Hiking from Mount Lofty Summit to Waterfall Gully

There are many hiking spots around Adelaide and I've only done Mount Lofty hike once. It was over 4 years ago I think, so it was about time to do it again.

My friends Helen and Yoni, who were both off work on the day, decided to join me. It was a perfect day for a hike that requires more effort than usual - it's a steep hike and takes about an hour going up. So having a cloudy, warm but not too hot day, was perfect!

For some weird reason, I always end up in the wrong spot to park. There are so many different tracks and I rely on google maps too much.

So this time I ended up parking at the very top of Mount Lofty (where we were expecting to head to by foot!). So, obviously made my friends laugh by doing so and instead of the usual hike where you start at the bottom, head up and have a coffee from the cafe on the top, then head back down, we did the complete opposite. Oh well, I always like to be different than most people, so it's ok :D

Soooo, this is where we started. At the very top :D

There is a cafe and a gift shop, toilet and of course a nice view of the city. The peak rises more than 710 m above sea level.

The Mount Lofty Summit track is about 4.5 km and takes a couple of hours. We didn't need to rush so we just took it easy. As mentioned earlier, there are many different tracks you can follow, but we decided to do the most popular one, where we headed down to Waterfall Gully. The track is easy to follow, there are no entry fees and you will see some amazing views, beautiful surroundings and don't be surprised to spot some wildlife on the way.

We spotted quite a few birds feeding on some fruits that probably hikers left behind, and some of them were not too bothered by our close presence.

There were a few kangaroos we saw too, and most of them weren't too scared at all. They stayed really close to us and gave us a chance to take some nice pictures.

And the way he/she goes!!

As we got close to the bottom, we made it to one of the first waterfalls there. It is such a beautiful spot and so peaceful listening to the sounds of water and birds singing around it.

At the bottom, there is another waterfall that is one of the biggest ones. It is a pretty popular spot for weddings and special occasions.

Funny enough, a few years ago I applied for a job at a restaurant there, I didn't end up working there but I assume it would be pretty nice to have all this nature surrounding my work place.

Thanks Helen for making sure I don't fall :D

Some of the areas look so gorgeous and like a little mystical land.

When we finally got back to the top where we started, we found out that the cafe was now closed so unfortunately couldn't enjoy a coffee, but we were happy we made it (especially Helen, she was having problems walking up the steep hill :D ).

Fun day for sure, thanks to my friends for the chat and lots of laughter. Till next time :)

Whoa! you even spotted a kangaroo! the place also looks pretyy cool.

yea, there's lots of them there, especially during the week because its less people so they are more comfortable being closer. It was great to see, thanks for your comment :)

Oh that's why! I really want to see them up close. Maybe, one day.

You're welcome (^_^)

Hi Kat, what a great hike. Is that your son I see on the hike. Glad he is still coming with you. Fun to see your local wildlife in the pictures too.

Ohh gosh, I hope you are kidding! No, no, he is a friend, I used to work with him and he is less than 10 years younger than me lol :D He's from Italy.
It was a great hike though yes and the wildlife made it really special, I couldn't believe how close kangaroos were and not scared at all. Really amazing! :)

Oh I think I was mixing you up with another hiker. Sorry about that!

haha, it's ok, it made me laugh so that's always a good thing :):)

and I should looked closer at his age!

Nah, he does look very young ! If he was skinny (he works out so he's got muscles), he would look a lot younger even
