Yesterday was my birthday and I wanted to get it off to a good start. The best way to start a day is with a good walk, especially if it's weekend because I don't have limited time in the mornings.
Being Saturday, I decided to leave home early and make the most of the good weather to walk to one of my favorite natural areas in Zaragoza. It is a trail that runs along the northern sector of the left bank of the Ebro River, near the orchards that can be seen from the Northeastern Highway.
This space, despite being very close to the city, allows you to easily isolate from the sound and even, in some areas, even from the urban panorama. I think that's why I like it so much, because without leaving the city I feel like I'm in a totally different place, full of peace, clean air and natural sounds.
Athletes usually frequent this area, because it has a bike path and a circuit of bars for calisthenics along the route. Many people just go for a walk, like me in this case, but I remember when I lived near the university, this was my favorite place to go for a run and get some outdoor exercise.
Paseo recompensado con pasteles de cumpleaños
Ayer fue mi cumpleaños y tenía muchas ganas de que comenzara bien. Para mí la mejor forma de comenzar un día es con una buena caminata y sobre todo si es fin de semana, porque no tengo el tiempo de las mañanas limitado.
Así que al ser sábado, decidí salir temprano de casa y aprovechar el buen tiempo que hace para caminar hasta uno de mis espacios naturales favoritos de Zaragoza. Se trata de un sendero que recorre el sector norte de la margen izquierda del Rio Ebro, cerca de los huertos que se ven desde la Autovía del Nordeste.
Este espacio a pesar de estar muy cercano a la ciudad, te permite aislarte fácilmente del sonido e incluso, en algunos tramos, hasta del panorama urbano. Creo que por eso me gusta tanto, porque sin salir de la ciudad siento como si estuviera en un lugar totalmente diferente, lleno de paz, aire limpio y sonidos naturales.
Esta zona suele ser frecuentada por deportistas, porque cuenta con un carril bici y un circuito de barras para hacer calistenia a lo largo del recorrido. Muchas personas solo van a pasear, como yo en este caso, pero recuerdo que, cuando vivía cerca de la universidad, este era mi lugar favorito para salir a correr y hacer un poco de ejercicio al aire libre.
Particularly there is a spot that fascinates me, it is a lovely slope that allows you to get close to the river and rest under the shade of some beautiful Weeping willows that are on the shore. I love to sit there, looking at the river for a while, although in summer it's a bit annoying because there are a lot of mosquitoes, but this time of year is perfect.
I've always thought I'd like to bring a book and spend a quiet morning reading outdoors. I've also thought about inviting some friends and having a picnic there, because it's a beautiful place, but so far I haven't done either, I think about it when I pass by, but it always remains in thought.
It's possible that it's because most of the time I pass by there, it's because I'm running or walking for exercise. Although I don't know if it's because I like the idea of being there with nothing to distract me from appreciating the tranquility of the surroundings. For now I reserve it for moments alone, disconnecting from anything other than enjoying nature.
Particularmente hay un punto que me fascina, es una encantadora pendiente que te permite acercarte al río y descansar bajo la sombra de unos hermosos Sauces llorones que están en la orilla. Me encanta sentarme allí, a mirar el río durante un rato, aunque en verano es un poco molesto porque hay muchos mosquitos, pero esta época es perfecta.
Siempre he pensado que me gustaría llevar un libro y pasar una mañana tranquila leyendo al aire libre. También he pensado invitar a algunos amigos y hacer un picnic ahí, porque es un lugar precioso, pero hasta ahora no he hecho ninguna de las dos cosas, lo pienso cuando paso, pero siempre queda en pensamiento.
Es posible que sea porque la mayoría de las veces que paso por allí, es porque estoy corriendo o caminando por hacer ejercicio. Aunque no sé si, mas bien, sea porque me gusta la idea de estar allí sin nada que me distraiga de poder apreciar la tranquilidad el entorno. Por ahora lo reservo para pasar momentos a solas, desconectando de cualquier cosa que no sea disfrutar de la naturaleza.

However this time I didn't stop to rest, because this time I didn't want to go back home too late, but I went to see how high the river is, there is a lot of river flow these days and it is still impressive.
I was a little scared as I approached the shore because the ground under the leaves was wet and slightly yielding, the footing didn't sink too much but it felt a little unstable, luckily I decided to go out with boots that morning so I wasn't too worried.
The arrival of spring is wonderful, although in Zaragoza there are always some areas that seem to be in summer, even if it is cold. This land has the soul of a desert, I can't help but think about it when I see how the river bank looks, everything so dry that it seems unusual to turn around and find so much green contrasting with the beautiful sky that this day has given us.
The walk was being more than pleasant, just what I wanted. It was very windy as I feared, but the sun was strong and we were at 15 degrees, one thing balanced the other. I did a walk of about 12 kilometers and then took the bus back home, not because I was tired, but to save some time.
Sin embargo esta vez no me detuve a descansar, porque no quería regresar muy tarde a casa, pero me acerqué para ver lo alto y revuelto que está el río, hay mucha corriente estos días y no deja de ser impresionante.
Me asusté un poco al momento de acercarme a la orilla porque el terreno debajo de las hojas estaba húmedo y cedía un poco, no llegó a hundirse demasiado la pisada pero se sentía un poco inestable, por suerte decidí salir con botas esa mañana así que no estaba tan preocupada.
La llegada de la primavera es maravillosa, aunque en Zaragoza siempre hay alguna zona que parece que ya estuviésemos en verano, aunque haga frio. Esta tierra tiene alma de desierto, no puedo evitar pensarlo al ver cómo luce la orilla del río, todo tan seco que parece insólito voltear y encontrarte con tanto verde haciendo contraste junto a ese hermoso cielo que nos ha regalado este día.
El paseo estaba siendo más que agradable, justo lo que yo quería. Hacía mucho viento como temía, pero el sol era fuerte y estábamos a 15 grados, una cosa equilibraba a la otra. Hice un recorrido de unos 12 kilómetros caminando y luego tomé el bus para regresar a casa, no por cansancio, sino por ahorrar tiempo.

When I got home I was hungry, so I was very happy when I was welcomed with a toast of Serrano ham and goat cheese, something very simple depending on who sees it, very common here, but a luxury from my point of view, besides delicious.
A little one from home surprised me with several gifts that had all the appearance of being for playing together, which I loved of course, it is always a pleasure to spend time with those who love you and who are every day by your side.
Besides, my sister was waiting for me with incredible things. She prepared for lunch one of my favorite dishes, an eggplant pie that tasted exactly as I remembered it, I haven't eaten it for many years and she makes it spectacular. It is a dish that reminds us of home, delicious home cooking.
We accompanied it with a few local beers, the Ambar tostada that comes out very well now that we have fresh and radiant days.
But that wasn't the end of it, it was the beginning of the good part, because for dessert and to sing the birthday, he surprised me with a dessert that I didn't expect at all.

Cuando llegué a casa estaba hambrienta, por lo que me alegré mucho cuando fui recibida con una tostada de jamón serrano y queso de cabra, algo muy simple según quien lo vea, muy común aquí, pero todo un lujo desde mi punto de vista, además de deliciosa.
Un pequeñines de casa me sorprendió con varios regalitos que tenían toda la pinta de ser para jugar juntos, cosa que me encantó por supuesto, siempre es un placer compartir con quienes te quieren y que están cada sía a tu lado.
Además mi hermana me esperaba con cosas increíbles. Preparó para comer uno de mis platos favoritos, un pastel de berenjena que sabía exactamente como lo recordaba, hace muchos años no lo comía y ella lo hace espectacular. Es un plato que nos recuerda a casa, deliciosa comida hogareña.
Lo acompañamos con unas cervezas de la tierra, la Ambar tostada que cae muy bien ahora que tenemos días frescos y radiantes.
Pero ahí no terminada todo, mas bien comenzaba lo bueno, porque para el postre y cantar el cumpleaños me sorprendió con un postre que no me esperaba para nada.

As a good milennial I grew up as a Harry Potter fan. Even if as an adult one moderates their preferences, sometimes, it's impossible to feel excitement when you receive something that represents so much to you. I'm such a fan, it's impossible not to recognize this decoration just by spotting that strange color that decorates the cake.
I knew it instantly, a personalized version of the cake that Hagrid brought to Harry for his birthday when they met, that particular spelling and the simplicity of a cake that should be understood as ugly but that meant so much. I think it's a perfect time in my life to have received this gift. I loved it.
It was an elaboration commissioned to some artisan bakers. *Golosas más que tartas" is a store that makes cakes to order, although they have a space to sit and have a coffee with a slice of their delicious cakes. It's been years since I've been there, since the pandemic, but it's a place I've always liked.
The colorful decoration is made of buttercream, it is thankful that it is a very thin layer because the taste of this cream never seems to me completely pleasant, a lot of fat, but in its right measure it doesn't bother me.
The cake itself, inside, was very good. Chocolate filled with chocolate cream, with a medium sweetness and adequate fluffiness. It is a fairly high cake and when cut it remained firm, also the layers were quite well differentiated, something that is always interesting to test.
Como buena milennial crecí siendo fan de Harry Potter. Aunque uno de adulto modere sus gustos, a veces, es imposible sentir emoción cuando recibes algo que representa tanto para ti. Muy fan soy, imposible no reconocer esta decoración con solo avistar ese extraño color que decora la tarta.
Lo supe al momento, una versión personalizada de la torta que Hagrid le llevó a Harry por su cumpleaños cuando se conocieron, esa ortografía tan particular y la simplicidad de una torta que debía entenderse como fea pero que significaba muchísimo. Creo que es un momento perfecto de mi vida para haber recibido este regalo. Me encantó.
Fue una elaboración encargada a unas pasteleras artesanales. Golosas más que tartas es una tienda que se encarga de realizar pasteles por encargo, aunque disponen de un espacio para sentarse y tomarse un café con un trozo de sus deliciosas tartas. Hace años que no voy, desde la pandemia, pero es un lugar que siempre me ha gustado.
La colorida decoración es de crema de mantequilla, se agradece que sea una capa muy fina porque el sabor de esta crema nunca me termina de parecer del todo agradable, mucha grasa, pero en su justa medida no molesta.
La tarta en sí, por dentro, estaba muy buena. Chocolate rellena con crema de chocolate, con un dulzor medio y esponjosidad adecuada. Es una tarta bastante alta y al cortarla se mantuvo firma, además se diferenciaban bastante bien las capas, algo que siempre resulta interesante de comprobar.

A single cake is never enough to celebrate, I think that since I am a teenager I have never been satisfied with a single birthday cake, this may seem very spoiled and it is, but it seems to me that it is a day when I can allow it, I promise that most of the time I tend to be more conscious.
This second cake comes from a refined and famous Aragonese pastry shop, known for being the creators of a typical dessert called Pastel Ruso, which is not this one, they have locations not only in this region but also in Madrid and offer very high quality dessert.
In this case we ordered a Guayaquil Cake, the name it receives because it is made with cocoa from this area of Ecuador, one of the highest quality and best treated cocoas on the market.
With that premise, we had high expectations, because I really enjoy the cocoa of origin and the real taste of chocolate. The Guayaquil Cake delivers on everything it offers, starting with a super crunchy cocoa-covered chocolate coating, which makes way for several layers of filling inside, despite being a rather thin cake.
The base is a cocoa sponge cake, extremely good, which tastes a lot of cocoa, that made me fall in love, because there are cakes that disappoint, they only taste like sugar and this one was not like that. It is filled with pastry cream, which for some reason tasted slightly like marzipan, with very good flavor and surprisingly firm.
To conclude, the surprise was that between the rigid chocolate covering and the cake, there was a layer of truffle, which is chocolate whipped cream, which filled the spherical figures that decorate the cake. I thought it was an incredible touch, a well-structured and very beautiful elaboration.
Una sola tarta nunca es suficiente para celebrar, creo que desde que soy adolescente nunca me he conformado con un solo pastel de cumpleaños, esto puede parecer muy caprichoso y lo es, pero me parece que es un día en que me lo puedo permitir, prometo que la mayor parte del tiempo suelo ser más consciente.
Este segundo pastel proviene de una refinada y famosa pastelería aragonesa, conocidos por ser los creadores de un postre típico llamado Pastel Ruso, que no es este, tienen sedes no solo en esta región sino también en Madrid y ofrecen postre de muy alta calidad.
En este caso ordenamos una Tarta Guayaquil, nombre que recibe por ser elaborada a base de cacao proveniente de esta zona de Ecuador, uno de los cacaos con mas calidad y mejores tratados del mercado.
Con esa premisa, teníamos muchas expectativas, porque yo disfruto mucho del cacao de origen y del sabor real del chocolate. La Tarta Guayaquil cumple con todo lo que ofrece, empezando con una cobertura super crujiente de chocolate recubierta de cacao, que abre camino a varias capas de relleno en su interior, a pesar de ser una tarta bastante delgada.
La base es un bizcocho de cacao, extremadamente bueno, que sabe mucho a cacao, eso me enamoró, porque hay bizcochos que defraudan, solo saben a azúcar y este no era así. Está relleno de crema pastelera, que por algún motivo sabia ligeramente a mazapán, con muy buen sabor y sorprendentemente firme.
Para concluir, la sorpresa fue que entre la cobertura rígida de chocolate y el pastel, había una capa de trufa, que es nata montada de chocolate, que rellenaba las figuras esféricas que decoran el pastel. Me pareció un toque increíble, una elaboración bien estructurada y muy bonita.

In conclusion this was a wonderful way to give start to another year of life. I learned a while ago that the best way to celebrate is to take some time for yourself, to think about what you are feeling and trying to be just right in this moment.
Going for a walk earlier in the day made me feel much more upbeat, to think that things are still moving forward despite the good and the bad and that the only balance I should pursue is the one that makes me feel calm and lighter inside.
I am not one of those people who set goals and objectives every year, I have gone through moments of so much uncertainty throughout life, that I have decided to focus better on the present. That is what I want to focus on from now on, because for some reason, between routines and obligations, I forgot it for a while.
Writing this blog is Among those things to live in the now. This is my way of dedicating some time to express myself as I am and remember those experiences, maybe simple ones, that makeup everything I like to experience. This is a kind of diary, to share in the community of course, but, mainly, to remind me how I like to go through life.
En conclusión esta fue una maravillosa forma de dar inicio a una año más de vida. Hace un tiempo he aprendido que la mejor forma de celebrar es dedicarte un tiempo a ti mismo, para pensar en lo que estás sintiendo e intentando ser justo en este momento.
Haber salido a pasear a primera hora del día me hizo estar mucho más animada, pensar en que las cosas siguen avanzando a pesar de lo bueno y de lo malo y que el único equilibrio que debo perseguir, es el que haga que me sienta tranquila y ligera en mi interior.
No soy de las personas que se trazan metas y objetivos cada año, he pasado por momentos de tanta incertidumbre a lo largo de la vida, que he decidido concentrarme mejor en el presente. Eso es en lo que quiero enfocarme desde ahora, pues por algún motivo, entre rutinas y obligaciones, lo olvidé durante un periodo tiempo.
Entre esas cosas para vivir el momento, está escribir este blog. Esta es mi forma de dedicar un rato a expresarme tal como soy y recordar esas experiencias, tal vez simples, que conforman todo lo que me gusta experimentar. Esto es una especie de diario, para compartir en la comunidad claro, pero, sobre todo, para recordarme a mí misma cómo me gusta transitar por la vida.

Felicidades aunque lleguen con retraso. Me encanta ese lugar junto al río con los sauces, hazte ese favor de llevar un libro y sentarte allí un buen rato a leer. Las corrientes de agua no sé qué energía tienen que relajan y calman. El rumor continuo es como un bálsamo para el espíritu.
