Ever had that feeling like you're stuck and you just need to escape the same old boring daily routine? Like, seriously, who hasn't dreamt about feeling the cool wind brushing through their hair or between their fingers, or the sweet hum of the road beneath their wheels? If that's got you saying "yes', then let me introduce you to this awesome idea: Motorcycle Therapy.

The Call of the Open Road

Let's picture this for a sec: You're riding on a motorcycle, the engine roaring underneath you like a contented beast. The road stretches out ahead with bending corners through ever-changing landscapes, each kilometres offering something new yet uncertainty. The world isn't just a static image or a frame in front of you; now it's a 360-degree panorama of life in its fullest. This, my HIVE friend, is the essence of what many have come to know as "Motorcycle Therapy".

Motorcycle Therapy isn't just about riding a bike. It's the beginning or an epic journey, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. It's about shaking off the chains of everyday life, stepping out of your comfort zone, and embracing the uncertainty that the open road offers. It's about discovering your true self while riding along to the rhythm of your journey, and finding solitude only the open road can offer.

So, What's the Science Here?

You might be thinking, "That sounds fantastic, but is it true? Is there any solid evidence supporting the therapeutic benefits of motorcycle riding? Well, let's discuss about that, through some research.

Studies found that activities that need focus and physical engagement, like motorcycle riding, can positively impact mental health. Riding demands your full attention, coordination, and quick decision-making, which can help distract from negative thoughts and lower stress levels. Personally, it's a great break for me who is at a constant screen-time (has been showing improvement and reduce screen time), I'm sure many had this issue too. The sense of freedom and control that comes with a ride can also boost your self-esteem and mood.

Plus, motorcyclists are often less impacted by traffic jams, tolls, and parking headaches compared to car drivers. Bikers can easily weave through traffic congestion (for some countries are illegal thou), saving time and cash on petrols. In some places like Malaysia, bikers don't even have to pay highway tolls. And finding a parking space? Not a problem for bikers, while car drivers often struggle to find a spot.

Taking the Road Less Traveled

Let me share a personal experience. For over a decade, I was a car guy who enjoying speed. Every now and then, there's the thrill of flooring the gas to the metal letting the engine roar on an open B-road or highway, but those roads were usually crowded. Despite being in a car, we're often fiddling with our phones even while driving, knowingly the danger that poses to us and other road users.

Just a few months back, a buddy of mine (you know who you are 😏) suggested, or rather enticed me, to consider learning to ride a motorcycle. He highlighted how practical and cost-effective bikes can be, especially when traveling abroad. This encouragement and some self-motivation led me to explore the concept of Motorcycle Therapy.

Embracing this new adventure, I got second-handed bike (coincidentally comes with 520km clocked on it) and took riding lessons (still gotta pass that test, though). I started taking some road trips without a specific destination in mind. The experience was mind-blowing. The act of riding, connecting with nature, and the freedom I felt was like therapy for my soul. This journey of self-discovery gave me a fresh outlook on life and drastically reduced my screen time, helping me combat my phone addiction along the process.

What's Next?

So, if you're feeling stuck in life's routine, why not give Motorcycle Therapy a try? It might not be a magic fix-it-all, but hey it's a start to a journey that might lead to self-discovery and personal growth. Who knows, the open road could be the best therapist out there afterall. You could even make new friends and create unforgettable memories along the way. They say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", but I'll say, "A ride a day keeps your mental strength at play."

Before we wrap up it, let's not forget our priority - safety first. Always ride defensively and gear up, especially your helmet. Follow the traffic rules and respect the road. Because the journey isn't just about reaching your destination—it's about enjoying the ride.

If you're planning to share your epic biking journey or want to show off your ride to the community, don't forget to use the 'motorcycle' or 'motorcycletherapy' tags on your HIVE post. Motorcycle Therapy isn't just about the thrill of riding or mode of transport. It's about the journey, the freedom, and voyage of self-discovery. So, when sharing your experiences or your bike's beauty, help spread the passion and let others join you on your journey. The road awaits, so what are you waiting for? Your journey awaits, let's hit it together.
