steevc just finished a 5.41km run, that lasted for 33 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 400.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
I have altered my schedule a little this week to fit in an extra run. I am marshalling at parkrun tomorrow, so I will not run then. Today I did my intervals session.

It was looking a bit grey and it was cool, but not too bad. Once I got to West Drive I started my first sprint up the hill. It was hard work and I needed to catch my breath on the way back down. I did four more of them that got a little slower.

There were not too many people around today, but there were a couple of vehicles going up there that I needed to avoid.

I really need to do this one more often as well as other interval work. Strava shows my fitness going up, so I must be doing something right.

An hour or so later it is raining hard, so I am glad I avoided that. I have done plenty of running in the rain, but it is not ideal.

Run free and be excellent to all.

I did a 20 minute walk/run this morning. It isn't getting any easier I am afraid, but I plan on sticking with it! I hope you have nice weather this weekend for park run.

Improvement comes slowly, but it will come if you persist. I've been a bit stressed out by events this week, so my run is an escape from that crap. I seemed to have a bit of a performance slump in the last few months, so I'm keen to get fitter.

It may be a little muddy at parkrun, but the weather is improving. I know someone doing the London marathon on Sunday. I don't feel up to doing that. The conditions look fairly good anyway. They want it dry and not too warm.

I'd be happy just to do a 5K, so a marathon is pretty amazing to think about. I hope things dry up a bit for you. Now that we have the treadmill I think it will be easy to be persistent.

I spoke too soon. Raining heavily again now.

A 5k is very achievable. Take it steady and build up the running.

Ugh that sucks! Our rain has pushed through and the sun is out now.

i have to get back on the wagon again :(

What does marshalling entail? Are you given a area or milestone of the run to oversee?

There are various jobs to do. You can just be stationed to make sure everyone is okay and going the right way or be a timekeeper or barcode scanner. I have done all those and more. They need at least 20 people each week to run it. Some people don't seem to volunteer much, but they get the benefit of a free event.

I would make a good barcode scanner. Or be positioned as a landmark blimp :D Hope you don't have too wet a day tomorrow.

They have an app so you can do scanning or timekeeping with your phone. Years ago it was more manual with stopwatches and special scanners.

Anyone can get involved. We have an elderly couple who have helped out 100 times. The guy was using a mobility scooter until recently. It doesn't look like parkrun happens in India yet. Is there anything similar?

I think half marathons happen a lot nowadays and there are a lot of serious running clubs now. Mostly cause corporates sponsor them and get a team to enter from their employees. Pune where I live hosts a major marathon every year. I realised some of it when i looked at the strava app. I guess I was not that aware of things happening around me :)

The main difference in the cities and towns is that a lot of running is on tarmac or concrete as we don't have as many parks and hills as the town / city develops. That's why when I see your run around your village it feels very different from what i see here. For me the major issue is stray dogs. I am mortally scared of being attacked by the roving packs of stray dogs, which means that very late hours or early hours are off for me to run outside my building complex. And in normal hours it is full of pollution. I might just need to move to an internal treadmill at least till i get over my fear of dogs.

Are the dogs that dangerous? You don't see many roaming free here. I'm sure I saw more as a kid and have seen them in other countries.

There are plenty of runners around here. It's cheaper than going to a gym.

In cities and towns the number of stray dogs are increasing. Thanks to civic society efforts culling of strays have stopped but the spread has not stopped So we end up having roving packs at night. It is an issue that we are still trying to work out without being cruel to animals. Most people who are comfortable around animals still do run and at times dogs might run with you and bark and then just settle down. However because of my fear I end up exciting them even more. so not worth the risk.
