Perspective view and planning are very important in our lives. Otherwise, we are only hamsters on a wheel, grinding without a purpose.
Events and narratives at the global scale have been so condensed and rapidly evolving over the past few years and there's no sign of them slowing down. In this light, thinking and planning as far as 8 years into your future may seem difficult.
And it is true, we have no idea what 2030 will look like and how things will evolve until then. But we can still set some guidelines for ourselves and our path.
What I've done was ask myself a series of questions to which I answered. You can try it too with your own questions or with these.
If we are talking about Hive, I asked and answered myself two questions first.
Will Hive still be around in 2030?
My answer: Yes. Most likely in a much better position than it is today.
Will you still be on Hive in 2030?
My answer: Yes. Unless I have a fatal accident in the meantime or something like that. :)
Ok, now that I've cleared these potentially breaking points, we can move on.
What is your main goal on Hive and in crypto in general?
I'm not going to dance around the bush here. I want enough crypto at some point (maybe within these 8 years, if I'm lucky) to be life-changing. And become self-sustainable, including for what people call retirement funds these days.
At the same time, I hold some notions from the new world we help build dear to me, like account ownership, freedom of speech, decentralization (especially of the base layer), being rewarded for your time, effort, and contribution, the right and need of privacy (even anonymity if one so desires, without abusing it), and I will fight to protect them.
How far are you from reaching your goal?
I won't even bother calculating how far I am before I have at least 1 million USD worth of crypto. Well, I'm not there yet. :) Yes, I know, I'm bad, I still track things in USD.
But as most of you who have been in crypto for a while, I'm doing much better than 2 years ago, for example.
HBD is really interesting if the APR holds (either for savings or for another long-term time-locked option). Compounding will kick off over time.
I will keep pushing for both more HBD and more HP.
Do you foresee a change in your habits on Hive from now till 2030?
Yes. I need more free time. I'm constantly being reminded of that.
I will surely use mobile more to interact with Hive (which I did in the past too). I will probably post less long-form content or less often. I will become more selective in the content I consume.
Gaming... I'll probably need to reduce the time spent on them over time. First things first - cut excesses. After that, we'll see if or when further reductions are necessary. If it doesn't work, there's always renting out.
What I will likely do more of is manage my assets. This could turn into a full-time job of its own, so I need to be careful to not go in too many directions.
I don't see myself running a business on Hive, although being an owner and managing my assets is a form of business in itself.
Some of these things I can see coming very quickly, like cutting excesses for games and using mobile to interact with Hive (likely not for posting, unless it's short-form). Others more down the road.
There are of course other elements I can't foresee and which will likely change in these 8 years.
I think this was a useful exercise. I'll need to repeat it once in a while and see if my perspective changed in-between.

Yes, I need to write down more long-term goals as well. For now, I have some issues with my Hive goals for 2022. We'll see if I'll accomplish them all by the end of the year.
My answers are pretty much word for word the same as yours.
It's always good to see that someone else shares my crazy visions for both my personal stack of crypto and the Hive blockchain itself.
It can get pretty lonely when nobody in your real life even understands, let alone shares your vision.

Cool post, Adrian, I haven't thought that far ahead with Hive yet as I am still rather new to it. But I most definitely feel that it will be around in 8 years.
Let's look at things this way. From the launch of the original blockchain until now, it has been 6 years. I've been around for 4+ years of those. Why not think about the next 8? :)
I ask myself these types of questions sometimes too and I like to believe or hope im still alive during that period.
Nobody knows or can predict the future accurately but one thing is sure about crypto in the next 8 years from now which is the year 2030, I see hive in a better place than now, also I think by that time we'll be able to have launched project blank on leofinance which is a short form content platform like Twitter.
If we have mass adoption by then, I can predict a $10 hive and $5 Leo to be very easy to reach.
A million-dollar dream is possible too by then but whichever way im going to keep showing up every day and staking as much as I can.

8 years is a long time. Leofinance and the entire suite of applications will change a lot until 2030.
No doubt about that.
All these dapps we have today would have evolved into something much bigger and better by 20230.

Incredible things have happened in only 2 years. We can only dream of what will be in 2030.
By that time, I hope to be living from Hive just by curating content! or at least having a good income from it.
Hopefully when I get graduate and start working, I will buy some Hive for growth faster and achieve that dream.

For a second there, I considered your question and then considered my age and said shit, 8 years is a loooooooooong time to wait for results from the efforts put forth on HIVE; but then objectively; that will put me at about 62. That would be the perfect age to retire early :-)

Crypto world, being so new, is still unpredictable. It can very well take 5 years or 15 years, even if we don't screw up. But I'm leaning towards a shorter term or at most 10 years. I'm also considering all my crypto investments for this, not just Hive.
By then...I think a lot of us will be 'living' off the efforts we are putting in today.
That's why it's always important to have these longer term goals. Big picture thinking stuff.
Or worst case scenario...I'll just go back to flipping pizzas...

SteemHive in 2020. And I can bet my pleb ass nobody said the whole community would fight a hostile take over, clone the chain and move to the new chain :)That's VERY true. I'll be on Hive in 2030 if the community will still be here and not elsewhere. But I believe we've taken quite a few more steps to protect ourselves against a hostile takeover on Hive. Of course, something else may come up we don't anticipate right now.

I am more in-line with what you have mentioned. I wouldn't mind being financially free and having some extra time to game wouldn't be bad. If everything works out, then the life of playing games and streaming them doesn't sound like such a bad decision. I wouldn't start any businesses but I could monetize my time spent.

That sounds cool! I'll have to cut gaming time some days (especially excesses based on the frustration of not reaching a goal I had in mind at the beginning of the day). And use that saved time preferably away from the laptop and my chair.
Yes, I can still see myself on Hive in 2030, but I no longer see myself being that much of a blogger. Project blank and similar apps will probably be my main use of this chain.

2030 is a bit too far out for me given what the last two years have been ... but it was nice to see a more expanded mind consider it!
I haven't considered any specifics. Because none of us can see the true shape of 2030 until we get closer. What I did was take a step back and look at the bigger picture from my perspective and how I see myself evolving and moving towards during this time.
2030....so far away, but 2014 feels like yesterday so 2030 is probably tomorrow. I love writing, been writing for over 30 years... so I guess I would still be writing on HIVE in 2030...that´s what you get if you wanted to be a writer, but then life happened ;)
Time will pass more quickly than we realize. Summer is at our doorsteps. When did we exit winter?
I hope that in 2030 I will be somewhere in South America fishing in some lake, traveling through different countries and enjoying nature... Occasionally post some travel blog here on HIVE... 😀

2030? I will be 60 + by that time. I hope the Lord will bless me with good health to reach that year. As for my crypto goals, I think I will just continue what I already started. Perhaps, I will expand to a few names but solid projects. Hopefully by that time, if my crypto-assets can provide my basic necessities, I can finally relax and do the things I like - creating modules on economics and finance and whatever new subjects that will interest me in the coming months and years, holding online seminars and workshops, and supporting students financially in their education to help spread the holistic concept of freedom that includes spirituality, money, and time.
I will be 50+ too by that time. It seems I'm still in the phase of joking about the end, but close enough to realize I need to be more careful and prepared for my older days, if I get there.

I am happy for you. I took crypto for granted for 12 years. Anyway, we cannot return the clock, and there is no way that I would appreciate crypto at that time for I was just beginning to explore economics around that year.
Actually, I haven't seen many people with a background in economics embrace crypto. You are one, and you said you were against it for a long time. Another is Taskmaster, although I don't think he worked in the field, just studied it. There are others, of course. But many are still against crypto, some vehemently.
As for myself, I could have done better, but also could have done worse. If time ended two years ago, I wouldn't have been satisfied with my performance, but the last two years, without excelling compared to others, changed my perspective.
In that case, you are just one year earlier than me. lol. 😄
Actually, it is both true that my fascination with economics hindered my early entrance into the crypto space and at the same time the reason why I entered late when I saw the missing pieces of the puzzle that somehow connect the gap in my mind. I also don't have a degree in economics. I got interested in it as a result of a personal crisis and my curiosity about the bursting of the 2008 housing bubble.
Ah ok, I misunderstood based on previous discussions and the plans you shared about creating economics and finance modules. But you are self-taught, and often that's a better way to learn.
In theological education, we have these related subjects like "Church and Society" and "Theology of Work." That's where I am planning to incorporate the modules I have in mind.

Compounding efforts, that's a great way to put it, and very true. Consistency shows its benefits in time. Tomorrow you start a little better than today. The next day a little more. Most likely not noticeable, but in a month improvement can be seen. In a year, consistency gets you far. And in 10 years it might build you a fortune (or not).
That's an awesome thought exercise! I'll do it myself over the next couple of days. I agree too that Hive will still be around, it's been pretty resilient over the last couple of years.
These can be some powerful exercises because they force you to break the daily routine and think about the broader picture.
