Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!
Billions of people all over the world are now locked in their homes because of the coronavirus pandemic and quite naturally, many of them are bored as they are not used to having so much free time. With that being said, I think this can be a good opportunity for us to raise awareness about Hive and let the world know about all the great things we have here.
A couple of days ago, I actually launched a little onboarding campaign on my Facebook profile and I figured you might want to do that too. I wrote that Facebook post in my native Czech language so let me now translate it for you so that you can use it too.
Hey guys,
I have noticed that many of you have been struggling to make some reasonable use of all the extra free time that most of us now have because of the safety measures adopted to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, I would like to invite you to Hive, a brand new and fully decentralized social blockchain.
Hive was born just some 2 weeks ago by separating from Steem, an older blockchain that was recently taken over by the Chinese billionaire and controversial businessman Justin Sun who made Steem centralized and censored. As our community strongly disagreed with such practises, we separated from Steem via so called hard fork and created a new blockchain that is fully decentralized and censorship-free, run and managed only by the community. Also, measures were taken to prevent any possibility of another potential hostile takeover in future.
A vast majority of the original Steem community as well as developers, investors, applications and projects have already moved to Hive so the new blockchain is already fully functioning and expecting many new exciting applications that are being developed by various talented people to serve all creative users. So if you guys ever wanted to try blogging or if you are just looking for a place to publish the results of your creativity (of any kind), you are more than welcome on Hive.
Just like on Steem, your are going to be rewarded for your creative work on Hive with a cryptocurrency (the Hive Tokens) but I don´t really want to put too much emphasis on this fact as it often makes people have unrealistic expectations and believe they would be millionaires after posting a few articles. It doesn´t work like this, of course. It´s important to regard Hive as fun in the first place and not as a source of income.
Let me wrap this up with some brief info for those of you who already had profiles on Steem. The entire history of your accounts, including all your posts, comments and blockchain interactions was transferred to Hive and so was your account balance in the 1:1 ratio. For example, if you owned 800 Steem Tokens, 370 Steem Power and 200 Steem Dollars on the Steem blockchain, you now have 800 Hive Tokens, 370 Hive Power and 200 Hive Dollars on the Hive blockchain. User names, passwords and private keys were also transferred to Hive automatically (but it´s highly recommended to change your keys to make them different from those used on Steem).
The Steem blockchain hasn´t ceased to exist, it´s still running but Mr. Sun and his team have already turned it into a very repulsive and gloomy corner of the cyber space so I have no intentions to continue my work over there. My new virtual home is Hive. See you there :)
I know that not everything in the text was explained perfectly but I didn´t want it to be too complicated as it was written for my Facebook friends and followers, most of which have no clue what blockchains and cryptocurriencies are so I tried to use as simple language as possible.
Please feel free to use the text as you wish. You can translate it to your native language or edit it to your heart´s content and share it whenever you think it might be useful.
I might also try to contact some of our renowned Hive ambassadors like @theycallmedan, @blocktrades, @roelandp, @therealwolf and others and ask them if they were willing to reward those who would take part in this initiative and launch their own onboarding campaigns.

I've been doing exactly that! My take is that distributing free training is the most effective marketing tool. You have to tell people why bother, but also how, and preferably at the same time.
Here's my first tutorial lesson (please share) which I'm having translated into Spanish. Once all 4 are done I intend to create a free course out of them on one of the online course platforms I have other courses on. In the meantime I'm sharing them one by one on Twitter and Facebook, and by email to offline communities I participate in, trying to get them to bring their entire community online while everyone is sheltering at home.
The more folks reach out to people completely new to decentralized social media, the more we will all thrive. Great initiative!

Někteří se nudí, někteří padáme na ústa. Vyučovat po internetu 90 dětí, když já to neumím, ony to neumí a nemáme potřebnou techniku a vybavení je docela frustrující.

I think we could take advantage of a HIVE proposal system to recruit a good team of marketing specialist who's primary job would be to promote the blockchain. This should result in bringing more people on board with a systematic and focused strategy and making effective use of resources.
Yeah, that´s a good point but I think encouraging people to come up with their own initiatives can do no harm either ;)
Of course, word of mouth can be an excellent form of free advertising.
