One of the greatest joys of my life has been my pets. I grew up in a country area with lots of space around and many different pets, but it's my cats that I have loved the most.
I talk to my cats more than most humans; I only have one now, a cutie called Cleo, and I like her better than people too. She brings me great happiness and enjoyment, and people can be assholes, so it makes sense. She's a funny little thing, does funny things other cats of mine have not done and, of course, they all do similar things as well.
One thing she took to doing was sleeping on my legs.
I call my legs her sleeping legs because if I have them up she's either resting her head on them snoozing or full-on laying on them sleeping. I don't mind and will stay where I am as long as she's there.
At night she sits on the patiently on the bed until I get settled and even stares at me sort of saying, "hurry up with my sleeping legs", and sure enough she's straight there and settled as soon as possible. When I'm reading or watching some shows it's the same, going as far as interjecting herself between me and whatever I'm doing until I relent and move my legs so she can take full advantage - Like I said, I don't mind.
Does your pet do stuff like that, have habits when interacting with you? Tell me about it in the comments, or comment generally if you'd like.

My Jax used to go to bed at 9:30, then come out and meow (yell) at me to come to bed. Then he would sit on side of the bed till i came there. Once in bed he would snuggle till I fell asleep. I sure do miss him 😿
Little scamp, but you'd not have it any other way right?
I miss all my cats, Dixie, Merlin, Gemmi and eventually Cleo will leave too which will be a very terrible time for us. I suppose it's just important to value them while we have them and remember them well - small consolation to losing them but I'd rather suffer the loss and have them, than never have had them in the first place.
Exactly!! I loved him and cherished the time I had with him.
Word....she wouldn't like them near as much if you shaved your legs 🤣
I think it's the fur-factor that's so attractive. It's like I'm a furry little cat myself but...not as furry as some.
Aaahhhh she's sooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuute how do you live XD
J's current dog and my last dog independently (because my last dog died before we got this one) developed the cuteness overdose trick of coming up beside me when I'm at the computer and just casually using their long snoots to flick my arm from the keyboard or drawing tablet (whichever I happened to be doing at the time) onto their head/back because they know it's so disgustingly cute that their terrible behaviour will very definitely get heavily rewarded with ALL THE PATS.
She also has this particularly pathetic whine when she wants to be tucked in unde her blankie.
I don't even know where to start with the cats. When the ranga wants to play he will start by doing the archy back skitter kind of in your general direction and then if you make any movement at all (doesn't matter how or where) including glancing in his general direction he immediately turns tail and attempts to run which usually results in three full strides in situ (we have wooden floors) before he gains traction and is able to actually sprint away. I am hoping I can get it on video one day.
And the tabby just screams at you (it's kind of a MEP sound with varying lengths) about everything from she wants food to you stopped patting her to your patting her too much and also how dare you move she was comfortable.
I love those little personality traits pets pick up and use against us for evil purposes...like hugs and pats. Lol.
There's a distinct difference in how dogs and cats behave (of course) and I like both, would happily have both at the same time, but unfortunately I don't have the time to devote to a dog, all the walking and all, and while I have a yard that's reasonable sizable I don't feel it's large enough for a dog to not then be walked every day.
So, cats it is...Cleo.
She's aging though,16 years old in June, and...well I know she'll leave us. It makes me sad but makes me value every second we have her.
I found out literally just then that the snoot nudge is extremely disruptive to the boys when they're painting their Warhammer models XD I didn't realise she did it to them too but it makes sense. And unlike me they don't have undo.
If you got a small or at least not a farm/working dog the decent-sized yard would probably be fine with extra enrichment but definitely much more responsible to stick with cats if you don't think you have time for a dog!
16 years is a pretty good knock for a cat! My oldest cats got to 17, I hope Cleo gets to at least 20!
Merlin was 22 when he passed away in 2020 - he was my best friend and I miss him every day. (All my carts really.)
We're planning to travel a lot more and that's not conducive to responsible pet ownership however we'll get a pet again in the future. Possibly a little dog. It's quite popular to cross dogs with poodles so I'm planning to cross T-rex with one, going to call it a Rexoodlasaurus.
22 wow! I remember reading a bit about Merlin way back when and do recall that he got to a ripe old age too but not the number.
I think you're onto a winner with that cross.
Just took this one today. She is the messiest eater of any cats we have or have had. Flings her food everywhere while eating it. Always a mess to clean up...
Messy eater huh? Ours have always been fairly good in that regard and Cleo is super fussy with it, almost zero mess.
That pig giphy.gif could be for Sammi Jo. It fits.
No doubts pets are better than some people, I also prefer my cats over most of the people... Mine are sleeping legs too, as soon as I lay somewhere they get occupied by a full cat laying over them, they can stay there hours, and when I'm asked something my reply is "I can't get up to do this, I've got the cat!"
This also happens when I'm eating, sitting at the table
A other thing one of the 2 does is when I'm in the bathroom she will always come and lay on the ground like for company
Having the cat sleeping on one's legs is an awesome excuse for not getting up and doing jobs right? 🤣
Cleo does the bathroom thing too, sits out side the door. I think they get so attached that they have anxiety when we're not there. Coming home to see Cleo is the best part of my day.
I also think they have separation anxiety 😂 well that means they love you
For sure.
I completely agree that I talk more to my two kittens, Cata and Tony, than to people, and that they give me endless love.
Tony calls me every night to come and put him to bed, because he doesn’t like going to sleep on his own, and when I go to bed, Cata kneads my tummy for a good while before falling asleep. And whenever I’m writing, she’s always, always by my side, no matter what time of day it is. I adore them!
Oh, and at a certain time of day, Cata asks me to pick her up in my arms and put her on my shoulder, as if she were a baby, and to rock her gently, patting her softly.
Cats are awesome.
They certainly are! I can’t imagine life without cats.
Haven't you heard the saying If you lie down with cats, you get up with fleas? 😆
Well, I try to keep my fleas away from Cleo, she deserves better.
Moggies...
Hahaha, I can't help it. You moggie lovers are sooooo easy to trigger:)
Nero tends to jump on the window sill from the outside and wait patiently until I open the window for him, without making noise. The thing is that just jumping up from the plastic roof always makes enough noise to wake me up...
Cats are funny creatures, the way they have little habits and all, I find that aspect of them to be endearing. They have such personalities.
They definitely do have personality :-D Incredibly volatile as well. And each is so different from the other.
That's one of the reasons I prefer cats; one has to work for their affection and that comes through understanding their personality.
And they're clean. Like OCD clean. At least Nero. He sometimes come in at night when it's very hot outside and I left the window open. Comes in, cleans himself. Lays down, sleeps, wakes me up 2h later because he woke up - to clean himself. We fall asleep again. Wake up at the time we're supposed to, he cleans himself. I mean, I'm not that dirty. Nor are my sheets.
Oh yeah that's right, they're always cleaning themselves. Grooming.
Our dog used to jump up on the couch and put her head in our lap. I miss that. She didn't do it towards the end as much. Getting on the couch was just too hard for her.
That's an issue for sure, mobility. Cleo is a bit like that, is 16 in a month, and so we carry her around and pick her up and put her on things. Eyesight is diminishing too. Sad, but we will cherish every moment we have with her while we have her.
That's all you can really do! Enjoy!
Te entiendo! Yo tengo una cachorrita llamada Luna y ella también tiene sus mañas. No puede verme sentada porque de una vez busca mis pies para descansar. Es su lugar seguro.
I feel you! I have a puppy named Luna and she has her habits too. She can't see me sitting down because she immediately looks for my feet to rest. It's her safe place.
Why do you write Spanish and English in your comments to me? I don't read in Spanish and have told you so previously.
I’m sorry for the oversight, Galen. I won't use Spanish in your comment section again. I really enjoy your content and want to respect your preferences. Have a great day
Thank you, it just seems very strange that you'd put Spanish text into a comment to someone who doesn't speak or read Spanish.
My apologies, it won't happen again. Best regards
