On Thursday morning, After I was about to start curating on Hive, I checked my wallet and saw quite a bit of hive in there. At first, I thought “ am I getting some kind of hive torch?” and I wanted to know where that mysterious hive came from.
So, as the memo showed, it was from @acidyo who was distributing curators past stake. In the past, curators got a stake for their job in OCD curation as the compilation earned HP(hive power). But since there is a beneficiary system, we dropped the stake reward. Honestly, it is much better because we no longer need an accountant, plus it’s faster and more efficient too.
Then... this was my reaction!

Anyway, it’s been a while since I am saving up for my PC and also I desperately need a better laptop than the one I got last year.
In a day, when I tried to open plenty of tabs, my old laptop would crash. Sometimes when I curate a post with more than 12 images, it crashes too even though I installed lubuntu on it. Not to mention, when I do my paper and open hundreds of pages on doc, it often freezes. Sometimes, I even lost a huge chunk of texts because my laptop was stuck and I needed to reboot it forcefully. It also worked for simple programming using google cloud but for the kind of thing I do, it was still too slow. It really tested a lot of my patience. The laptop just wasn’t meant to do the kind of tasks that I am doing.
Earlier this month, I told a friend that I wanted to save up for a decent laptop. It took a while because many things happened, emergency expenses, and lots of things that needed to be repaired, and some funds went to my PC. Thankfully, with that stake payout really boosted and made me get the laptop faster.
I have been saving some recommendations since the moment I saved up for my laptop. So, it didn’t really take me long enough to decide which one I’ll get. These days, getting a decent laptop with a decent price is really difficult. Many entry level laptops are overpriced and it’s only using Intel Celeron and doesn’t really come with a decent graphic card.
Where I live, it is hard to find something decent for the kind of requirements that I want, which at least has a Core i3 at a price below 500$.The prices of laptops have gone up too due to some factors and also chip shortages that cause some brands to sell at a higher price. Well, long gone are the days of great laptops for a fair price.
Thankfully, I was able to secure an ASUS X441U laptop with a Core i3 6006U and 1 TB HDD. For now, it is a decent laptop to do the kind of tasks I need to do while saving up more to complete my PC. Thanks to hive I got to finally get this laptop to help me contribute to hive and also the communities I manage. I swear, it was a pain having to switch to accounts of communities that I manage and curate while the laptop freezes.
Like my other laptops, I always use Linux even though it comes with Windows installation. In this laptop, everything was decent and I even got to play a game on STEAM. But perhaps, I am just too inept for using Windows, so I decided to install Linux again this morning. I am finally happy when I get full sense control of my device and start configuring everything from the terminal. This is the point where I don’t understand when people say it’s difficult especially when they don’t play games. Linux is easy to use and very simple to maintain. That’s all for me and I am very grateful for it and happy too :)

Awesome to read this! You deserve this new machine and I am sure it will safe you from a lot of frustration. Reading this also reminds me that I really need to leave Windows ( the OS I have been using from the start, early 90s ) and get into Linux one day. It also reminds me that I was seriously interested in getting a Raspberry Pi ( half a year ago ).

Linux is so simple to use than windows. Or maybe MAC. I don't know but I find windows really frustrating to use. And good to see you around in my post too ^^
I guess it's a matter of habit ( getting used ) but, then again, I always felt attracted to open source platforms. No idea why I never tried such an OS in my life.

Wicked stuff. Congrats! Is it good for gaming? 1 TB sounds like plenty of room to put a few games in there and other software you may need for your work. I have a dedicated PC for gaming, but I use my Surface pro 3 for everything else. It's great for drawing on screen, but its showing its age. I may have to upgrade soon to keep up with my animation experiments. I was looking at the ASUS one with the touch screen on the keyboard area, but the price is astronomical.
I played around with linux a long time ago, but now I'm using Windows exclusively cause I've gotten lazy and just want to click and go. :)

It can play games, a few and I tried yesterday! I played Bully scholarship edition. Also, This year may not be the right time to purchase a new PC/laptop. Prices are not reasonable and astronomical. Might as well wait a little bit more then buy a really good one unless you need it ASAP like I do. I am probably way lazier than you are and I find windows is not lazy friendly LOL it's like I have to click so many buttons before I can do stuff, like navigating the security update and the system. Maybe I am just not used to it which can be another reason why I have a difficult time using windows.
Right on! I think that you're correct about not being the right time to purchase given all the supply and shipping issues around the world. I shall wait. I stuck with windows because I needed it for some specialized software. So, I got used to it. I even used a Mac some years ago, but then switched back to Windows. They have adopted some good design practices that I think make the modern version of windows way more streamlined for graphic design, video editing, data analysis, and so forth. But it sounds that you like more technical control at your fingertips, so Linux is more suitable. I once compared the Mac to a luxury jet plane with fancy leather and wood, but gives you little control. I think of Windows as a jet fighter plane, which rumbles and shakes like crazy, but gives you control. To me, Linux is a UFO. 👽

I've been thinking about getting myself an Ipad because of school, even though I'm earning shit for at least the next 3 month. My laptop crashed as well so I feel your pain lol. Lost a bunch of important stuff while he was down.

Enjoy your laptop. I used Linux on an IBM Lenovo a few years back, but I don't know if I would still be able to do that on my current laptop. It was so over the hand handling apps with it.
And ooh,I see. I mean, there is pro and cons of linux but for the kind of work I am doing and about to do, linux fits more than windows 😊

In the year and a half that I have been in Hive, all my publications, curation and work has been done from a mobile phone, being a migrant, I don't have such a machine with me and it has been difficult to get one, but very soon I will bring you one so that you will be able to use it.
I don't know how you can do it from phone! it's amazing though. I would never be able to do things from phone because it's just uncomfortable to me. So, it is awesome that you're able to do it ! I hope you can get a laptop soon 😊
It's easy for me because of the time I've been practising hahaha. My husband says that necessity obliges and well I also have 3 small children, so the mobile phone comes in handy, I can do curation while breastfeeding or feeding the girls hahaha. 🥰

Congrats Coro-Coro! This is a very cool laptop. Upgrading from a Celeron to an i3 must be a really cool change. You remind me of when I upgraded from my Pentium to an i7, the change is very noticeable. I highly recommend you to try to buy a SSD for your laptop, it will be one of the best investments you can make.
HAHAHAHA yeah, pentium to i7 is definitely an upgrade. I plan on upgrading to SSD later because I feel so broke at the moment 😂 I bought laptop at the wrong time when everything is do damn experience. I also plan to upgrade some stuff in the laptop too. But yeah, for now, I will just have it at default.

It is a sweet upgrade from celeron to core i3 😁 hopefully core i7 soon.
