Posts and Comments on Hive by Application

in HiveSQL4 years ago

Which applications are being used to enter posts and comments to the Hive blockchain?

The data range is from the 21st March 2020 (first full day of Hive) to 1st May 2020.

Posts

Also known as top level comments or comments at depth 0.

As you would probably expect, hive.blog and peakd take up the lions share with two thirds of all posts coming from these two applications. The next two, actifit and esteem, are mobile apps, which we likely need more of as time goes on.

investarena (https://investarena.com/) is a new one to my and I'm surprised to see it so high in the list.

I believe steemit is there due to people updating posts originally created on this interface?

The chart above shows the daily count of posts produced by the more popular applications. Interesting to see that following the recent publicity/price move that the 'home' application hive.blog overtook peakd on the daily count.

esteem is doing best of the rest and has steadily risen over the past 6 weeks or so.

Comments

Also known as replies.

peakd and hive.blog still lead the way but have less of a market share when compared to posts. esteem is doing pretty well as the dominant mobile app. A null application source could well be automated comments, waivio comments look automated too.

Discord - you can comment from Discord?

Somewhat outside of the overall trend, the comments from a null (automated?) application source are on the rise, as well as those from esteem.

Small plug for @dapplr, a mobile application under development that looks rather nice: https://peakd.com/dapplr/@dapplr/dapplr-first-design-based-app-being-built-on-hive

Have a nice weekend all,

Asher

Sort:

A bit of a shame Engage is nowhere to be seen on the comments chart... or is this only for top level comments?

These are the applications used to post/comment. Do you mean Engrave? :)

Enage, arcange's tool (which I'm using here to reply to you 😉)

Ahh!

There's no meta data :( @arcange should be able to sort that.

... until then, that's part of the "null" percent, which was almost as surprising as "discord", but rishi556 cleared out the latter in a comment, possibly.

Nice charts Asher! :)

Cheers :D

Damn, I need to fix that!

I thought you might find the comment in the end :D

Done!

.

I think I know where the comments that come from discord are coming from.

https://github.com/Rishi556/Votefun/blob/master/index.js#L321-L322

I made votefun be able to leave comments on posts, and I know that its being used. I assume that they didn't change it and so it just marks the comment as coming from discord. It's the only one with a capital first letter like I wrote it as well, so I'm like 90% sure of that's the origin.

I saw the discord and got so confused now I get it!

Ahh, nice :) Thanks for the info.

I'm kinda surprised by the recent rise. I wonder if a bigger community set it up. Might have to get HIVESQL for a day and learn SQL to see all posts made using it.

When it comes to comments, apps that notify you of comments on your posts right within the app (esteem and peakd) are naturally going to have a leg up. You know when you need to reply to someone's comment to you. This is especially important in conversation threads on the main post of someone else.

Yes that's a valid point. Both hive.blog and peakd.com have the notifications section, which i will use when on the phone. For the laptop, I use gina and point that to open peakd. I think peakd are working on an app (I seem to remember seeing them looking for a mobile app. developer), this could well end up being very popular.

Quite a lot of surprises in there - that people are still using Hive Blog for a start rather than Peakd!

And I've never heard of that investawhatevermathingybobthing either.

It's probably the whole PAL crew using Discord to do the commenting, I'm sure if you drop in on @crimonsclad's show tonight you could find out how it's done, someone with the knowledge is bound to be kicking around!

I use hive.blog at times and quite like the simplicity.

Bit busy tonight, got a few zoom beer meetings to attend :D

I also got to wondering whether those Steem posts might also be actifit - you post to Steem through the app, then it posts to Hive, I think.... maybe that's doubling up in your analysis?

There should be a post on Steem and a post on Hive, I think. @mcfarhat should be able to clarify.

Thanks for compiling this. Good to see the uptick. Lets hope we can keep up the momentum as the price settles into a new trading range.

Hey there, here @lizanomadsoul from HiveBuzz Team 🙂

Great job @abh12345! You have my full respect for that achievment! 😉

Thanks Liz!

I'm looking forward to ones relating to comments and replies :D

😉👍 I ll work on that😇❤️

That's a great news. I will definitely give a trial soon.

Not surprised to see Esteem doing more in the comment/replies side. it is more convenient for reading and interacting with posts, rather than for making the actual posts.

Steadily climbing by the looks of it, although the recent spike has played a part too.

Who knew Discord was such a big fan of Hive! I guess that's where all the chat happens until Openseed have that chat app they were talking about...

Interesting to know about dapplr... I used Partiko when that was still developed and running as a mobile app but not used it for a long time now. If dapplr is going to be the next mobile app, then that's great news, will have a look at that link you shared and see what's happening there!

Got a comment regarding the Discord 'app'.

Yeah, I think the door is wide open for a sweet, simple looking app. Hopefully these guys can do a decent job.

So I see, there's some clever people around that can navigate Discord like that!

Yeah I'll be keeping a look out and following them, thanks for mentioning them!

Wow lovely information @abh12345!

It is lovely to see that many dapps are used, and I also like the spike in comments!

Yep, the more the merrier for sure :D

The more interacting interfaces the better for Hive. it is nice to see so many different options to use and connect to the Hive Block Chain.

For sure. A killer app would be nice, but it's good to see plenty of routes in, and I hope there are more as we go.

great stats my friend! i'm still with esteem but there have been a few glitches, i might have to transfer to peakd. also esteem needs to be rebranded ehive, c'mon all ready !

i liked engrave last year, but there was no support, so i don't know if it will be any better now

PEACE !

Cheers buddy :)

I saw a post by stellabelle regarding eSteem's current branding and agree it could do with a facelift.

Engrave is still going with 602 posts in the time-frame covered, but only 26 comments.

Asher-read it as Esteem, as in 'I hold you in high regard' and I rather like it and find it fitting to the community.

Ah yes, that makes sense! I think I knew that but forgot :D

Peakd is turning out to be everyone's favorite no doubt at all :)
