Happy Sunday from a yaad man in Japan!
Today I had some green bananas and sardines for brunch...not the entire family only me. No one-else eats green bananas... sardines either 😂 I got the green bananas from a friend and business partner to test out as Jamaicans have been requesting them. To be honest, I have never boiled a green banana in my life ( but I ate it a lot in Jamaica). so I hopped online and found how to prep it....bad idea, I should have called my mother for the good ole Jamaican way. Where did I go wrong? I left the peal on while boiling and I didn't add a little salt-fish to give it that Jamaican flavor. Another thing is these bananas aren't really the boiling type I hear, but if you boil them right, they do taste good. Have you ever tried green bananas?
Simple and easy
Last Week
Last week we had 5 people enter the Dash Out Sunday contest ( well 6, but they missed the deadline, do remember that this contest only runs for 3 days). Sandwiches, soups, chicken, rice, and even cereal pics made it to the last DOS. All their entries were voted with JAHM and Hive power. If you aren't sure how to check your JAHM votes see last weeks post here on the Reggaejham interface.
And the winner is...
Congrats to @josevas21 who brought us this scrumptious dish of chicken, salad, rice and friend plantains/bananas. The presentation on this dish was superb, but what got me the most was the plantains on the side😋. I also found it interesting how the chicken was seasoned. Read more about his dish in his post here
Looks superb right? @josevas21 walks away with 1 HBD and 750 JAHM.
Runner Up
This beef mushroom soup by @rarej looked really healthy and tasty. He claimed it was a "lazy Sunday" but this looked better than my best cooking 😂 I had to send him 1 HIVE and some JAHM for this one ( especially like how I got the 1 HIVE as a tip just messing around on twitter, thought I'd just pay it forward. Oh, if you are on twitter, do follow me.
So yeah, each week there will only be one winner, but at times I will do my best to pay it forward and choose a runner up.... when I am blessed your are blessed basically. 😁
And now on to week 4
Welcome to the Dash Out Sunday Contest.
Dash out means to show or throw out. Below is a short background of the idea of the contest, 😀
In Jamaican and Caribbean culture, Sunday dinner is the most looked forward to and probably the most extravagant of the week. (Hmmm, but that’s probably Sunday dinner in any country right?) Dishes such as stew chicken with rice and peas, curry goat, oxtail just to name a few, delight many after their church service. ( well, those who do go to church).
With this simple contest I'd like to invite Hivians from all corners of the block to share a pic of their Sunday or Saturday dinner with us in the @reggaejahm community. It doesn't have to be Jamaican or Caribbean food but just made by you or a family member with love. Food brings the people together and while we can't physically taste what the food is like, we can see it and imagine.
Through this contest I hope to get a little more engagement within the community and also attract those outside of the community to Reggaejahm.
Rules
- Post a pic of your Sunday or Saturday dinner in the comments below. Original photos only. They are watching👹.
- If you bought food you can post a pic and get some votes but it won’t stand a chance of winning. The dinner must be prepared by you or a loved one to be eligible to win.
- Tell us a little about the dish in a few sentences and anything else you'd like to add.
- Re-blog and upvote this post.
- Subscribe to the ReggaeJahm community if you haven't already.
Feel free to make a complete post about your “Dash out Sunday” dinner in the Reggaejahm community or on ReggaeSteem.io. You can also use the tag #jahm from any HIVE Interface. Making a post is not mandatory.
Prize
There will only be one winner, and they will receive 1 HBD and 750 JAHM Tokens!
Upvotes will be given to all participants based on the community, AKA please vote other peoples’ dinner pics 😂 . I’ll also be giving out some JAHM Up votes and using the @reggaejahm account to give some HIVE votes.
Contest ends in 3 days Japan time, but the winner will be announced when this post pays out.The winner will be chosen by me based on food presentation and yum factor.
Good luck! And let’s “Dash Out” those dinners!

This is my entry. This weekend lockdown Friday 8:00 pm to Monday at 7:00 am and lockdown every Monday from 8:00 pm to 7:00 pm until Friday.
I feel missing my country so much, so I want to be made to fresh noodles and fired with vegetables for my family. This is name Lort Cha or Fried Short Noodles Cambodia recipe.
Nice, homemade noodles, they look like what we would call "spinners" in Jamaica. So you had to boil the noodles separate and then add to this dish? I like he nuts on top. Looking good and healthy.
I didn't realize @sreypov was on here trying to give me competition.
These noodles didn't turn out as planned, and I actually thought of Jamaican spinners when she was making these.
HAHA,🤣 throwing shade on @sreypov. I thought they were spinners too but very interesting looking dish.
Yes, you are right @dmilliz. Thank you a lot for your kind words.
back for another entry this week!
we just finished a lovely Sunday meal...a few leftovers but mostly fresh veggies, some from the patio garden or from my fathers garden!
In the vegetable stir fry, we have tempeh with some zucchini from my dads garden...and fresh from the market, some okra and snap peas with onions.
for the greens, it was a mix of bok choy and spinach, with some of this red chinese spinach and kale and basil we have been growing in a bucket out on the patio for a couple months. the basil is huge but the spinach hasnt grown that huge so i havent tried it yet. it was good, a little heartier than regular spinach.
on the side, fresh corn on the cob and some broiled and seasoned potatoes and also basmati rice/piece of leftover bread
hope everyone else had a nice meal tonight!💚💚💚💚
This looks well healthy, veggies galore. Nice, any little planting we can do in these times is essential. ( or grabbing for or parents garden:) What is the yellow thing by the zucchini ? Is it eggs. This is a power packed meal, oh man the corn 😋
i think you must be asking about the tempeh? its a fermented soy bean thing-good stuff. yes, all veggies in my household!💚💚💚
Quite a feast @quinnertronics.
We landed our first Ital catering gig in Suriname, and made these three dishes for a birthday party.
The top left is Chap-Chay, a Chinese-Cambodian vegetable soup. On the right is Nyoam Mii Sue Bonlay, a Cambodian noodle salad, and on the bottom is Aloo Bonda, Indian style potato fritters.
Looks like we earned 500SRD from it, around $38, not bad.
Looking good. I am sure it will be the first of many gigs. $38, not bad at all, once the word gets out $100 bag! he fritters look like my speed, need that recipe 😁
Good afternoon friends! This is my entry to Dash Out Sunday. Sweet & Sour Chicken w/ Shrimp Fried Rice. This was pretty much a freestyle dish. When I started cooking I didn't really have any intentions on what I was making. I knew I had some left over sweet n sour sauce and some leftover white rice. I had some chicken thighs I put out to thaw from last night.
You dash it all out bredda LOL
Yuh dun know. Thanks
I am impressed at how much this initiative has grown. Thanks for sharing chef!!
It definitely has grown. Thanks
Today I went for a somewhat traditional dish from Suriname which just about everyone in the ethnically diverse country can prepare and is familiar with.
Click on the image for my post 🙃
Thanks for sharing @rarej.
Didn't know how fun writing about food was, until I did it 😁
Mi cena.
Mi almuerzo.
Thanks for sharing @yurilaya.
This looks fantastic. I love it when you can make a meal and eat for lunch and dinner. This looks like the kinda soup we would make in Jamaica. 😋
Thank you very much, soup is a meal that goes a long way, you can eat several times;)
Hello @dmilliz
This way leaving my entry: https://hive.blog/hive-183952/@josevas217/dash-out-sunday-week-4-the-food-pic-contest-rice-beef-and-salad
Looking at that slab of beef LOL! That is a nice amount of salad though. I thought the rice was mashed potatoes at fist. Looking scrumptious 😋
Hi @dmilliz, thanks for the award.
It was good to participate, as much as eating ha ha
Green banana, yes, of course, I have eaten it, and with sardine. Regularly the green banana is like Frito, like tostón that we call it in Venezuela, or patacón, as we call it in Colombia.
Also in Venezuela we eat green cambur with sardine, butter and cheese.
Already doing promotion to the contest.
Well deserved bro. Yes that region we come from seem to like the green bananas and foods from the ground. Really? With sardines? I am not the only one 😂. Green Cambur, is that beans? I did a little check.
Thanks a million bro.
Awesome, Thanks! It went straight to the slowly growing HP pile. I think this counts as my first official win of anything on HIVE. Lol, "lazy" as in not much preparation goes into it and you can pretty much start cooking immediately 😅
Congrats to @josevas21! The combination of garlic, curry and soy sauce on chicken is something that intrigues me. Next time I'm grilling, a few pieces of chicken will be seasoned exactly that way.
Thanks @rarej and congratulations too, it's always good to add hive, anything goes. Also let's hope jahm has a great price later, I know it can.
The truth is that that mixture of curry, garlic and soy sauce was an invention of that day, it usually adds a touch of sugar sometimes to make the meats browner. It usually looks pretty good.
I've never eaten that soup you present. I've always eaten mushrooms on a pizza or in a sauce with meat, but not in soup.
Thank you @dmilliz for this opportunity, I will soon publish my participation, if time permits
The ReggaeJAHM community is a strong one, so in time the token should grow as well.
Oh nice, it's always good to experiment with ingredients I find. Sometimes you get the best results from that. Even if some people consider it blasphemy or say you're crazy. 😅 I wonder what you will come up with next.
The type of dried mushroom I used is a common ingredient in lots of Asian dishes and as garnish in soups. Definitely something you should give a try.
I always mix things with sugar in my food, especially with meat. Pepper, curry, ginger, among many things I get, wine.
Food has no limits, I know that there are dishes that are already pre-established, however, there are variations that arise from inventions.
So many do not like them, I like the culinary blasphemies ha ha ha
I totally agree with that philosophy 😂 Culinary blasphemies for the win!
Congrats man. Yup,power up that HIVE, early days yet.
I gotta try that soup one day. ( hint, recipe posts do well on hive, take pics each step of the way, throw in a gif 😁)
Oh and don't forget your JAHM tokens, its the token of Reggaejahm, not worth much now but it will be 😁 https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=JAHM
Thanks for the tip about the recipes. I've also noticed that. Recipes with exact amounts are non-existent tho if you're from the caribbean, but you already knew that. 😂
In any case, I've taken some ingredient and in-between pics for my next #DashOutSunday post.
Yeah, I saw the JAHM tokens, but I'll hodl them for now until I get the hang of all of the HIVE exosystem.
Fish... with bananas!? Say what!??!!?? 🙄
What a confusing mix. My brain can't accept that. 🤭
I know right? They actually go well together, the green banana taste more like yam. But man I would never stand a chance winning this contest with that dish😂
I've tried eating a green banana by accident and it was unbearable. What a horrible taste. Ugh. How strange is it that the flavour changes so much, eh?
Its not so bad, you just gotta prep it right, but yeah I prefer the ripe! But Yeah, I just wanna figure out how to sell it 😁
Those sardines and green bananas look great! We have a dish here that used salted fish instead sardines and adds even more earthy foods like sweet potato, ripe banana, normal potato and cassava. Things that grow in the ground make excellent comfort foods.
Thanks man. LOL yeah the sardines were just my quick throw on, I don't think anyone eats sardines and green bananas. Yeah man the ground foods are the best, give me that over rice any day.😃
