Doing hammer curls has really been a game changer for me. In my new routine, I pair a barbell curl with hammer curls, and honestly, it has been a great experience so far with noticeable growth. Apart from preacher curls, Bayesian curls, and the rest, hammer curls have become one of my favourite additions to arm day. They’re a great thickness builder for your arms.
Here are a couple reasons why I think hammer curls are a must-add exercise:
They help build arm thickness by targeting the brachialis and brachioradialis muscles underneath and around the biceps, which gives your arms a fuller look.
Hammer curls also allow you to move significantly heavier weight since your forearms and grip are more involved. Yesterday, I used a 25kg dumbbell for the first time and managed about 5–8 reps, which honestly surprised me.
Finally, they’re a much more joint-friendly movement for me. I usually notice a slight pinch in my wrist whenever I do traditional underhand curls, but with hammer curls, my hands stay in a more natural position, so they feel far more comfortable.
So, if you haven’t already added hammer curls to your arm day routine, I definitely recommend giving them a try. And if you already do them, what’s your experience been like?
Till next time, God bless.
