catch something out of the ordinary on the farm.
Nice to hear from you, be well !!

Love from your virtual friends who just touched down in Fla on Friday. ❤️

OMG!! You two finally made it out of England, wow. I bet you never would have believed you would be stuck there for so long. Glad you are back in the USA, BUT you do know we are not out of the woods yet with the covid 19 virus.
Do not let your guard down, be smart, be safe.
Hugs to you both!!

Covidiot? Nah.. never heard of it.

@dandays come back home will ya, at least you are in the states now.
WELCOME HOME!! Hugs

Mwah! Can you tell I’m a little closer? 😉

hahaha Where in Florida are you? The sweed said you were looking to end up in Tennessee.
Good luck with your plans.
Always nice to hear from you.

@farm-mom, it’s always my pleasure. Yes, we’ll ‘settle’ in Nashville if that’s what it’s called. I’m just calling it a 10 year parking spot.

In Ft Lauderdale today. Did some car shopping and parasailing in Clearwater yesterday. Please give @thebigsweed some knuckles for me. I keep tellin that dude ima pass one around with’em, I truly hope we get the chance.

God bless the farm!

Your friend,
Arts

Great to see you flew back home to HIVE again!

I'm totally enjoying all of your fun aviary, floral and, my personal favorite, grandbaby photos! @farm-mom 🦅🌹👶🧒

Good morning @ninahaskin, thanks for checking me out.
Yes, life has been good to us, we so enjoy nature, and the freedom that comes with living on our farm in our retirement.
My grandkids are my heart, love them so much, thanks for your nice comments.
Have a wonderful day!

What lovely birds! We have quite a few hawks around here, though I haven't seen the big beautiful owls in just a while. And I have no doubt this is a very busy time on the farm! We are enjoying some good harvests from our own small backyard garden while also planning out a few things to plant for the fall. Away from all the madness is a great place to be right now. Georgia has unfortunately been making the news in a bad way lately, but I'm keeping my head down and staying in my tiny little circle of friends and family. Hope the whole family is doing well!

Good morning to you. Glad you are being smart and keeping your circle tight.
Having a garden of any size can be rewarding and relaxing.
Love when you get that first ripe tomato, oh soooo good.
Thanks for stopping by, always fun to hear from you.
