We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.

We Talk Friday Ep. 31: Let Sleeping Dogs
Since today is a special day for my family, as we have now got Puusti the dog, I thought I would open up the conversation to uncover some memories from you, the audience. What I am looking for is a funny or interesting experience you have had with a dog or cat that you want to share with the world. Pets tend to create a lot of positive experiences and perhaps in today's world, it might be as close as some people get to experiencing love.

When I was a kid, one of the dogs we had was a "bitsa" a mixed breed that was a bit of this and a bit of that. It was a sheepdog at heart, but it was insane. I was scared of it. And one day, my brother and I were "trapped" in an old cubbyhouse with the dog prowling outside, biding its time, wating for us to emerge so it could devour us. This thing was fast! It was named King,
So, my older brother decided the plan for us to escape would be he would call it to one side window, while I went out the door and made a dash for a large tree at the front of our yard, which was about 200 meters away.
Great plan, bro!
So he called King and the dog went to the window, jumping up and trying to get in while I first crept through the door and then put all I could into making a run for the tree. It didn't take a moment for King to realise he had been tricked and came after me. And while as a kid I was pretty bloody quick myself, within a few moments, I could hear him closing in on me, his panting, his tongue slapping around his crazy face, and the rhythmic thud of his paws on the burnt summer ground.
I could see the tree.
It was so close and with my heart pounding, I dared to believe that I was going to make it in time. I had beaten the King. Yet, I had counted my chickens, but they hadn't hatched yet and just as I was a couple steps from the tree, King being the sheepdog he was, bit my ankle and the shock of it made me lose my footing and instead of a graceful swing into the tree, I thumped my forehead square on the flat surface where my father had cut a dead branch away a few days earlier.
I wasn't seriously hurt.
Though I was heavily dazed. Yet even in a near fugue state, the fear of the real danger was still ahead, that King would finish me off. From my sprawled position in the dusty grass, I looked up and saw King staring down at me, but instead of a snarling face, there was a look of complete contentment of a job well done. And from my perspective at least, he nodded his head and then trotted off back in the direction to get my brother.
With the bait already taken, my brother had already made it safe into the house.
Stupid dog.
So what story do you have?

One morning we kids woke to find a turd on the bathroom floor. Assuming it was one of our parents, both of whom were enthusiastic drinkers, we went to confront them. Only when they swore blind it wasn’t them did we realise that it was the dog that had been caught short and had the good manners to use the bathroom.
Oh my... I think if the first thought is "one of the parents" they must have been very enthusiastic drinkers indeed!
A bit like the scene from "Meet the Parents" with the cat using the toilet ;D
My father already had form. More than once he fell asleep on the toilet, toppled off, and ended up wedged against the door so nobody could get into the bathroom until he finally resurfaced the next morning
When i was much younger, there was a dog in our area called Alhaji. Not because he traveled to Makkah but because he behaved like a respected elder. He walked slowly, and only barked when necessary and i was very young then and So I thought, “Ah, this dog must be friendly.”
One evening, I decided to show love, the same way i used to see in American movies then and pet it. He started barking with the so much energy and chased me and even bit me a little. Since thay day i've maintained and always been a cat guy and I never fall for the it doesnt bite gimmick that people say.
It's the name of the dog for me 😅
At least you learnt your lessons
What does Alhaji mean?
Gotta be careful with unfamiliar dogs - always ask the owner if it is okay to pat! I used to be more a cat person, but I grew up with both cats and dogs. In Finland, all pets are indoor pets, so I am only keen on small ones :)
ow sorry! i should have put more context, Alhaji is anyone who has done the islamic pilgrimage, its an esteemed title
I had a very beautiful encounter with Lion at first, but it all changed when he completed forgot who I was. Lion was my Bosses dog, and it was a baby before I went for my one year NYSC program. On coming back, the little puppy had grown into a giant creature, but I never knew it has completely forgotten me until I realised. I went to the house to pick up some goods that just arrived, the driver who also was familiar with Lion came out from the bus to play with it. At first I was amazed at how much it had grown, but on coming out, I was attacked by the creature that use to be very friendly to me. It almost bit off my right leg as I speedily found my way back to the bus. It eventually got my slippers, and I learnt my lesson too.
That sounds horrible! I wouldn't trust a big dog's memory though.
Do you have a fear of dogs now, or is it okay?
Not really, that was not enough to make me develop phobia for that. But the moment was really scary, I never came out of the bus every again when I ever I visited my bosses house except Lion was locked
Funny it is that pets can go from being sweety to terrifying in seconds. I bet most of us run away from our neighbor's dog, and found ourself tumbling into the bushes :)
Oh, King was a terror! So much so, it ended up being put down - not by us - by the one who sold it to us and who tried to train it! The thing really was insane.
Wouldn't have said it any better, pets these be are the closest some are getting to any form of love experience. Everyone's busy and just get someone to genuinely have fun with ain't easy unless you say I'll watch Netflix with you and they'll tell you to shut up while the movie is playing 😒
You spend time with some strange people!
Used to till I matured enough to know who from who and chose better ones, still though I'm learning as I grow who the real ones are
Dogs are very loyal animals but there are some crazy dogs that are different. I decided to adopt a puppy when I was very young but within a few days it bit my hand when I was feeding it. Since then I have never adopted a dog. Moreover, my family does not like them because when I was a child, one of my cousin's sons died from a dog bite.
I was doing an install at a house back in the day and this guy had a German Shepard that kept biting my leg. The guy thought it was hilarious, but the dog ruined the leg of my pants. I probably should have went and gotten a shot after that, but I didn't.
