First hair dresser visit in Spain - Churros afterwards!

Hello Friends & Family community members!

I recently discovered this community and subscribed because I have family and friends related content more often, I had no clue there was a community for that though! So here I am, writing in the community for the first time. Hopefully, I can connect with some new people here, which would be nice!

Hair dresser visits

We probably all know very well that visiting a hair dresser has become even more of a luxury thing to do when the pandemic hit the world. I did not have that much issues with it during the longer periods of staying at home mostly. I simply didn't wear my hear loose so it was not really noticeable. When there were special moments, of course, we went there, like when daughter would have school pictures taken or her birthday and stuff like that.

Nightmare hair dresser experiences

For four and a half years straight, I have had nothing but bad experiences with hairdressers in Budapest. And I was not alone in this, it's by far the most read complaint over the years on many online groups. This didn't give me much confidence to visit any of them. I had one horrible experience that was so bad, where the hair dresser kept on correcting the cutting of my hair in layers. It was done so bad, not even a student at a hairdressing college has ever managed to mess it up this badly. But it would have been better if it was a student, at least the teacher would have been there to correct it, haha.

New country, new hair dresser needed

I've been wanting to go to one ever since we arrived in June, but I was afraid to try one, lol. None of them have prices inside the window for us to see either, so I kept postponing. Not the smartest idea because all of our hair grew like madness and we're constantly too hot so putting up our hair when we can. Yesterday, I felt we needed to take the step and try a hair dresser, we went to the one halfway downhill and made an appointment for today. The prices were surprisingly lower than I expected, like two for the price of one lol.

Mommy-daughter time

This morning both of us went to the hair dresser, dad will go tonight as he had to work during the morning. Everything about this visit was better than every visit we had at all hair dressers in Hungary! The hair dressers were friendly, and instead of cutting for 1,5 hours, we both were done within the hour. I don't think it was more than 45 minutes actually but I didn't check what time they started cutting us. Thankfully, here they understood that it's best to cut us at the same time, while in Hungary, the ladies preferred chatting and smoking while letting me wait until daughter was finished. That just doesn't work for me, especially not if it takes this long to cut one person.

Braids

They asked if my daughter wanted her hair braided, she saw another kid having it and I noticed she loved it so I agreed. Check out how that turned out:

Kid happy, and I loved how her hair stayed curly all day. We normally put the hair in a tail because of the heat, so it's always straight. Today she added a bit of cream in her hair (I haven't see what, my daughter told me) and she's been a curly head all day now.

We had churros

A few weeks ago, my daughter noticed a sign of churros at one of the restaurants next to this hair dresser. I promised her to have a look there before school starts and today I decided we'd sit there for a bit before going home. Churros and chocolate for the lady it was and for me churros and coffee.

Matching hair bow

As her hair looked so cute and she felt so proud of her hair all braided, I decided to get the matching hair bow I recently bought for her dress:

She loved her hair so much that I feel it's time for me to start braiding her hair again. She used to not be able to sit still for more than 30 seconds when I tried, but she's proven that she can now. Just in time for school!

All ladies of the family are happy with today's visit to the hair dresser. Let's see if daddy is just as happy when it's his turn tonight. I sure hope so!

Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Love the braid, that looks beautiful! So great that you and your daughter had a lovely experience, that is just how it should be.

I have very curly hair and when I was younger, it was a nightmare going to the hairdressers, they had no idea how to cut and style it. I often ended up with a meringue on my head (something like Marge Simpson), which, of course, turned into a tangled birds' nest the very next day and had no idea what it was supposed to be when it got round to me washing it.

In later years, I learned how to manage it and how to find hairdressers who understood its characteristics. Occasionally, I went along with something when I should have said no, like the time my regular hairdresser had to go on maternity leave earlier expected and someone else was delegated to cut my hair. I should have known there was a reason why she was available at short notice.

When I moved back here, 22 years ago, I insisted on a consultation with the new hairdresser and explained the terrible time I'd had (I had to say something about the ridiculous haircut I had, I couldn't allow a new hairdresser to think I had chosen to have that done). She was great and we've been working together ever since.

Chocolate and churros are the perfect finish!

Thank you! I agree, it was quite the bummer that it was such a disappointment every time. At some point it seemed there literaly was not one hair dresser that knew what he or she was doing, that's bad!

I can imagine that you need some skills for it, I never really thought of this being a possible issue for at least my daughters hair though, because we rarely see it curled up longer than an hour. I do love how it looks so we may just show the curls more often :)

You did the smart thing there with the consultation, glad this works out for you now. I'm hoping we will all be happy with this one for the time being so I won't have to find another one, lol.

Oh what an awesome day! Mom and daughter treat yourself time including churros! I love it! And her braid and matching bow turned looks so fabulous, as does that gloriously creamy looking coffee. I think I would go broke on coffees in Spain lol lol!

So glad your first hairdresser experience in Spain was so positive and that you both had a great day😊

She is just adorable! Sounds like a lovely Mother-Daughter day. I remember my Mom's mother coming over on school mornings and braiding our hair. There are four of us. I imagine her hands were very sore by the time she got done. We all have very thick hair and at that time very long hair too. Some people are just not meant to do that kind of work.

Thank you! Oh that must have been very difficult for her to do a few kids in the morning, I remember doing that every day for my oldest who had long hair, it can be a daunting task!

This tiny one usually wants her hair in a tail anyway so that's a quicker fix but now that she discovered she likes the curls, it will mean a little more work for me I guess.. but hey, it looks cute so worth it. haha

You're welcome. Well if we didn't sit still the hair brush was used in another way. 😂😂😆 I learned to sit still fairly quickly. It took me till adulthood to stop fighting my curls. I use a spray on conditioner right out of the shower and let my hair just dry naturally.
Enjoy your day and the week ahead, @thisismylife!
