Our train ride from the Gatwick Airport/Station to Market Harborough, UK 🇬🇧

in Train Spotting2 years ago

Hi all 👋🏻

Today I want to share with you all our TRAIN journeys from the Gatwick airport/ train station to Market Harborough, England.
On Tuesday 07 April 2022.

Finally after more than 2 years, we could go abroad and visit family… 🥰🤗 we haven’t seen in such a long time.
The things we need to cope with when living abroad.

We got up at 03:15am in the night to start driving at 04:00am towards the airport. We arrived there after 35 minutes -ish 😉 early start…

No queues at check in and security.

The waiting area at the airport at our gate, was empty at 5am in the morning… the plane was also almost empty only 1/3 full.

After we landed with a plane ✈️ in Gatwick, England… we walked to the train station not that far last Thursday.

We looked at the signs to see which platform we needed to go.

It was platform 2.

Walking through some areas we could look out at this area. We see they are working at the station.

No trains yet, we are early.

And decide to walk around a bit…

We decided to walk to the end of the platform and wait at some benches. Getting some fresh air. 😎

I walked to the end to take this photograph.

Between platform 1 & 2 we find this sign. And a train stopped.

Let’s have a closer look.

It’s not the train we have to take. I take a few more photographs while waiting 😊

Another train passes by…

And an airplane… ✈️

Let’s follow it along over the train tracks.

Until it disappears…

But not long after another larger plane comes by rapidly… I just caught it before it would disappear behind the building. ✈️🛬😎

Very cool to see!

We see our train is coming very soon.

We walk now towards the middle of the platform.

And see a train in the distance…

Our train arrives 😁🎉🚂

Almost…

And it stops.

We jump in.

Find some free seats and sit down. This train is going to King’s Cross St. Pancras London. Where we switch trains.

Our views during the almost 1 hour train ride out of the window.

Still some works on some train tracks.

We passed a station.

And see a beautiful view from the cityscape of LONDON, with an old and new bridge in the foreground. 😎🌆

A little bit further.

More large buildings we see…

Still LONDON 🇬🇧

Now I see we are going through a bend and we can see the train we are on going through it…

I like views like this…

And the last one before we are on a straight track again.

We are going over a bridge and see some famous LONDON SIGHTS!

We have not much time after we arrived in the train station in London as we need to hurry to catch the next train. But I managed to get a few photos before we leave…

The station hall…

1f79b733_9358_4358_a1c8_6cb1da6e49bd.jpeg
Walking fast towards the platforms.

We jump in right away and search for our seats we had on our train tickets.
13937baa_42f9_46fc_9991_8d0758032571.jpeg
But… after speaking to somebody in the train / an employee… it turns out that Trainline (an app we bought our tickets through) had not the train updated to a smaller version. And because they were fully occupied our seats were not exisiting 😬😳🤯
335ffa5f_e503_4b28_aeba_987703773eee.jpeg

So for our 1 hour last train journey we had to stand in a hallway/ corridor with our suitcases and a few other people that had the same problem…

Our view out…

After 2 hours on 2 trains, after landing by Plane and driving with our car to the airport, we arrived at our destination and our family members picked us up…
🤗🥰😁😎 We are still in the UK…

Hope you enjoyed looking through my photographs and reading my post about this journey we had last Thursday on these 2 trains through the UK 🇬🇧

Soon, we go on a 4 hour train ride to Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I will post our further explorations of it in due course 😉

Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And if you liked my post, an upvote or re-blog is always welcome 🙏🏻

Have a great day all 😎👋🏻

Hi, Jackie!

I love traveling by train and by plane.
You have posted very nice shots. I hope you enjoy your trip very much.
Have a good time! 😄😊

Hi @coquicoin 👋🏻

Thank you so much 😊 I do love traveling too. We are happy we could travel again abroad. We just jumped out of the train in Scotland… a 4 hour journey. I post in a few days.

We are having loads of fun 😁😊☀️ Thank you kindly.
Have a great day!

That's cool! Enjoy Scotland :) May the good weather be with you ☀️
I will be looking forward to your updates on the trip! 😊😁

Thank you so much @coquicoin
Actually so far the weather has been great in the UK since we landed ☀️ No complaining needed 😉😋
Thanks 👋🏻😁

Hehe! That's really nice :) Keep enjoying your trip! 😊😄

Thank you so much @coquicoin we will and are 😊😁👋🏻
Have a great evening!

Yeah!! You're in UK, and you landed in Gatwick which is where I used to live. Your train out to London would have passed by my friend old station.

Hope you have a nice time up north and in Edinburgh with your family!

Yes I am 🎉🥳 @livinguktaiwan my fifth visit to the UK.

How cool that is… you lived there and I passed by a friends station.
We don’t have family in Edinburgh/ Scotland… that part is just a little get away with my husband to explore that area 😉 Never been to Scotland, so it will be fun 🤩
Thank you so much 😊

Have a great evening 👋🏻😁

Bit of a typo, I actually meant to type "your train would have passed by my old station!!!"

Edinburgh is lovely, I was there in November, and if you or your husband loves whisky, you're in for a treat.

Ok 😁 no problem 😉 @livinguktaiwan
We can’t wait to discover new areas and Edinburgh 🤩 we go tomorrow 🚂
Normally we would only hop around between his family members, but now we go a few days exploring.
As I’m not familiar with England at all.
I’m more a rum kind of girl, but will try fine drinks anytime 😋

Great picture Road Trip! In June I‘ll also be in London for the Platin Jubilee. 👑

Thank you so much @borsengelaber.
Danke schön 😎

We are only 2 weeks in the UK, next week we fly home again.
Have fun in June 😁

🙌🏻 thanks!

You are welcome @borsengelaber 😊

Love the train and plane pics, that is the beauty of stations by buys airports.
Oh yes beware of Trainline, it is often out of date with information, I have been caught out like that and stopped using it 🤣😎
The London cityscapes shots are cool.
Hope you have a magical time everywhere you go @littlebee4

Thank you so much @tengolotodo 😎

Yep… wasn’t great to stand for an hour after an early journey getting up at a crazy o’clock 🤣😂
Didn’t know it wasn’t great… and husband has not lived in the UK for 14 years. So all is different for him too.

Hope the next 2 journeys to Edinburgh and back will be ok 🤞🏻It’s a 4 hour ride each way, as they are bought through Trainline too.
We haven’t bought tickets for return next week to the airport. What do you advice instead of Trainline?
At the station? Or another app?

in Scotland I use the scotrail service as they operate the trains, not sire what to do in England to be honest. Funnily enough, it used to be a Dutch company but the Scottish government got the trains back as they were terrible!

I am not sure what to do about Trainline in England, maybe you were just unlucky, the only thing I would suggest is to see who the operator is and if they have ticket purchasing facility!

Have fun up in Edinburgh and bring the sun with you, it is hazy again!

Really… a Dutch company. Normally they would be efficient. Sounds like they didn’t do their bit.

Will have a look into it, I am sure we will figure it out 😎
Thanks for thinking along! @tengolotodo

I’m sure we will…. I will try and hold on to the sun and take it along… ☀️ Tomorrow. I let you know if I succeed… but I’m sure you will notice hahaha the weather.
Have a great day further.

Yes am sure it began with an A, a big transport company anyway.

Have a safe trip and yes bring that ☀️☀️☀️ @littlebee4

Thanks a lot @tengolotodo 😊☀️☀️☀️I will….

😁😁

Thank you for bringing us along, @littlebee4.
What a great experience!
(Considering I seldom get to take trains. the last time was from NYC to Virginia!)
Is the train station near an airport?
That plane seems to be landing.
The photo with the building... nice architecture...
the one at the back.
One hour standing on the train...
that must have been difficult!
Hehehe.

You are so welcome @silversaver888 I’m happy you joined us.
That’s a shame you don’t get to ride much on trains, I like it. It’s easy… but I understand it can be hard in the USA.

It was great… the train station is part of the airport. So really close by.
To see a few planes land I didn’t expect and it was a great surprise. Luckily I could capture them.

Yep it was hard standing up that long after such a long journey with an early start. But we recovered and are having loads of fun. 😊 and we are happy to see all our family after not seeing them in a longggg time.
Have a wonderful day further!

I am glad you had a reunion with family.
Is this the first time they'll meet you hubby?
Wait, you said five years?
Where to after this?

Thank you so much @silversaver888 😊

No, sorry… it’s my hubbies family in the UK not mine, so they met me now for the 5th time in just over 5 years in the UK. They did visit us in Spain and Malta but not since the pandemic.

We are at our second location. Tomorrow we go by a 4 hour train journey to Scotland, Edinburgh… just the 2 of us for a little break / get away 🥰 of 3 nights, and so that hubby can show me more from England.
After we visit his mother… and then mid next week we fly back home again.

Never been to Scotland, so looking forward to it 😁
