After 10 hours of walking we reached the top of the Fitz Roy, declared a natural monument by the province of Santa Cruz in 2020, it is the goal of any hiker or climber.

A dream show.
The mountain (more than a mountain is a hill) is not high. It reaches 3,500 meters at its highest point but the spectacle it offers from the top is charming.

We went up from the Argentine side. It can also be accessed from the Chilean side starting from Villa O'Hiigins.
From above you can see the entire valley that surrounds Los Glaciares National Park, within which nothing less than the famous Perito Moreno Glacier.
The first surprise is the lake. A lake on top of the mountain ?!

Laguna de Los Tres.
Indeed there is a small lake of glacial origin called the Laguna de Los Tres.
This lagoon or small place is a spectacular natural viewpoint, the closest to the imposing vertical walls of the Fitz Roy with its granite peaks in the shape of peripheral needles that give it that particular view.

And that makes it so difficult for climbers.
And we started to go down.
Although there is an idea that the most difficult thing is the climb sometimes, as in this case, it is as much or more difficult to go down than to go up.

The climb is tiring, it causes fatigue, but if it is not too steep, accidents are rare. On the other hand, accidents are quite frequent on descents.
Slips, feet slip on the pebbles, you cannot get a good footing and many times you fall. Although without great consequences for the physicist.

But slips and falls are much more frequent on descents than on falls.
We were lucky with the days. Spectacular, full sun.
Sometimes you have to stay several days in town waiting for the best weather.
Every month it rains. But the months when it rains the least are September and November.

It is the ideal date to try an excursion or a climb.
The sign shows us the way back to the town of El Chalten.
It has been a wonderful experience. And we prepare to return in search of new adventures
