When you are prepping to bug out, don't forget your feet!

There is a lot of posting on bug out bags, and bugging out for greener pastures; but they miss one of the most important items!

Unlimited planning will do you little good, if you can't actually reach your 'greener pastures'. The most important thing (after water of course), is your FEET! Take care of them, because it is hard to crawl to your greener pastures.

You will be carrying more than normal, for significant distances. The best protection for your feet is a good pair of shoes with ankle support, that are well broken in. The second best add is proper Socks...TWO pairs.

The first pair should be as thin as possible, to allow movement between ths socks. This movement, in a proper shoe; will be minimal, and will avoid blister formation. Thin and slick socks are the most important sock, and the most often overlooked!

If you can't find these thin socks, knee length panty hose will work too.

The second pair should be as thick as possible:

This pair is the padding that fills the shoe, and absorbs the impact while walking. With the different socks, working together; your feet are very well protected!

Keep several sets of these socks in your bug out bag in case your feet get wet. Keeping them dry is also very important, so keep your bug out footware well oiled, and dry!

Treat your feet right, and they will take you to those greener pastures; if not, all the planning in the World won't help you get there....

Excellent advice 👍

Take care of your feet, and they will take care of you.

This is good sound advice. Getting about on feet that are less than good condition is unpleasant. Nice post!

I have watched (and learned) from prepper videos on bug out bags, and they never seem to address this aspect. They end up with 50 pounds of supplies, and intend to walk 20 to 100 miles; on feet they ignore!

They need to give them a little love first....

This is true...Also an aspect I don't see a lot of people focusing on when it comes to SHTF scenarios is mental health or stability. Being a lone for long periods of time or dealing with brutality that may not be part of one's normal life, constant stress and strain...It will bring issues and I've rarely seen anyone raise it. There's loads of talk about more guns and ammo though. Lol.

The mental difficulties that will result from a SHTF scenario will take decades to work through! A significant part of my prepping supplies are table games and communication devices. Interactions with others will remain important, for planning snd mental health.

There can never be too much talk on guns and ammo!

I need to post again, since my shoe selection was not covered....

Looking forward to shoe posts!

I'll do that post tonight, they are important too!

I didn't really think much of it, but its definitely some good information. Just like in Medieval times, they would wear their loose garments below their chainmail to protect them and to allow for mobility (plus apparently having long hair and chest hair being pulled by the chainmail is quite bothersome).

I typically don't go hiking since many roads here are paved, but for sure even on paved roads more cushion for your feet will definitely make a walk a little easier. It may lead to stinkier feet, but that's the least of ones worries if 'shit hits the fan' so to speak.

My Son made chainmail, and with my beard; I can verify that's true, LOL!

I don't hike as much as I should, but my bug out bag is just a little different.

But I still take care of my feet!
