In a reference to this post I like to think I had the economic repercussions of installing the wrong people in power in the Nigerian system.
PS: It hasn't worked out as I though it would, and while people seem to be celebrating tribal bigotry, I'm here, thinking about the future of crypto and tech in Nigeria, and if this wouldn't be the beginning of further cancellation for crypto and tech in Nigeria.
Recently, the general elections in Nigeria have come and gone and irrespective of the outcome, it's visible to see the crooked mentality of many people through their choices and the reason behind these choices.
So many people have lost friends and acquaintances because of their differences in the choice or belief of the right candidate and this is coming from a place of loyalty, in an attempt to rebuild Nigeria.
You see, some people want a new, better, and different Nigeria and they don't mind if they lose friends and acquaintances. You don't see things like this in other places.
A System Of Check & Balance
This is because, in other places, people would never check their friends for disloyalty, greed, wickedness, or contempt. After all, these people are their friends.
This is the beginning of corruption. Some people display undying loyalty to their acquaintances even if the behavior of these people is questionable and needs to be checked, but because they've done us some good favors in the past, we overlook these tendencies they show. Nigeria seems to have passed this stage.
I've seen people calling out their friends, colleagues, and families who seem to support the wrong people, they did so knowing their relationships with them would be ruined, but they went ahead anyway, and the reason is their altruistic commitment, towards the betterment of Nigeria.
It's true that so many people have stood up to bad governance,
.....but they're still so few compared to the number of people who have been compromised by bad governance. Now, this small population is doing all it takes to change those who have been compromised and redundant in their mentality and behavior, but it has generally resulted in chaos, verbal wars, anger, cyber disagreement, and threats. The reason it got to this is that many people have lost their cool for this bad government.
Their frustration has led to them choosing haste and impoliteness in their bid to enlighten others about the need to rise above tribalism, bigotry, and religion in their selection of leaders for the country.
The Major Tool For Control
But I've come to see that some people would choose their ego, rather than choosing selfless change for overall betterment. I saw some Hausas online who were just satisfied to never see an Igbo president as the main reason for making contrary choices. The derivation of joy from the disappointment of others is far better than the need to truly change Nigeria in their opinion.
This is the height of wickedness, but the truth is that some of these people are living in abject poverty, unwilling to allow the positive influence of change to enlighten them. Nigeria is a representation of the web, be it two or three. When you look at most of these narratives, you'll tend to understand.
This is why I've come to believe that anyone who can survive Nigeria can survive any space, either spatial, geographical, or online. Now irrespective of the results, it's obvious the elections have been rigged. The majority have chosen their loyalty towards tribe and money over what is feasible and the people who have done otherwise have remained in the minority.
In Conclusion
One of the things I choose to do instead of showing worded or physical grievances is to remove my loyalty and patriotism to those who have chosen to make the wrong choice
I have a friend who sells cars, and due to his tribalistic nature, he made the wrong choice. Now instead of checking him verbally, what I'll do is never give him any referrals or patronize his business ever again. I think this is an even better way to register grievances.
There are things we'd do online and offline and we're forever on the losing side, despite not being wrong, we cannot change people.
One thing I'll say is that if you've mastered how to survive in Nigeria, you'll be able to survive any social space.

So myopic people who refused to see beyond the temporary money they are getting for their stupid choices. Las las, everyone will still join in suffering the after effect of this huge wrong choice
I have been so weak since morning after the news
I even lost appetite, just managed to drink tea this afternoon 🤦
Where will I even start, I lack words to express how I feel right now for my country...but I wept for this country...I am so disappointed with so many people. Even the educated ones that should see what we are seeing refused to join us on the race for a new Nigeria, instead they teamed up to rig the election

I have and know some people who are celebrating the loss of Obi and I just laugh to scorn them. I'm not totally saying Tinubu will fail. But what does an 80 year old sick man have to offer Nigeria. I have been affected by the news too and I'll never be enthused again by elections in Nigeria unless electronic voting is finally introduced. It's going to be another 8 years of uncertainty, I'm just hurt that we had the opportunity to change this country and sone persons have messed it up.
My way of grieving is the best way, I'm not a keypad warrior or an internet fighter, silently we should cancel people who hate this country by allowing them taste what they've chosen
What a missed opportunity to make Nigeria stand again. It's indeed an 8 years of uncertainty. I can only hide myself under the canopy of God oo because any nonsense can happen unless God intervene

I think everyone should individual hope to be financially capable to withstand the next 8 years. Because it's going to be uncertain and best thing is to actually be prepared, especially because inflation has just begun

The thing with the Hausa people is common almost everywhere. That’s where all the tribalism, nepotism and the sm-sm stuff come to play. They’ll always be people whose resolve for a better life is not strong enough to overcome their hatred for a certain group of people that are different from them.
I’m not Nigerian, but I’ve heard almost everyone I know that’s Nigerian say that the election was rigged. But that’s the thing. I’ve never seen an election where the people didn’t suggest the election was rigged. As long as people are not pleased about the result of an election, it’s always something. And this case, something is rigged. It seems many people I know don’t like the winning candidate for the just-ended election, which is surprising considering he won. Maybe the election was rigged after all.
Whatever the case, rigged or not, the hope is that even if he came into power using unethical means, his vision will be for the good of the country and it’s people.
The thing is, there's no due process in Nigeria and the voice of the electorate does not count. We had the opportunity to install a government that had vision for crypto and tech in Nigeria. Before now, crypto was outrightly banned in Nigeria. And one of the reasons why people sought change is so we can experience an overhaul in the system. The elections were rigged, but no one can do anything about it.

I'm suggesting it might get worse because we've voted in anti crypto candidates into power, so it might get worse for crypto in totality.

100% true. Some are not worried about how the choice they have made will affect their life - for example the value of naira they will chase from the next day. Their joy is to see that the devil they adore conquers and wins by all means.
Its already history and still happens till tomorrow. Which is why they said if you come to a new place and finds now Nigerian (let me make it not a tribal thing although it is), you need to leave the place immediately.
Most of the poorest Nigerians are found in this circle. And the 'smart' leaders enjoying manipulating them for selfish purposes.
Finally, the only thing any corrupt government can do is slow the adoption of crypto and technology as a whole. They CANT stop it because its simply beyond them right now

I have been seeing a lot of people making comments about Obi not winning and how they're happy because Igbos are sad. But then, it makes me why why people are so myopic. The elites are taking advantage of this tribal sentiment to continue perpetrating evil and so many people do not know. I'm actually happy a lot of people understands this.
I've been surviving in Nigeria all my life. I think we deserve to be called superheroes. The skills that are necessary to survive in this place is as a result of so many years bad and corrupt government and so when it comes to survival people do what is necessary and cultivate different and creative ways to stay afloat.
It is already out there. I personally believe that Nigeria can only be great when we come together without tribal or religious sentiment. This is why we elect people who embezzle our money and leave us out in the cold, it's so crazy that so many of the populace are not seeing this.
Currently, the Buhari administration banned crypto trading through the commercial Banks. I was actually hoping that we could have a new revolution that can instill the exchange of crypto through the commercial banks again but I guess I have been wrong.
The Nigerian space has trained us to be resilient in disguise. Ordinarily, I cant ever imagine myself staying 24 hours with just 20 naira in my pocket, but I did (since yesterday, all transactions was through POS or transfer). Struggled and went many places for cash without success. Just this morning, I got 3k cash charged 1k from POS.
Honestly, we are just surviving because we have been made to see the worst. But I am really optimistic that this circle of evil leadership handover will somehow come to an end.

Aside from tribalism and some other specificities, our countries are very similar and I can identify the things that you speak of here in Venezuela's recent history. Under chavismo, friends and families clashed with one another, sometimes irrevocably. I understand your dismay for Nigeria's future very well, but I can tell you there are ways out, paths that no government can control or block regardless of their intention. Corruption plays against the people, sure, but eventually it diminishes the government's capacity to operate, too, and that means more freedom for individuals in many ways. It's my wish that you'll start to see serious positive change in the coming years regardless of who's seating in power.
I'm curious, if you were able to, would you start a career in politics to enact change in your country personally? And if so, how would you go about it considering the current situation?
I see a lot of similarities between Nigeria and Venezuela like you mentioned, but the truth is that, Nigeria is a lot worse. The reason is because. Nigeria is neck deep in corruption. Politicians are rigging elections, giving citizens money to vote for them and when they get in power, they become beasts and steal public funds. I cannot be in politics and one of the reasons why this is so is because you need godfatherism to be in Nigerian political game. No one cannot come from anywhere and vye for a position. If you do not belong to the cabal, one cannot.

Even if you can't get into politics, would you consider helping your country from the inside some other way or are you planning on leaving at some point when you get enough resources? I think you'd do great in Latin America, for instance.
When are they going to start calling out their friends , colleagues and families that are into Internet fraud ?? It should not be only during election.

That's absolutely true and the truth is that I don't think this might changing anytime soon

I'm still in total shock as to why the same citizens rwho had felt the impact of the hardship from the previous government still in turn sell their right just for the little change. I'm also not saying Tinubu is a bad leader , but man!!! he's so aged, someone who can barely remember stuff, even when asked a simple question, he just answers anything that pops out of his brain whether being right or wrong.
And then the next thing we would hear is he is dead and they would go look for a replacement saying he's still alive.
Tribalism really hurts and it's hurting society. I think businesses shouldn't really be participating in it normally and vote with your money. So not giving him any money or referrals sounds like a good enough punishment for him.

I spent some time in Nigeria. It's a challenging environment, for sure! I would agree... if you can handle Nigeria, you will be ok pretty much anywhere!

Nigerians are so easy to turn against themselves, just throw in a little division and they will jump at it.
