My Curation Style || DCC Contest

in DCooperation2 years ago

Would you believe if I say I had once seen curation as an activity done by only the whales or those with trail to give good votes to quality contents? I thought there was a difference between "Curation" and "Votes". That is, curation for the big account and votes for the small accounts 😂

But I was totally wrong and I got to understand that the two words me at the same thing with just one having a more formal name than the other. But permit me to give a tiny difference between the two.

What Is curation?

Curation is a process of browsing through the feed or community, find good contents, read, hit the vote button and leave a comment appreciating the content writer.

You could say, it takes a lot to say you've curated a content but then, voting is just going through any post and give your vote (Being more focused on your returns from the vote).

So I'm saying, you should be more of a curator than a post voter... It's more ideal that way.

How you personally usually curate?

Okay, I'm just going to use my own words against me here. I do curate but sometimes, I vote more than I curate. For the time I curate a post, I am always in a relaxed state... Find the good contents on my feed, read, vote and comment on them.

But for the time I just vote a post, I hurriedly go through a post... Look at the length, the title, the originality of the images used and proceed to vote or not.

No, I won't say it's right to vote posts that way and I'm working towards making better judgement with my votes from now.

How the curation should be done by the community?

I don't own a community but I've engaged in so many communities since I joined Hive and I'll commend a lot of these communities for their good judgement on posts that goes into the community.

There are so many other communities I would like to mention that are doing the curation work very well and would like to use them as example to others but allow me to mention #theinkwell community and the #cch community.

And I recently found out about the #cch curation initiative through the Post of @dagobert007 where it was stated:

To encourage Engagement we will also be curating the comments. For those actively communicating and adding meaningful input, we will be rewarding some vote value.

Mind you, not only quality posts deserve curation (votes), lots of good comments deserve your votes too. And this will in many ways encourage engagement like the #cch community have said.

What you would do if you were a whale?

I haven't grown much in the amount of votes I give but I know I make use of it very well to ensure that those I follow are aware of my following. Even though the vote isn't much, I give out my votes and it still counts.

Becoming a whale on Hive will mean I'll be able to vote more good contents unlike when I have to worry about my voting power, I could just reduce the percent and reach out to as many posts as I can before my voting power runs down.

What's the importance of the curation?

The obvious importance of curation is to encourage content writers to continue to write... And also for investors to earn their rewards through voting.

Curation is a two way thing, the giver and receiver gains from it but this shouldn't warrant a curator to just vote any posts or a writer to just write anything and expect a curation on his or her post.

One could take curation job as the main work to do on Hive, as it helps both the curator and writer to grow their accounts.

Who are the best content creators you like?

If I'm to give a list, this post won't be enough and I would be breaching the law of "Mentioning too many names in a post" so I'm just going to use this medium to appreciate those content creators who are also generous with their curation votes. @dreemsteem @josediccus @zartisht @selfhelp4trolls and so many others, allow me to end the list here... There are way too many awesome content creators I would like to mention.

This is my entry for the DCC contest and you are invited to participate too

Thanks for reading!!!

"I got to understand that the two words me at the same thing with just one having a more formal name than the other" Um, this sentence needs a little work lol, doesn't make sense where 'me' is.
Well done on your perspective on both curation and content creating @merit.ahama!

I get it, thanks

Curation actually takes a huge effort and I can tell you from personal experience that curation is done for the love of community and engagement and not for the love of curation rewards hehe. Perhaps some people focus on 'curation' rewards that they earn simply by upvoting and not engaging, but that is not true curation and is not true of genuine engagers. And proper curation, which involves genuine engagement, takes time...it takes time away from one's ability to write their own posts, so when you see people who engage really well and frequently AND they write frequently too... this can only mean that they are not also holding down a day job, studying and raising kids hahaha. There are only so many hours in the day !LOLZ So,if like me, most of your time on Hive is only gained in a few hours in the evenings after the kids have gone to bed... and that time has to be split between community support, curation and writing good content... it means that you end up usually with around 3 posts a week... On the weeks that I do more than that, it is a big push and then you will usually see a gap for a good few days from me before I post anything new again. And its not that I am away from Hive or focussing on earning for myself either, if I was away, you would not see me engaging lol... and I do... a fair bit. If I was focused purely on earning, I'd spend more time pushing out posts on a daily basis but I'm not interested in doing that as I mainly write short stories and these take time to conceive, research, write, edit etc. So back to your article, I agree that there is a difference between curation and simply upvoting. To me, one is primarily about community and building relationships, the other is primarily about money. I know which side of the fence I like to spend most of my time💗

Thank you for sharing your post in Dreemport again Merit. Your presence in the community is always enjoyed and appreciated.

Wow Sam, this is a lot 😅 and I get your point... Feels good to know that a lot of us don't curate for the money but for the love of the people and community.

Thanks for loving my post with your curation 😅

hehe you are welcome. Love you❣️😂

Love you too 😅❤️

I thought there was a difference between "Curation" and "Votes". That is, curation for the big account and votes for the small accounts

🤩🤩This was exactly my thought all these while I have been on hive until last month when I got the clarification via our newbies program.

Now from what you have written, I have gotten a clearer picture of the two . Curation is the best if time permits to go through many contents as possible though it won't be an easy job however, one can decide to curate for some days and create a post some other day, anyways it soothes the individual is nice.

Weldon 👍

Yeah, there are many people who focus more on curating and earning... They hardly make a post but for one who does both, it's not easy at all

I actually didn't know about curation and regular voting before. The relationship between them. Thanks so much for this post.

Yeah, I'm glad you know now

Thanks again

Gracious me, I love samsmith comments, of course yeah I know about curation and voting!
But your article gave me another insight, including sam's.

And am happy to have graced your post dearest!

Curation is not easy, sometimes it takes effort. I'm glad you got to understand how it works, I didn't know how it worked till I took time too to understand it. Lovely post you've got here. Plus, being a way is a huge dream, I if I can accomplish it in years time, I'll think about what I'll do. Hahaha.

I guess what I do is voting because I don't curate and I try to always read what I vote for but, I won't lie, there are days where I don't and just vote and walk away.

It happens to me too 😅

Its like that mehn.

I just hope some are honest in curating and don't favor only their friends 😅.
Nice one btw, gonna check this contest

That's the thing, I hope they don't
You should, it's a fun contest 😉
