”Blackbirds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

My Son and I went out to celebrate completing his Rite of Passage, the acquisition of his official Driver’s License. I knew this was important to him as his new Employer relied on him having a valid Driver’s license as an integral part of his career as an apprentice Automotive Mechanic.

image.png

Prior to the Driver’s Exam, I was just as anxious as he was. After a quiet prayer and 30 minutes later, he appeared at the office entrance with a huge grin holding up his N Decal signifying his NEW Driver’s status.

A few days later he chose the place to celebrate. ‘Lost in the 50s Drive In’ a chic charming Retro Diner located over in Burnaby-Edmonds. Burgers and fries made fresh on site.

image.png

The Burger sandwiches are priced from $8.99 to $9.99 CAD with Adult meals from $13.68 to $14.68 CAD with alternative Junior meal versions at $9.99.
Made fresh equals to tasting delicious. With our ‘dinner out’ ambience made more enjoyable with music from the 50’s played over the diner’s kitchen chatter and percussion.

With his License and first paycheck under his belt, he insisted on picking up the tab at $33 for the three Burgers and offered to drive home as well.

image.png

As we drove away, I wondered what the price of a typical Diner burger would cost in the 50s? Checking www.answers.com for 1958, I discovered that McDonald’s sold their burgers for $0.15 USD half the cost of a typical Diner burger of $0.30 to $0.35. Keeping mind McDonald’s mass produced & frozen shortcuts I would tend to side for the Diner Quality any day.

Canada silver 1951 10 Cents,1950,53,56,57,& 58 25 Cents,

Think of it.
This $1.10 face value of 0.800 silver coins would buy 3 Diner quality burgers in 1958. If I bought these coins at my local Coin store today, November 30th 2021, 0.66 oz of silver would be at $22.91usd/oz, USD FX to CAD is 1.28 would be a minimum of $19.35 CAD. And that would still buy slightly more than two Diner Quality Burgers considering I did not factor in Dealer Premium, FX fees and VATax that would push the price up to $25.
A sobering reminder that our buying power is stolen by our profligate spending central banks and governments by inflation.

The answer must be sound money that will be far better than holding Fiat currency.

Now for the December 2021 Hive Power up

This 124 Hive was originally set aside for taking advantage of those overseas Pump & Dump side shows, but this time I feel the Price action has a much broader support base than the same cast of characters. So let’s get away from the gambling and Stake this holding for good.

From the ‘Dogecoin Effect’ windfall, another 124 Hive from my Binance account.

Congratulations, sis!
A hamburger seems to be a good luck today!

Hugs and Kisses 🥰🌺🤙!!!!

I had the Texan Burger; Whole Wheat bun, 4 oz Beef patty, 2 slices of bacon, cheddar cheese, Lettuce, onions, pickle, and a tomato slice with a side of chunky fries and strawberry milkshake. 😋🍔
Delicious!
A local family owned business.

And always, with love 🤗 🌺 💖

Congratulations to your son for getting his driver license. I never have mine as I failed the test I did 4 years ago and after that I don't feel I need to drive so I didn't do anything.

Thanks.
Actually, my son failed his first Driver's exam. Being pragmatic about the failure he just shook it off and knew exactly what to expect when he tried again three weeks later and passed it well.
Turning Failure into Success!
Driving and owning a car is part of the Culture in Canada, encouraged by the design of our cities that have sprawling suburbs but he era of mass light rail transportation has been changing the driving culture. To add, the cost of owning a car does get expensive.

Thanks for the comment @dora381 💚

Same with New Zealand, we need cars to go around. Luckily, both my partner and I have jobs in a city center so we chose to live close by. That's way we just need to walk to work and super markets. I am so glad we don't have to use cars anymore.

That’s awesome first try. The burger and fries looks good.
Yeah silver and gold gold the buying power for sure.
That’s a nice chunk of dividends.

My son actually failed three weeks earlier but he used that experience to ACE the same test the second time around, a clean score sheet!
He'll be getting a raise and benefits package immediately after the probation period with his Auto Mechanics Training subsidized.
I let him drive my Car to work about twice a week.
Next, will be his brother's turn

Thanks for propping in again @silverd510

That sucks, glad he got it. That’s awesome for him. Oh boy two new drivers. Good luck

I know that spot!
Awesome raven — keep on slicing and dicing! 🤘🤩🤘

And I am familiar with many of the Burger and pizza joints along the Broadway corridor as it used to be my Community Nurse zone not far from VCBE on Granville and Broadway. That was before my current position I have now.

Tell your son Congratulations @kerrislravenhill !!🤗🤗
That's a really big deal for a guy, and apprentice mechanic, a good career he will always have work!😀

I am happy that he is in a trade that would be in demand no matter the economy.
His employer is also willing to subsidize his training at the local Auto Mechanics college too. It couldn't get much better for him.

Thanks for the comment @silvertop 🚕🚙🚗

Perfect @kerrislravenhill, it sounds like he has a very good employer! That's the way to start a career!😀

A typical drive-in diner, which yould can see in many movies. I have been to one in New Jersey, but that was many years ago.

It is amusing to experience a bit of the culture my Grandfather grew up in. Doing a Web search reveals that there are a few of these, 'Lost in the 50s Drive In diners spread over North America, not many. Perhaps more under different names. One thing for sure, the quality and taste of these burgers is definitely better than that of the golden arches.

Thanks for visiting @barbaraj 🍔

That diner was so cool! We have a place around here called Johnny Rocket that simulates the 50s era diner, they are fun to go to once in awhile even though they are pricey. Congratulations to your son on obtaining his driver's license too, it helps when you can run parts and errands.

Dining experience tailored to the baby boomers to relive great memories and an opportunity for the rest of to get a taste of the pop culture of the time. I should have worn my 50s styled outfit, maybe the next time.
Thanks for the congrats @jamerussell, he's probably still walking on clouds.☁️🌥

Congratulations to your son @kerrislravenhill! I know how pleased he must be!

A silver quarter from the US used to buy a gallon of gas, and that same silver quarter today will still do so!
Thanks for sharing and have a lovely evening!

Gas is $1.60 CAD per litre, approx $5.50 USD per USgal.
🤔
Wait! My car is a Nissan Leaf EV, It doesn't need GAS!

Thanks @elizabethbit 🚘

So true; but for the others........

Party time! Break out the Rum and Hardtack!

Thanks Keptin @joshuaslane

Both my boys just got their respective licenses, one just last week (as you know) so I totally get the proud Mommy moment feelings you got goin on over there. Hella cool of him to get the tab for yas too. Much love sweets!

Next goal graduation! Big Promotion, then a Grand child or two, preferably two.
I got it worked out. Don't know if will work out that way, more or less.

Thanks for celebrating with me @enginewitty 🎉

Fun part (or so I've heard) about grandkids, is you can spoil them and give them sugar highs then not have to deal with the bedtime thrills🤣😁

That's beautiful. I think I also like the idea of celebrating every milestone. However, changing the CAD to my currency would be really expensive. I guess standard of living is high in your region. Any way, congratulations to your son! I wish him success in his endeavors. That's a nice burger and chips meal. Do have a nice day.

The price would be comparatively high and Canada does have a high standard and cost of living for the time being. The Diner is a small family owned business for generations and I also felt an obligation to support a small quality business than a big corporate chain.

Thanks for the congrats @faith65 🌟

I've been to that Diner before.
Great atmosphere and service.
A good place for casual dining.

Well, you did take my kids there a couple of times when I was on the mend. It's no wonder that he picked this Diner. The quality is worth it.

Thanks @punkysdad , I'll treat you for lunch there.
