Back home!
After 3 weeks on the road, I finally got back to beautiful Alberta, Canada!
And I'm in my home office, recording on my desktop after quite the adventure for my first major trip in my trucking career.
However, things aren't that 'great' and in this video I explain why....
Some big decisions are on the horizon and I hope I make the right one!
Hey, I didn't call this an 'adventure' for nothing ;)
Hope you enjoy the short update video!

Seems like it might be putting feelers out time. There's no shame in looking out for yourself and your family by seeking better options. No quitting, but definitely try to sell yourself to someone willing to buy you by actually making sure you are compensated. Your best leads will likely come from other drivers who have been where you are. If you do find what you believe is a better option. Make sure you give your current employer a good and proper farewell leadup. If by chance your current employer make it right, then I would suggest giving them a fair shot, even if I would put my name in with other companies while doing it to see if better options exist. And if an offer seems to be too good to be true... run! XD
Yeah I have another option, which I'm going to dig into and see how it turns out!
How long has the company been in business for?
Almost 20 years. So apparently, this isn't something they are used to doing.
You should be safe then, I figure.
Tough situation. I would set myself a deadline. Like another 2 weeks or 4 weeks. If they won't pay you until then, I would quit. That's Not work then, thats exploiting people. In the meantime I would already Look for alternatives. Maybe already apply for other trucking Jobs if you love doing that.
Yeah for sure, I've already got some feelers out there and should be able to find something if I need to.
That sucks to hear. I guess it really sucks if it happens often in the industry. I would still give them some deadline but are they at least paying the expenses? Such as the gas fees and etc?
They pay the gas, but now they are also having troubles with keeping their gas cards active. Writing might be on the wall.
For me it's simple, if they don't pay me I'll leave. Not for me but for the system. We must eliminate bad businessmen who do not have a cushion for when problems arise.
Very good point!
That sucks, I'm sorry you have to deal with that when you should be enjoying time with your family. I can't relate to the not getting paid part, but I can definitely relate to not knowing what to do because you are devoted to a company. I've been underpaid for close to 15 years, but I am loyal to my work place. They finally did right by me this year, and there are some other perks that make it worth it.
Yeah this is all new to me. Not used to working for a company, and most definitely not used to not getting paid lol
It is not nice for a company not to pay the workers
It can be very annoying and the best thing to do at the moment is quit the job
Yup, for sure. We all have bills.
I think it's appropriate to feel abused. Perhaps they hired you precisely because of your inexperience, allowing them to take advantage of you. However, as you mentioned, they have great reviews and could simply be in hard times. But it's not your duty to save them
Sadly, that is something my wife and I have talked about....Is this just the way they can keep afloat by sticking it to new drivers.
I'm not sure about the process in Canada, but in the States, if you don't pay your workers, the Department of Labor gets pretty bent out of shape with the employer with fines and all kinds of things. That being said, they sure understand that people have to eat. Sounds like you have options you are investigating so I'd keep those open for sure and at the very minimum, they should be disclosing to you what the plan and timeline are to get you paid.
Yeah, their first notice was about a month ago that they were running into problems. But I can see more evidence that this isn't looking good long term.
When you said adventures in trucking I wasn't expecting this... Did some of the older truckers who left say anything about this happening often in this industry? Anyway, even if they didn't, they made their choice known about the situation. The difference is they have experience. So... it's a tough spot to be in. I hope you find the best solution under the circumstances.
Yeah this is pretty tough, the opportunity I thought I had seemed to fizzle out this afternoon. Gonna be a long weekend deciding what way to go now.
Ouch. I've been there, working at a language school in Japan, where I enjoyed the job... but pay became increasingly erratic. Hope you get it sorted and enjoy your time with your family.
Today is the deadline day, they are supposed to pay on Friday. But we will see.

oh nooo... It's a tricky situation to be in, at least you are getting the experience and with a bit of luck you don't have to wait too long for the pay. I will pray that it all works out... Trucking does actually sound adventurous though, you get paid to drive a big rig and view different parts of the country, see different places and people. Post a pick of the rig, I'd love to see it.
Very good point! They did try the COVID excuse saying they are still trying to rebound.
