Acknowledging Burnout
Experiencing burnout does not only apply to people who pursue creative stuff, but also to every human being in general. I don't know if it's just me, but from time to time, I really do feel drained and empty after a series of events happening in life.
I wrote a blog last week about my holiday recap which pretty sums up the roller-coaster ride I've been through these past few weeks. I also mentioned how I've been wanting to spend some time for myself away from obligations & responsibilities to somehow feel refreshed. Well, thankfully, this week, I had the chance to go on a short nature trip with my cousins.
Giving back my Nanny's kindness to our family
We went to Nueva Vizcaya, a destination that's 3 hours drive away from my home. Our original purpose for going there was to attend the Christening of my former nanny's child. She asked me if I could be one of the godparents of her child which I enthusiastically accepted. She took care of me and my siblings for almost 5 years when we were little and I thought of doing it as my way of expressing gratitude and at the same time, returning her kindness to our family.
When we reached their house after a long trip, we ate breakfast together first. Then we went out to do a photoshoot. It's my nanny's dream to have her son's photos be taken by me so I thought it would be nice to gift her with a free photoshoot. The sun was already high when we went out. It surprised me because they are living beside landscapes with amazing views. We only captured a few photos because her son was having tantrums due to the heat😅 But thankfully, we were able to get some nice shots of him.
After the mini photoshoot, we rested for a bit and had a catch up about life. We then went to the church for the baptism.
Reconnecting with Nature
On our way going back to the venue, me and my cousins decided to watch the sunset on a mountain located at the back of my nanny's house. Some of my nanny's cousins who were also the same age with us were our company during the hike. We took the muddy field of rice just to get there more quickly.
When we reached the peak, it was very refreshing. I realized that mother nature has always been God's way of reconnecting back to me and also recharging me every time I feel drained and lost.
You will notice in these pictures that my outfit is not appropriate for hiking 😂 Just a disclaimer that we just happened to attend a christening and I wanted to chase the sunset that's why I didn't have enough time to change my clothes 😂 I'll make sure to be more prepared the next time I go on a hike.
Ecstatic Feeling Afterwards
That was just a mini hike yet I felt ecstatic. How much more to the higher mountains that I'll be able to reach in the future? I'm a woman who loves to go on adventures. But due to the restrictions brought by this pandemic, I have no choice but to limit wandering outside. For the past few months, I felt caged. That's why this trip felt like a freeing moment for me.
When the sun has already set, we started going down and boy, I did not expect the trail to be so steep. I was a bit scared but at the same time, thrilled because it was fun! I also felt safe because I know that my cousins are behind me to help me whenever something goes wrong. Well, I didn't fall on our way down, but unfortunately, I slipped on a muddy canal when we were about to reach my nanny's house😅 My pants and feet were so slimy, it became harder for me to walk. But thankfully, my cousins helped me a lot😅
When we reached the house of my nanny, we took a rest and they were making fun of how clumsy I am 😆 Not too long after we had dinner, we already went home. But surprisingly, there was a long traffic that awaited us. A 10 wheeler truck has accidentally fallen in the middle of the road in the mountainside which is necessary for the entrance and exit of vehicles to our province. We were stranded for 6 hours before the road got cleared.
It's good that I brought with me lots of patience but as we were waiting, I was also able to reflect a lot about our trip.
- Although every climb is different, the feeling of reaching the peak is the same; satisfactory and joyful.
- You can have all the other things here on earth, but the mother nature gives you a different kind of happiness and satisfaction.
- When something happens along way that negatively affected you, know that you're not the only one going through that misfortune. Just be patient enough to wait for things to be okay again
