Fitting everything into my life is sometimes difficult and occasionally things need to take a back seat to more important ones, no matter how much I may want to get into them. My McLaren F1 Lego Technic build is one such thing; it's been collecting dust for a few weeks...but on the weekend I brushed it off and completed the penultimate stage of the build.
In this build-stage the front wing, sidepods, rear air deflector and floor went on went on along with a few other things that set it up for completion in stage four. Now it actually looks like an F1 car. Below are a few work-in-progress shots from Sunday.
There were some cool technical elements which I love as it adds a bit of challenge to it and, yep, I had to backtrack on one occasion as I'd placed two small connecting pieces in the wrong location by only one hole and that buggered up the sidepod installation. It took me around twenty frustrating minutes to dismantle it a little to gain access to the parts then change them. No worries though, it's all part of the fun.
I'm resisting the strong urge to put the wheels and tyres on, because that'll be a bloody awesome moment, and have been successful to date, but only just. There's only one stage of the build left now and I think I'll be able to wait it out to the end to put the wheels and tyres on and finally complete the build.
I really dig the front wing on this build, it looks super cool, and was kind of exciting to build knowing it was going to look so sexy. It'll not sit this low to the ground when completed of course, one the wheels are on, but it looks kind of fucken sexy right? Come on, you know it does. Ok, maybe you don't think so, but I do.
As always, I like to do a perspective photograph to demonstrate the overall size and when the model is completed I'll do the same with a ruler. You can see it here with my hand and arm for perspective though which will give you an idea how big it is.
When I've got it complete I'll get some better shots with my camera to show it off a little better and to photograph the intricate gearing and all which is underneath the car, these ones are taken with my phone, and inside my house, and I don't really have the right light for it. I'll grab some better shots for the next post.
I'm starting to think about my next build now and am toying with the idea of not doing a Technic build although this bulldozer seems to be calling my name. I'll think on it over the next few weeks and see what happens though. Besides, before I go down that path I need to finish this one which I hope to do over the next couple of weeks.

It is looking awesome! I agree with you on the front being sexy...I mean it's not a real F1 but for a Lego build, it's up there for sure.
I can imagine you just itching to put the wheels on, but I'm glad you're going to force yourself to wait. The sense of satisfaction you will get at the end is going to totally be worth it.
One must pace oneself when so much sexiness is on offer lest one prematurely wheelfitulate.

Backtracking is part of the fun but oh man, the anguish you get until you finally find the bit that is wrong is quite the feeling! Loooking good so far!
Yeah man, it's all part of the
frustrationfun of it and I'd not have it any other way. I'm hoping to have this one done by the end of this weekend and then...yep, I'll buy another.You will have to build an outhouse of some description to display them all. Better yet, start an exhibition and start charging!
Oh yeah man, I need a whole other house for them. I like the exhibition idea. I can use the proceeds
for my futurefor more Lego.It would become a self enforcing loop!! Lol. Not a bad thing

It is a work of patience, perseverance, and excellent de-stressing for the number of pieces involved in its construction.
It's been really fun to build. I'll complete it this Sunday I think, unless something else comes up I have to do, which is likely I guess. We'll see.
I guess you already have other pieces ready for the exhibition of the Lego works, I will see them in this open window in the hive.👏

Yeah, it sure needs a little dedication and effort, but I don't see it as hard work, to me it's fun.

I wonder how many weeks it takes to complete one project. From the stataement that you had to spend twenty frustrating minutes to just dismantle and re-adjust some mistake. And dismantling would mean that you already know those parts. I wonder how long to figure them out in th first place.
And are these ughhh...builds, I don't wanna say toys, remote controlled? Like with some app or an actual controller?

This McLaren F1 is not RC though.
This F1 car will take me about twenty hours although some have taken much longer as it all depends on how many pieces are involved.
My oh my... that one is really big😁😁 And it is RC? Wow! These LEGO builds are so not like the ones I grew up knowing.
You sure must have some LEGO room for all your collections, especially the ones that are not RC.
Twenty hours is a lot. You must really enjoy the thrill of it all.
I'd like to commend the photography too. I love lighting you have too. It makes the photos pop.
When I was a kid my parents couldn't afford Lego sets so we'd scour the local papers for second had mixed Lego which my brothers and I used to make the most of. As an adult I stopped building Lego but went back to it some time ago and have enjoyed every moment. I'm now able to afford brand new Lego sets so I buy them. It's just one of the things that makes feel happy and I I believe I deserve that feeling.

I guess there's this burning passion in kids that just cannot be quenched. Somethings they love may just never leave them. Now, you can afford them all you want and can get all the Lego you love, and make yourself happy all you can.
People mention kids in respect of Lego, but I think fun isn't the sole domain of kids at all, and one should never lose one's sense of fun, no matter where it comes from. Once one loses their sense of fun, well I guess it's time to die.

Galens Lego build is simply boys being boys and having fun fun time. Lego in a way is like a time machine for me to go back to childhood for some reason.

I didn't realise you built Lego. I do so many different things, and Lego is one of them. I love it.
I have an almost 12 year old and LEGO has always been "or" thing.
We still build it. I took some videos of one of our sessions. I'll post them over the weekend :)

And the big sets I got him were broken down within days.
I was devastated. Especially the Harry Potter and the big Marvel one i got him. It has pulleys and all sorts. Rhino, Sandman... it went on.
But, like to good mom I smiled and let him make his own thing.
